Article Title :: How To Set Goals

How to set goals? First of all, don't confuse wishes or desires with goals. Often, people want things, situations or accomplishments, and call these goals. Then they're disappointed when they don't get them. Just naming your desires isn't effective goal setting. Good goals have some or all of the following:1. Good goals are specific. A goal like, "I want to be healthy" is too general. "I want to lose weight and walk three times a week," is better.2. They're realistic. Unfortunately, even if it is possible that you could become an astronaut, if you're already 55, you better try to become a pilot for now. Unrealistic goals set you up for failure.3. They're written down. (read full article)

Article Title :: Are You Ready To Make 2006 Your Best Year Ever?

| I was thinking about my New Year’s resolution today. Out of curiosity I decided to do a little research to see just how many resolutions are actually kept.I found that 50% of resolutions are broken within the first two weeks. I went on to discover that by the end of January a full 95% of resolutions are abandoned.Only 5% of New Years resolutions are kept beyond January. This caught my attention. I looked a little harder for the reason so many resolutions fail within such a short amount of time. I found that the majority of resolutions fail due to:1. Procrastination
2. Lack of discipline
3. No game plan
4. Doing it aloneIn summary, I conc (read full article) |

Article Title :: What do You Want to Accomplish in 2006?

Around this time of the year I love to ask people what their New Years resolutions are. Usually, the response I receive is that resolutions do not work so there's no point in making them. There is a reason why New Years resolutions rarely work. Call it a matter of linguistics. Notice, people want the resolution to work. For a resolution to become a reality, it is the person who must work, not the resolution.Stating your resolution is just the starting point. Like any goal, the path to success is to define or visualize it, plan it and act on it. Defining the goal is part of the commitment to the goal. It is amazing how many people never take the time to write down exactl (read full article)

Article Title :: How To Achieve Goals - Life Lessons From Football - David Kills Goliath In The English FA Cup

I hope you like sports of some kind. If you don't, the following account is still worth reading as it applies as much to life as to football.Literal 'goals' are scored regularly in the game of football or soccer. A team of eleven people have one goal - to score a goal - to put a round ball in the back of the opposing team's net.The game is thus a realistic metaphor for the game of life. It can teach many lessons about how to achieve our own 'goals'.Every year in the UK, one of the greatest football competitions in the world takes place. It is called the Football Association Cup - the FA Cup.It allows the less talented teams including some amateur teams to compe (read full article)

Article Title :: Do You Love What You Do?

| If you love what you do, then it is no longer work. The money you earn is secondary when you love your work. Money can never buy happiness, or peace of mind.Those who continue to work at a job they hate for the money alone are more likely to be stressed, and very unhappy. They live for their vacations and weekends. Unfortunately, they are sadly missing out on the happiness of everyday life. It is better to receive less money and be happy with what you are doing, than to receive lots of money and hate what you are doing."Profit is a by-product of work;
happiness is its chief product."
Henry FordWhen you love your work, you look forward to e (read full article) |

Article Title :: You Gotta Have Goals!

I’ve always found it interesting that a ship cannot be steered unless it is moving at a certain minimum speed. Those who navigate everything from small to massive ships call this “steerage.” Steerage is the exact point at which choosing a ship’s direction becomes possible. Of course a ships’ pilot also has charts, other publications, and a variety of tools to help him know in great detail where the ship should go. As people, goals are what give momentum and motion to our movements, goals are how we know where to go, how far we have been, and how far we have yet to travel. Goals are the human equivalent of the navigators charts, and tools.Where do we get our goals ? The be (read full article)

Article Title :: Rethinking Resolutions: Ways To Make Changes And Bring More Balance To Your Life

It seems natural to use the turning of the year to take stock of life – to consider what could be different in the coming year. Many of us make resolutions that focus on something that is “wrong” with us. This resolution-making is also loaded with guilt, because if you don’t achieve what you set out to do, you can feel a sense of failure. As we sit at this transitional point, I want to offer you a different approach to making your resolutions.Instead of simply focusing on one “problem” you want to fix, what would happen if you could look at your life in a holistic manner? What changes would seem most important if you evaluated with an eye toward increasing balance (read full article)

Article Title :: Goals for Growth

When I started my business career, I started in sales and marketing. I found that after trying to teach school and coach baseball, I was a good teacher and a great baseball coach. But I could not stand dealing with the parents. I loved working with the kids. The one thing I was always able to do was sell people on my ideas. It was either belief or sales ability or a combination of both, but I always got my ideas accepted.I then figured sales was my avenue to success. Actually, I was right. I have been a top producer for a yellow page company, an advertising company and the top annuity producer for an insurance company. I have taught people to be better sales people and make more mo (read full article)
