Article Title :: I'd Rather Be A Guide Than A Coach
A tremendous amount of discussion, books and articles has been devoted to coaching others, not just in sports but also in the business world. Coaching has become a buzzword. Rather than supervising, managing, training, counseling or mentoring subordinates you have become a coach. It is interesting that as our society becomes less personalized and more technical our language is being modified to lessen the impact of words. Supervisor, manager, leader and mentor now become coach. Are we really evolving into a more participative style of leadership or simply becoming politically correct to soften authoritative words? I am not sure, but I know I don't like it. My issue with being a coac  (read full article)

Article Title :: 7 Reasons Why It Is Important To Have Goals
I recently had a conversation with one of my former students. She has been out of school for a few years now but isn't satisfied with the direction her career has taken. In fact, she's not too happy with her personal life either. Her voice developed more than a touch of whine as she said: "I don't know what to do." So I asked her about her goals. Her response was a rather slack-jawed look of surprise. "Goals?" Well at least she wasn't whining anymore. I asked her what she would like to see her career in a few years. I asked her where she'd like to see her life in a few years. She knew the answers to those questions and quickly became animated as she discussed her de  (read full article)

Article Title :: Goal Setting Basics
Goal setting is the base of every successful planning and execution, during the last years Goal setting theories and techniques has evolved significantly, mainly because of the internet businesses that changed the traditional concepts of work. The basics of goal setting should be practiced and maintained to ensure a successful completion of these goals, a person needs to adopt a particular technique for his or her own goal setting.  Article Title :: Like Sands Through the Hourglass
Steve Pavlina presented an excellent article called "Go for a Presence Walk" on his blog that reminded me of an illustration about living in the present moment.Instead of having you close your eyes (since you can't read with your eyes closed), I've added a picture of an hourglass. Imagine that the top half of the hourglass represents the Future, the Middle represents the Present, and the bottom represents the Past. The middle of the hourglass narrows to allow just a few grains of sand to pass through at any given moment. The same is true with our lives. We convert the future to the past through the decisions that we make right now. In fact, only the decisions made in the pres  (read full article)

Article Title :: Tackle Big Projects with Action-Item Lists
I know what I need to do; why do I need to write it down? You may have fallen into the trap of thinking this way. And hey, if it works for you, that’s great!I find, however, that many people with too much to do, or with large projects looming in front of them get into a state of complete overload because they haven’t prepared themselves by keeping very simple action-item lists. What’s an Action-Item List? There are many kinds of lists, and each is useful in its own way. A list can range from “100 things I want to do before I die” to a list of reasons that you want to stay in your current career (hopefully you have 100 reasons for that, also.)He  (read full article)

Article Title :: Retire in Costa Rica
People choose to retire outside of their native country for a variety of reasons. Some people choose to retire abroad in order to bask in a preferred climate. Some people crave a shift in their pace of life, and some retire abroad for a change of scenery-be it the mountains or a beach. For a large number of retirees, the primary consideration for retiring abroad is their finances. The reality of rising inflation and a falling income come retirement age encourages a search for affordable living, beyond borders, in retirement.Over the last 45 years, inflation in the U.S. has averaged about 4.5% annually. If you currently earn $50,000.00 per year, you will need to earn $52,25  (read full article)

Article Title :: Single Daily Action
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? It is one of the most common questions relating to goal setting. You will find this question on a countless number of surveys and questionnaires, presented to all age groups and to people from all walks of life. Sometimes so much focus is placed on setting long term goals that the path leading to those goals becomes muddled and overwhelming. The tool you need to get past these obstacles is a simple one: Single Daily Action. So what are Sing  (read full article)

Article Title :: Creating a Life List
Last year I appeared in a Broadway musical. I was not a major character, but it was a major event. For three years I had had on my Life List "See a Broadway show." And now there I was, sitting up on stage waiting for my turn as a contestant in a musical spelling bee. I lost after the second round, but I didn't lose at all. I got to check off two items from my Life List--the one about seeing a Broadway show, and also "Do something truly gutsy at least twice a year."Creating a Life List gives us vision and direction. We may have a vague notion about what it is we want to do, see, and experience in our lifetimes, but writing those things down is often the first and most importa  (read full article)

Article Title :: Be a Juggernaut of Goal Achievement
Setting goals is one of the most important keys to achieving success. Did you know that less than 3% of people have written goals? Studies have shown that the most successful people are the ones who have specific, written goals.Setting a goal is not like a New Year’s resolution. That is just a wish. Just wishing and hoping for something isn’t going to make it happen. Setting a goal is having a target to shoot for and a plan to get there. When planning your goals, choose which categories you would like for your goals. Establish the time frame. They could be lifetime goals, 10 year, 5 year, 1 year, 6 month, 3 month, 1 month or weekly goals. Also you can have ongoing goals,   (read full article)
