Article Title :: American Churches - Inspiring or Entertaining

Once while traveling rural Alabama some years past I decided to visit a local church for the mid-week Wednesday night service. I can't remember the name of the little town I was in but I will never forget that church and what happened there. It was a true experience but to this day I still think that what I found there is what church is all about. I almost stopped first at a larger church only a block from away from the little church I visited. The large brick church had a parking lot fairly full of cars and several people were going in as I drove by. I can't say what made me keep driving but only a block away was a little white church with two people sitting on the front steps. As I slowe  (read full article)

Winter is upon us, and believe it or not, now's the perfect time to get back into the swing of things at the gym. Waking up at 4am in the blistering cold, to train before work, may not be everyone's idea of the perfect workout. But it's the cold weather that makes going to gym in winter so much more appealing to some. Who in their right mind would give up an extra hour's sleep, covered with warm, fluffy duvets in return for blood, sweat and tears at the gym? The answer is simple, serious fitness fanatics. Winter gymming can be so much better, especially at this time, when preparing for upcoming competitions. There's hardly any waiting around for machines to become available and you can   (read full article)

Article Title :: Often Short Term Gain Equals Long Term Pain!

Can there really be a short-term gain? Which you trade off in the end and it gets you into long-term pain? I believe this statement is true and I'll show you in a way that I feel you will understand and feel my pain in this situation. Have you ever had a checking account and you wrote a ton of bad checks? I mean you have a week before they all clear and you can write as many as you want but this short term gain does really in all reality screws you in the end. Not only do you have to pay the money out, you pay a $30 returned check fee on top of all that and if you can't pay it off, you will then be turned into collections and then the phones will be ringing off the hook. Now do you s  (read full article)

Article Title :: How to Tell If Your Child Is Depressed

Depression among children is a serious problem. Many children suffer from undiagnosed depression. With adults, depression symptoms tend to be straightforward and easily detected. Some children may have such obvious symptoms as constant sadness, lack of energy, lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities, inability to concentrate (not related to ADHD), being either unable to sleep, or sleeping too much, lack of appetite or overeating. Other children's symptoms may be very different. A child suffering from depression can be defiant, angry, aggressive, anxious, or withdrawn. She may have nightmares, be afraid to be away from her parents or withdraw from them, not want to go to sc  (read full article)

Article Title :: Fear Of Public Speaking

Social Phobia is an irrational anxiety brought forth by exposure to certain social situations, leading to avoidance behaviour. Specific Phobia is a persistent and irrational fear in response to some specific stimulus, which commonly results in avoidance of/withdrawal from that stimulus. It could be triggered by an insect or animal (zoophobia), by a situation like being trapped in an enclosed space (claustrophobia) or it could be a fear of disease (pathophobia). Though it feels real, the fear of public speaking or Glossophobia is what psychologists call "social construction". This means that it is not a natural phenomenon, but the result of something society has created. We expect it to ca  (read full article)

Article Title :: How to Optimize Accessibility and Mobility in Your Home

How to Optimize Accessibility and Mobility in Your Home 1. When assistive devices are being used in the home there is sometimes a problem with doorways being too narrow. Some hardware stores have hinges that allow the door to open and drop back in line with the frame and provide an extra few inches for access. 2. Remove the trim around the inside edge of the door from the floor to the midway point of the frame. This will add an extra half inch to the door way and may be enough to allow a wheelchair or walker to pass through. 3. Remove the standard door and install a bypass door on overhead track. 4. Mount an adjustable mirror above the stove if you are in a wheelchair so you can see i  (read full article)

Article Title :: I Want To Rock!

What do I mean I want rock? I must be showing my age, it was a heavy mental band from the eighties, Twisted Sister. Does this mean I think we all should bang are heads? I don't think so. Now if we aren't to bang our heads what are we supposed to do? Have you ever said to yourself, if I knew now what I didn't know then, I would go back in a heartbeat? I believe that most people in there thirties would normally say this, let's take a closer look at this statement. Would you really go back in life if you were to be sixteen again? I mean all the new drugs, ecstasy and the like, cigarette companies trying to get you hooked by going after the 14 to 16 year olds, because if they can they know th  (read full article)

Article Title :: Glossery of Syptoms and Mental Illness Affecting Teenagers

Being a teenager is not easy. Adolescents feel all kinds of pressures -- to do well in school, to be popular with peers, to gain the approval of parents, to make the team, to be cool. In addition, many teenagers have other special problems. For example, they may worry about a parent being out of work or the family's financial problems. Adolescents may be hurt or confused by their parents' divorce, or they may have to learn how to live with a parent's alcoholism or mental illness. Despite these pressures, it is important to remember that most teenagers develop into healthy adults. Unfortunately, some teenagers develop serious emotional problems requiring professional help. So your sister was awarded a full ride to her first choice school with the intent to double major in bio-molecular chemistry and electro-physics and your brother (who was actually getting paid to go to school) just finished his last football season. Cursing your parents for giving away all the really good genes before you had a chance to nab your fair share isn't going to help but with a little creativity, you too can find a way to put yourself through college. Aside from the traditional scholarships offered to those who are blessed with the diligence to live life with their faces in books, or the grace and athleticism of a gazelle, there is also a plethora of scholarships for those of us w  (read full article)
