| Article Title :: Favorite Hobbies - Watching Television |
| |
|
For many Americans, their favorite hobby is watching television.
This may not sound like a hobby to some people, but it is. The
definition of a hobby is to do some leisure or recreational
activity outside of one's career. Watching television is
probably the most common hobby there is. With the amount of
hours that people spend watching television each day, and it is
climbing, television watching easily becomes one of the most
popular activities for among Americans. I would not say that it
is a constructive one, but it is a popular one. What else do
people spend their time doing more? They work for eight hours a
day, and then the average person watches TV for five to eight
hours a day. Nobod (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Favorite Hobbies: Reading |
| |
|
Reading is one of the most constructive hobbies a person can
have. The difference between ignorance and knowledge is only a
book away. Reading stimulates your mind. It makes you think. You
can learn to do many other hobbies by reading. It will generate
in you new ideas and a more sound of understanding of the world
and those around you. All great men and women have had a love of
reading and a passion for learning.
Reading can be a relaxing hobby as well. It is
something you can just sit around in your house and do. You can
go to the park and read. You can go up into the mountains or out
in field to read alone if you would like. You can get completely
lost in reading and forget where you a (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Caring For Your Diabetic Cat |
| |
|
It all started about two years ago, just after Christmas. We had
put out three cats - Pansy, Bonnie and Clyde into a cattery for
a few days while we went off for Christmas, not something we do
often, but it was a bit of a treat.
Upon our return, we noticed Bonnie, who was then twelve
years-old was looking a bit thin, but we put it down to her
pining for us, and not having her usual eating opportunites.
However, over the next few days, Bonnie's weight plummeted, and
she was looking very sorry for herself. When she started wetting
herself, a thing no self-respecting cat would ever knowingly do,
we immediately took her to the vet.
After a day of tests, the results came back, and we found ou (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Batman Begins and the Mighty Fantastic Four. Who's Your
Favorite? |
| |
|
Well, it looks like Hollywood keeps it continual pot of revenue
filled with, guess what, comic book heroes. Batman Begins and
The Fantastic Four have been duking it out on Hollywood and
Vine. An age-old comic book company rivalry is yet renewing the
heat this year. I guess all of us comic book aficionados always
wonder who would win the battle between such and such
superheroes.
Well at least in the next few months one way to keep score is to
watch the revenues generated between the recently released
"Batman Begins" and "Fantastic Four", which were both childhood
fascinations of mine. Not only are there superhero "what ifs"
going on here, but which comic book company will stand to gain

| Article Title :: Shih Tzu Have A Difficult Start After The Imperial Palace Falls |
| |
|
After the fall of the Imperial Palace breeding continued outside
the palace in the homes of both the Chinese and foreign
families. Kennels were developed that produced the Tibetan Lion
Dogs, or the Lhasa Lion Dogs, as they were sometimes called.
There was a lot of confusion during this time period trying to
distinguish between the Tibetan breeds and there was no central
registration system until the 1930s. The Apso and Shih Tzu types
were grouped under several different names: The Tibetan Poodle,
Shih Tzu Kuo (Lion Dog), Lhasa Lion Dog, Tibetan Temple Dog,
Tibetan Holy Dog, Tibetan Holy Dog, Lhasa Terrier, Tribute Dog,
Apso....
The China Kennel Club was formed in Shanghai in 1923. In 1930

| Article Title :: Is My Female Shih Tzu Pregnant? |
| |
|
The earliest sign of pregnancy in a Shih Tzu is often behavioral
changes. She may demand extra attention or she may become
depressed, lethargic and withdrawn. In these cases, try to give
her as much emotional support as possible to help her retain the
pregnancy. Gestation last about 63 days.
Other changes you may observe might be in the way she walks or
carries herself. She may appear to move differently once bred.
Her appetite can change rapidly, sometimes within a few hours of
breeding and conceiving. She can show either an increase or a
decrease in appetite as signs of pregnancy. She may even
suddenly become very picky about what she eats.
The vet can perform a variety of tests to dete (read full article) |

| Article Title :: The Last Shih Tzu To Leave Peking |
| |
|
The Japanese occupation of Peking in late 1937 stopped future
dog shows. Breeding in Peking continued on a limited scale.
There were a few accounts of Shih Tzu in Asia during this period
of time.
Mrs. Audrey Fowler of England was a great lover of the Shih Tzu
and tried diligently to acquire breeding stock without much
success. Her interest in the little dogs began in 1935. Mrs.
Fowler made many trips to various sections of cities of Hong
Kong and Shanghai looking for the golden long-haired dogs. Mrs.
Fowler was acqauinted with a man named Dr. Vincent Nesfield who
did acquire a gold and white Shih Tzu back in 1904.
In 1904, Dr. Vincent Nesfield, a medical officer in the

| |
|
Two women in China, one Irish and one English were both
extremely fascinated with the Shih Tzu and highly determined to
take the little dogs to England. Miss Hutchins from Ireland and
Mrs. Brownrigg from England found this was not an easy task to
accomplish. Breeding in the Imperial Palace had stopped many
years ago, although people outside the palace were still
breeding, they were still very possessive of the little dogs and
did not want them to leave the country. Miss Hutchens obtained a
dog she called Lung Fu Ssu and weighed 14 lbs. Many people in
China were still breeding this kind of dog (sounds like this was
some of the dogs that might have been sent out from the palace).

| Article Title :: Creating A Breeding/Shih Tzu |
| |
|
Natural breedings don't always occur. Timing is critical. Even
when you think the time is right, the female may refuse to stand
for the male or the male may not be interested in the female.
If nature proceeds normally, the female's vulva will enlarge and
soften as the time nears to breed. She may begin to tease or
"flag" the male that the time is right and the time is now or
never....The male and female will engage in a period of play and
foreplay. The male will attempt to mount the female within
minutes of this foreplay. If the female is ready, she will whip
her tail aside, presenting her rear to the male, and stand
steady awaiting the male to penetrate her. This is an assertive

| Article Title :: Shih Tzu History and Legends/Cross Breeding with Pekingese and
Lhasa Terrier/Shih Tzu Management |
| |
|
There has been a strong opinion in shih tzu history that the
Tibetan Lion Dog is the result of a cross between the Lhasa
Terrier and the Pekingese, which occurred out of the mixing of
the two breeds in Tibet and China.
The dogs of each country had been taken to the other from time
to time by tribute envoys and officials. The cross in Tibet,
that had been taken out of that country by way of India, has
been called the Apso, while the cross in Peking has been called
the Tibetan Poodle or Lion Dog. The Tibetan cross probably had
more of the Lhassa Terrier in it, while the Chinese cross has
more of the Pekingese.
