Article Title :: Reading A Green

Reading a green or more accurately reading your putt.Putting is the smallest and the biggest part of golf. How can that be? A one inch putt counts the same as a 300 yard drive. On the other hand, if you hit all the greens in regulation and two putt every green, what percentage of your shots will be taken on a green? You're right, 50%.Thus it is both the biggest and the smallest part of golf. Our egos yell that we must hit the drive long, really long. And without doubt, there is some satisfaction in hitting a long drive and some advantage. And how many drives do you hit during a round of golf? Right, only about 14.I don't want to dwell on the mechanics of (read full article)

Article Title :: Ready, Set, Go!

“Get Ready, Get Set, Go!”I remember hearing these words somewhere in my youth. Have you ever heard these words? I don’t remember exactly where or why I have heard them but today they are going to apply to your golf game. It seems like a “golf” set of words to me so we are going to use them for your lesson today.“Get ready.” There are several get ready’s. First is the get ready to develop your golf swing. Next is to learn the shots you need to play good golf any where. The next get ready is when you get to the course and warm up for the round. And of course you need to get ready for the shot you are faced with.Get Ready #1, Develop your swing: Notice (read full article)

Article Title :: Right Leg & Knee

This article discusses the fifth Concept Golf swing principle. The five swing principles define the golf swing and help you to understand the swing. They are not five more things you are to do. They are not five more things to add to your list of swing musts. Understand them and then simply go play golf.Watch the players on the Champions (Senior) Tour. Their swings are unique. Their swings are homemade. That’s why those players are still able to play so well. They didn’t try to follow some guy’s ideas of exactly how they should swing. Their focus was always on getting the ball to the target and scoring low. Their swings are identifiable. You know what Arnold’s swing looks (read full article)

Article Title :: Sand Shots

One of the short game shots you need to know how to hit with some skill is an explosion shot from a green side bunker. This is an easy shot because there is a margin of error that does not exist with shots from ground. You will need to hit the sand 2 inches behind the ball, but if you hit 3 or 4 inches behind the ball you will still move the ball and, probably, out of the bunker.Sand shots are not the most important shots in your bag because they happen infrequently. Further, as you improve your skills with the Concept Golf principles, sand shots will automatically improve as well. We'll cover two shots: the explosion from the green-side bunker and the long shot from a fairway bun (read full article)

Article Title :: Start with Goals

Spring is just around the corner – for those who didn’t winter in Florida. That means that golf is on your mind and getting ready for the season is on your list and on your mind. Let’s talk about getting ready after a few months of non-golf.First, DO NOT go to the nearest range and hit the largest bucket of balls in captivity. That would be a no-no.If you have been following the Concept Golf routine and practice swinging in your living room or your front yard every day you are close to being ready right now. The only thing I would suggest is that you start walking each day. No need to walk fast or far. In the beginning, just walk a bit and then walk back to your start (read full article)

Article Title :: The Swing Will Become Automatic

I want to share my answer to a frustrated golfer. Skip has been a friend for many years. He knows about Concept Golf but has had little time to absorb the principles. What Skip is saying here is that he keeps hitting behind the ball, and by his assessment, it is because he is getting ahead of the ball during the backswing. He transfers all his weight to his back foot but then leans over to his front foot before his through-swing begins. At the top of his backswing his weight is on his front foot instead of his back foot. This forces his arms to make up for the lack of power that is available from his legs. Fat, short, crooked shots are the result. My response follows his lette (read full article)

Article Title :: The Five Concept Golf Swing Principles

The discovery of the five swing principles is a real breakthrough for golfers. They not only define the golf swing and the athletic motion used by all ground based sports, but make all the positive effects every golfer wants in their swing to happen automatically.I want to talk about how the Concept Golf swing principles create the swing positions that make high quality shot-making common place rather than an accident. It occurs to me that I know and understand the connection between the principles and the positions that cause excellent, consistent shot-making but that it may not be so obvious to many golfers.Today I am connecting the dots between one of those important posi (read full article)

Article Title :: The Chip Shot

I learned this shot from one of the best, Ray Floyd. He spent about three hours with me one afternoon in Hartford, CT teaching me how to hit those little shots from just off the green. It’s an important shot to have in your arsenal. What’s really fun is when you start holing out from off the edge of the green. In some ways it’s easier than putting. You will make some of these shots to the unhappiness of your opponent – but to your great joy. It’s the shots on and around the green that get your scores low and keep them there. You will have a lot of fun learning this shot because you will get very good at it very quickly. This is the shot from the short grass from just off (read full article)

Article Title :: The Golf Balls Are The Important Things

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar........ and the beer.A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.The profess (read full article)

Article Title :: The Golf Swing Is A Puzzle

The golf swing has been a mystery for decades. It’s a puzzle for most.In the beginning the golf swing was simple and very personal. It was the goal that was important; the score. Eventually, adults came to the conclusion (bad mistake) that golf swing instruction would be the answer to better shots and better golf. Welcome swing teachers and everyone that has ever thought about holding a golf club. With the advent of high speed photography, split screen video images and all the techy stuff available to the swing teachers today, the golf swing has been divided into millions of positions and components. And now the swing is even more of a mystery. My evolution was no dif (read full article)
