 Article Title :: Is it Goal Planning or Goal Tending?
At any given moment, you may find yourself caught off guard leading to losing the game, missing the playoffs, or never seeing the opportunity staring you right in the face. This was my life growing up. Always being prepared for action and in a constant state of ready to block, catch, deflect, run, punt or defend my team’s lifeline, the goal. In short, I was a goalie in soccer.Recently I was watching a soccer game on TV and my instincts instantly transported me back 20 years to when I was a goalie, a goaltender. Goal Tending is very active; you are on the field playing, accessing, looking, anticipating and predicting what will happen. Some times, you never touch the ball; yet oth  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Fun & Easy Ways to Help Your Family Set Goals For the New Year
Here’s something for January besides the usual diet promises. The start of the calendar year is a wonderful time to celebrate life and new beginnings. It is no wonder so many of us choose this time to set goals for ourselves. Most of us define goals as objectives that are within our control to obtain. Wishes, on the other hand, are our hopes and our dreams. It might seem impractical, but we still throw pennies into fountains and long for our wishes to come true. Here, we offer a different take on the standard New Year’s resolutions. Introduce your family to goal setting in a fun, child-friendly way.Begin at dinner by discussing your own wishes and asking other family members to  (read full article)

 Article Title :: The Power of Clarity
Bunker Hunt, a man who rose from a bankrupt cotton farmer in the 1930s to a multi-billionaire when he died in the 1970s, was once asked during a TV interview what advice he could give to others who wanted to be financially successful. He responded by saying that it's not terribly difficult to be successful and that only two things are required. First, you must decide exactly what it is you want to accomplish. Most people never do that in their entire lives. And secondly, you must determine what price you'll have to pay to get it, and then resolve to pay that price.Clear Goals Are EssentialStudy after study has shown how essential clear goals and objectives are to the success  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Cultivating Burning Desire
When asked during an interview how he managed to reach the top as a professional bodybuilder and Hollywood actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger replied with a single word, "Drive!" All great success ultimately begins with an idea, but what makes ideas become reality is the fuel of human desire. An idea by itself can give you a temporary feeling of inspiration, but burning desire is what gets you through all the perspiration necessary to overcome the inevitable obstacles along the way.Take a moment to think about the goals you've set for yourself. (You have set goals, haven't you? If not, go read the article on setting clear goals.) How committed are you to achieving these goals? Under what  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Setting Posteriorities
You’re probably familiar with the idea of setting priorities. You look at your list of goals or projects or tasks and sort them in order of most important to least important. Then you focus your attention on the most important ones before you tackle the less important ones. Nothing too surprising there...But let’s say you have a new priority come into your life, and it’s one that requires a nontrivial time investment. Maybe you want to start an exercise program, and you want to devote a few hours a week to it. You don’t feel like you have any free time where you can just insert your exercise routine. The whole idea of free time is a bit silly anyway. You’re always using t  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals
Should we or should we not set big, hairy, audacious goals where success is far from certain (at least without the benefit of hindsight)?I for one am grateful for the existence of people who set big goals. My country (the USA) would not exist otherwise. Nor would my city, my family, our computers, the Internet, my breakfast, this Thanksgiving holiday, or the various freedoms I enjoy today. A number of people close to me would be dead if not for the existence and drive of “unrealistic” goal setters. If you have a Hitler setting big goals and you don’t have an equally strong goal-setter like Winston Churchill on your side, well, … there won’t be much quo left in your   (read full article)

 Article Title :: Environmental Reinforcement of Your Goals
Daily affirmations are something you’ll commonly see recommended in pop-psychology books. Each day you verbally affirm your goals as if they’re already accomplished. However, you usually won’t get any results at all with this approach — in most cases it’s an utter waste of time. Why is this? Because every thought is an affirmation. If you spend 5 minutes a day saying to yourself, “I am a nonsmoker,” but 100 other minutes include thoughts that re-affirm your identity as a smoker, such as periodically lighting up and seeing the smoke rise in front of your face, you just won’t make a dent. The basic idea of trying to condition yourself to think in new ways is soun  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Making a Quantum Leap
Since 1992, I’ve been pursuing personal growth with a passion. I’ve attended seminars, listened to audio programs, and read hundreds of books in this field. I’ve easily spent many thousands of dollars and invested thousands of hours on such pursuits. And one thing I can tell you from all of this effort is that personal growth is very, very hard. Many books, audio programs, and self-help gurus promote the quick fix mentality. Read this book and all your time management problems will vanish. Attend this seminar and you’ll be the next self-made millionaire. This kind of marketing is unfortunate because most people who buy these products will achieve only modest results with the  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Your Personal Accountability System
A difficult challenge in achieving goals is simply remaining aware of them and staying on track. How many times have you set a goal, started working on it with the best of intentions, and then at some future time, you realize it somehow slipped through the cracks?External influences exert forces to knock us off track. And if you have a busy life, these influences can come many times each day. Phone calls. Emails. Postal mail. A new memo. A drop-in visitor. New items to add to your to do list. New things to think about. But most are just distractions from what’s really important. We therefore must exert a countering force to get back on track, pointing ourselves back towards  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Your Goal Scoreboard
One goal-achievement tool I just started using is a scoreboard. It’s very easy to create and maintain. You make a page to score your progress towards all your measurable goals for the year. A scoreboard is nothing more than a table with 3 columns. The first column is a list of your goals. The second column is where you are now, your current reality for each goal. And the third column is where you want to be at the end of the year for each goal. The specific time frame is arbitrary. Fill out the scoreboard for all your measurable goals, and then put it somewhere where you’ll look at it every day. Update it weekly. Some of the things I measure are my weight, body fat %, web site v  (read full article)
