| Article Title :: Copyrights, Patents & Trademarks for Selling at Craft Shows |
| |
|
Copyrights, are common concerns for craftspeople. If you've
invented a unique product, you will more than likely want to
protect it from others who can create knock-offs of your craft
show gem at cheaper prices. Although it may be flattering to
have created a craft item others want to duplicate, it can also
be a nightmare to see your distinctive creation on the Home
Shopping Network! The United States Patent and Trademark
Organization Web site (www.uspto.gov) is a good place to learn
the differences between trademarks and patents and to learn what
is best for your situation. For more information and to apply
for a copyright go to www.copyright.gov.
Although attorneys may be costly, some of (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Inexpensive Christmas Gifts |
| |
|
Christmas is a time of joy, piece, and giving. It is also a time
of being broke. Adults often think that the idea of making
Christmas gifts is only for children who do not yet have their
own money to buy gifts. However, with a little bit of ingenuity,
some clever shopping, and a fair amount of free time, you can
make some very grown up do it yourself Christmas gifts.
The first step is to spend an afternoon at a craft store, and
see what sticks out at you as things you would be comfortable
sitting down to work on. Some very basic, but very nice final
product ideas include:
(1) Knit caps. If you have time to pick up crocheting or
knitting, Christmas is a perfect time of year to put that tal (read full article) |

| Article Title :: How to Create Your Reputation as an Artist |
| |
|
Creating Your Reputation!
Make your name a household name! Easier said than done. But
that's what will create the "sought after" effect. Now, there
are a few steps that you can get started to do this.
1. Attend lots of art shows that you can exhibit your work at.
Give out sample postcards of your work and absolutely collect
visitors' information when they visit your booth. The larger
your database of potential buyers, the greater your chance of
selling them in the future. This is an often overlooked method
of selling...future buyers established today.
2. Send out Press Releases about you and your work to various
media channels in your area and around the country. This could
be to introd (read full article) |

| Article Title :: The Problem with Autograph Authentication |
| |
|
As recently as 1997, the FBI estimated that between 50% and 90%
of all collectibles in the marketplace are not authentic.
Everyone that cares about the hobby agrees that something must
be done. And most think that autograph authentication - paying a
third party company to certify that an autograph is real - is a
logical solution that benefits everyone involved and eliminates
counterfeiting.
Last month, we featured a story by a
small business owner (and friend of mine) who would strongly
disagree with that statement. He sold a Michael Vick autographed
mini helmet on eBay. The buyer sent it to be authenticated by
PSA/DNA and, upon not receiving authentication, demanded a
refund. My friend s (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Remembering our Family |
| |
|
I feel it is important to make sure our lives are remembered.
When there is no story to a picture within ten or twenty years
one forgets what really happend, or who the person in the
picture is. I have no time for scrapbooking, I am a busy mom.
But I need to save my history for my girls, so what do I do? I
make books! Yes, books. Real, liabrary bound hardcover, glossy
paged books. It only takes a couple hours for each book and my
girls love being able to see there own faces on the coffee
table. It is such a simple idea, yet it is still so new to most
of us. I love helping people on there way to keeping there
history alive. Or better yet helping a grandparent be
remembered. That is my curre (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Practice -- The Art of Selecting Cave Walls to Canvas |
| |
|
As an oil painting instructor I'm used to all sorts of questions
from students learning how to paint on the materials of our
illustrious craft. In fact, one of the all time biggies is about
what painting surfaces to use for practice and finished products?
As a new oil painting artist, I quickly discovered the great
need for alternative painting surfaces. I like using canvas, but
mind you, one canvas is not all that expensive, but feeding a
new insatiable habit with two, three or even four canvases a day
can add up. Man has been in the great search for practice
painting surfaces ever since he started doodling on cave walls.
Unfortunately, cave walls are in short supply and they're
really, r (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Get a Hobby |
| |
|
According to Dictionary.com, a hobby is "an activity or interest
pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in
primarily for pleasure" (Dictionary.com). Merriam-Webster
defines a hobby as "a pursuit outside one's regular occupation
engaged in especially for relaxation" (Merriam Webster
Dictionary). A hobby is relaxation and pleasure, OUTSIDE of
one's occupation. Many people today, go to work, come home, do
not do anything, and then go back to work the next day, like
mindless drones slaving away at their job, making money for
bosses and owners who are pursuing their own interests and
hobbies. That is why they started the business in the first
place; it was something interesting to (read full article) |

| |
|
Any investor knows not to put all of his or her "eggs" into one
basket, or all of your money into one fund or stock account. If
all of your funds are in one stock, the risk is great that the
one stock account could go down and you would lose all of your
money. If you spread your investments out into many different
funds or accounts, if one account goes bad, it does not create
drastic adverse affects on your total funds. The losses and the
gains will balance out and as long as the economy is going well,
your money will grow. I find it is useful to apply the same
philosophy in our daily lives.
One of my favorite quotes is, "Variety is the spice of life."
If you put your whole life into one (read full article) |

This article is just highlighting some of the centuries-old
beliefs as to what constitutes an ideal physique for a ballet
dancer...
It is well recognized that a ballet dancer MUST possess a

| |
|
How popular is the cattleya orchid plants? Is it grown by
hobbyists or not? How big is the flower? Before we get into the
answers for these and other questions let's look at a bit of
history of the cattleya. It is fascinating! Cattleya orchids
have been named since the early 19th century. The earliest named
cattleya was the Cattleya labiata. Since then there has been a
mystique about them. From the hobbyist perspective they are
probably the most popular plant. The cattleya orchid plants have
one of the largest flowers, 5 inches across. They are harder to
grow as most of them flower only once per year. And the flowers
last only about 2 - 3 weeks. Although the hobbyists are the ones
