Why should you learn wilderness survival skills just for backpacking? They may save your life someday, and for ultralight enthusiasts like myself, skills replace gear, and therefore weight. To survive means to stay warm and dry, hydrated, uninjured, and to find your way out of the survival situation. Eating is nice too, but not crucial if the situation is for a few days. Below are some more or less random survival tips, just to get you interested. Wilderness Survival Tips 1. Warmth: Sleep with your head slightly downhill to stay warmer. This  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Gender Differences In Gambling

Being a fairly regular gambler, I have noticed a few interesting differences between men and women over the many years I've spent on the casino floor. Although these observations are by no means scientific, the general results have more or less been consistent. The results of these observations are as follows: Men - More likely to gamble than women. - Begin gambling in their late teens. - Gamble more frequently than women. - Place larger bets. - More competitive and play to win. - Enjoy games such as Blackjack and Poker. Women - Less likely to gamble than men. - Begin gambling in their mid 20s and up. - Gamble less frequently than men. - Place smaller bets than men. - Less comp  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Gambling Superstitions

Many times while gambling, I've found myself searching for subtle signs to assist me in making my next bet. For example, if I'm playing roulette and a person in a red blouse stands next to me, then I'll place an outside bet on red. If I'm experiencing very good luck at Blackjack and a less friendly dealer takes over the table, then I'll take it as a sign to move onto another table because my luck is about to change. Superstition and myth have always played a small part in the gambling area. From the common practice of blowing on a set of dice before rolling them, to the not so common practice of carrying a toenail from a horned toad, many gamblers believe that they can actually give their g  (read full article)

 Article Title :: The History Of Roulette

The term "Roulette" is derived from a French word meaning small wheel. The origin of Roulette is not very clear. while some sources state that Blaise Pascal, a 17th Century French mathematician invented the roulette wheel, other sources state that the game originated in China and was brought to Europe by Dominican monks who were trading with the Chinese. During the late 18th century the Roulette wheel became very popular when Prince Charles (ruler of Monaco at the time introduced gambling to Monacco as a way of alleviating the financial problems of the region.  Article Title :: Slot Machines

On average, one third of the casino's total revenue is generated by Slot machines. Compared to other casino games such as Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps and Roulette, Slot machines have a number of advantages which explain their popularity among casino players. Some of these advantages include the following: Easy to understand: The Slot machine is probably the easiest game to understand and play. One simply decides on how much money to place on each bet, and how many lines to bet on, before pressing a button. There are absolutely no skills required. Cheaper to play: Unlike a game of Blackjack or Roulette, where the minimum bet costs a few dollars, Slot machines offer the player minimum bets  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Blackjack

The origin of Blackjack is somewhat unclear. Some people believe that Blackjack originated in French casinos in the early 1700s where it was known as "vingt-et-un" ("20 and 1"). The game became known as Blackjack because if a player held a Jack of Spades and an Ace of Spades as the 1st two cards, the player was paid out extra. So with a Jack being a vital card and Spades being black, the game was called Blackjack. This game has been played in the United States since the 1800's. However, between the 1850's and 1910, gambling was legal in the United States until Nevada made it a felony to gamble. In 1931, Casino gambling was re-legalized in Nevada where Blackjack became one of the main game  (read full article)

 Article Title :: The History Of Slots And How To Play The Game

The very first slot machine (called 'Liberty Bell') was created by a man called Charles Fay from his workshop in San Francisco in 1887. Slightly smaller than today's average slot machines, Liberty Bell contained 3 reels and 20 symbols and operated pretty much in the same way as today's slot machines. Within a relatively short period of time, Fay's creation became so popular and successful that he began to work overtime in his workshop to meet the demand for his slot machines. Capitalizing on their success, Fay rented the machines to gambling establishments at a 50% commission rate, refusing to sell the manufacturing and distribution rights of his slot machines to gambling manufacturers.
