What is Scrapbooking? Do you remember those days as a kid pasting newspaper clippings onto paper and bundling dozens of papers together with some fancy ribbon or a string? Do you also remember all of your hard work falling apart two months later? Now there's a grown up way to save and preserve your treasures: Scrapbooking. The concept behind scrapbooking hasn't changed since grade school. You can still place photographs, newspaper clippings, poems, and tickets into your scrapbook to display and preserve your memories. However, scrapbooking techniques and tools have matured substantially since you were a kid. Scrapbooking albums have replaced the messy bundles of paper. These albums a  (read full article)

Article Title :: Film versus Digital for Weddings
As a professional Oregon wedding photographer I get this question asked more than anything else. Rarely will somebody ask me about my wedding photography education, awards, or professional memberships. I believe the root to this question lies on misinformation about the different qualities of film and digital. Film For a photographer with no computer experience or who does not want to spend the time correcting digital files film is the way to go. Film allows the photographer to photograph a wedding or event and at the end of the day be done with the process. When the time comes to print the photographs the photo lab will take care of color balance adjustments and retouching. From a  (read full article)

Article Title :: Hobby or Hinderance?
Ask a room full of people what hobby they have and you will get as many answers as there are people. Others will confess that they don’t have a hobby. They probably do; but just don’t label it as such. By definition, a hobby is an activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure. Whether stamp collecting, chat rooms, trains, soft ball, scrapbooking, golf, reading, painting, tap dancing, yard work, crafts, auto mechanics, music, hunting down garage sales, sewing, fishing, cooking, boating, furniture refinishing, javelin tossing or a plethora of other activities or interests the key element is balance.  Article Title :: Putting, what do I do now?
It is perhaps the supreme irony in golf that the simplest shot in the book seems to cause the biggest problem to the largest number of golfers. Lets's face it, the putt is the only golf shot that it is really possible to execute flawlessly without any tuition at all. We all start off doing this as kids. Some of us are even superb at it at this young age. It is this shot that is often the spur that leads to a lifelong addiction to this wonderful game of golf. What then, goes wrong? How can this easiest of golf shots become the absolute bane of an adult golfer's life? Sorry to say, there is no easy answer. Experts are just as baffled as inexperienced amateurs over this one. The saying 'i  (read full article)

Article Title :: Hollywood Gets Crafty
Sometimes it's hard to imagine that the stars who shine so brightly on cinematic screens are people just like the rest of us. We often think that their lives are so much more interesting and exciting than our own and that we have little or nothing in common with the Hollywood crowd. Well, it may surprise you to know that at least some of today's hottest stars enjoy perfectly normal leisure activities that we might acquaint more readily with something your grandmother enjoys doing. I'm talking about crafts. More specifically, knitting and crocheting. These two activities are especially hot in recent years and Hollywood stars and other celebrities are certainly not immune to the lure of a   (read full article)

Article Title :: The most important tool for racing RC Cars
Believe it or not, the most important tool for tuning and modifying RC cars, in any RC racer's pit box, probably isn't even sold at your local hobby store. Despite thier absence at hobby stores, you will see them laying on EVERY serious RC pro's pit area. The tool is, collectively, the pencil and paper. One of the most enjoyable experiences in RC cars, besides buying a new trick ride, is testing something new, in the hope you will discover the slight edge, or even a HUGE edge. Today's RC cars, buggies, and trucks have so many variables that can be tinkered with, even the slightest adjustment can have a drastic effect on the handling and speed of your ride. Whether you race or just bash  (read full article)

Article Title :: Tips for Using Metallic Threads
Metallic threads can add beautiful accents to any piece, but many people avoid using them because of the difficulties they can cause. This article will share with you some tips on how to make using metallic threads a lot easier. 1. Make sure that the fabric is taut on your frame at all times. 2. Purls (a fragile corkscrew of soft pliable wire that can’t be restored to the original shape after it’s been distorted) are especially fragile and must be treated with the utmost care. 3. Any metal thread wrapped around a core should be handled with extra care since when the outer layer has started to unwind there is no way to fix it. 4. Most handmade metal threads can be hand washed. 5. Two l  (read full article)

Article Title :: Keeping Your Needlework Clean
The best way to clean your needlework is to keep it clean from the beginning; this doesn’t always happen (as I very well know). I can give you some tips on how to make this more likely to happen, and also how to get out those inevitable stains. One of the first things you can do to prevent stains is to set the colors in your fabric and floss. It isn’t always necessary to wash your fabric first, but a good thing to do is to put it in a solution of one part white vinegar to three parts cold water. This ensures that the colors won’t run. I have never heard of this shrinking the fabric either, so don’t worry about that, just make sure you always use cold water. It’s always a good id  (read full article)
