Article Title :: How Did Nintendo Lose In The Console Wars?
While the console wars will continue on, Nintendo was once king of the mighty mountain of anything considered video games (home or portable - even though Nintendo will finally be challenged on the latter with Sony's PSP in 2005). But, Nintendo has gone from #1 in market share, down to #3. Nintendo now lives by these words: be careful of whom you tick off, because one day they may be your competitor. You will understand why by the end of this article. Back in the days of the NES, Sega's Master System could not even put up a fight against Nintendo's original 8-bit behemoth that sold over 60 million units. Then, the Super NES (SNES) was released, but was not dominant early on. Sega released t  (read full article)

Article Title :: Test-flying for fun - RC planes and helicopters
Contrary to popular belief, people who work in model shops don’t spend all day every day playing with their own models!!! However, on Friday afternoon Dale and myself decided we were actually going flying. We closed the shop dead on 6 o'clock (usually we don’t leave till gone 7). We were cashed up, loaded up and were off to our own secret flying site in Kent by 6.30. We arrived at the flying field around 6.45, all models still intact after a mad dash along the A2 in Kent and some rather bendy country lanes. First out of the cars were a pair of Weston Cougars, one of my favourite planks (sorry for the term plank but I class myself as a heli flyer). Once started and both airborne the  (read full article)

It’s hard to find sometimes but it’s making a resurgence, black and white film. If you’ve never used this film now is the time to try it out. Here are some tips to using b&w film and what you can expect from the results. 1. Forget color. This is the hardest thing to do and the number one reason that you will not get good results with b&w film. 2. Look for contrast. Once you can ignore color look for contrast. You will want your image to have a bit more contrast than you would normally want in a color image. 3. Consider shooting situations that are more formal. Black and white film gives such a wonderful timelessness to an image and it’s perfect for formal situations. 4. Keep your p  (read full article)

Article Title :: The Beauty and Elegance of Cross-Stitch Portraits
Wall hangings are what make most homes decorative and attractive. And most of the time, the wall hangings we see are the portraits of the most memorable moments of our lives. Family pictures, graduation pictures and baby's first birthday pictures hang on the most prominent wall of the home to remind us of the momentous events of our lives. Other times, the cutest pet, my "bestest" friend, and the prettiest dream house occupy the bare wall in the bedroom. There are also times, as a tribute to the favorite painter, his oil painting occupy the biggest space on the wall.  Article Title :: Victorian Ceramic Fairings
If you visited the fair during the mid 19th century until the early 20th century you would have probably come home the proud owner of a little ceramic figure now referred to as a 'Victorian Fairing'. They were originally given away to the working classes as prizes at fair and were mostly about 3.5" long and about 2.5" deep and 3" tall, mounted on a rectangular base.  Article Title :: What Is The Best Video Game System?
Certainly the Playstation One has had a number of game hits and sold millions of units with tough competition from both Sega (Dreamcast) and Nintendo (N64), but no game system has enjoyed more exclusive game titles and more old-school gameplay than the Super Nintendo. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) did not dominate the hardware sales charts (selling over 49 million units) like Nintendo was able to accomplish with the original NES console (over 60 million units sold) due to increased competition from the Sega Genesis, but the sheer number of quality games for the SNES was outstanding for a system that contained over 700 games in its game library. Now these cool, killer ga  (read full article)

Article Title :: The Allure Of Solvents and Chip Shops
I was five when I saw this older kid racing stock cars. Admittedly, he was playing Stock Car Star and it was a Pocketeer ™ game. There were none of the graphics you get with PS2, granted. But that probably has something to do with there having been none, just a magnet inside a little hand held game forcing four pieces of plastic round a course. It was revolutionary. This goes some way to describing the collective playground orgasm that shuddered across the land by the end of the seventies when magnets were replaced by batteries and LCD displays, allowing collective prepubescence to stop an alien invasion. It was Christmas 1981 when I got one of these games. Grandstand, a foreign compan  (read full article)
