Article Title :: Log Work Bench Plan
This log workbench is great for an outdoor work space and can easily be built over the weekend. You will need logs that have been peeled and are roughly: * 2 @ 68" x 3"ø - Upper Rails * 2 @ 63" x 3"ø - Lower Rails * 4@ 32" x 4-1/2"ø - Legs * 4@ 32" x 3"ø - Stretchers * optional: 2 sheets 3/4" plywood Start by making a 2-1/4" long x 1-1/2"ø tenon on one end of each leg. Make the same size tenon on both ends of the stretcher pieces and the lower rails. Using an 1-1/2" forsner bit, drill the holes in the upper rails, 2-1/2" from the ends. Both holes must be in line with each other. Drill the holes 1-1/2" deep. Measure and mark the legs 8-1/2" from the bottom for the lower rails and  (read full article)

Article Title :: Make a body pillow from an old bedsheet
Do you have an old bed sheet that has seen better days, which you are considering throwing away? Don't throw it away? Recycle it. Change it into a body pillow. Do you intend to throw that soft, comfortable bed sheet because it has little tears, stains or holes in it? Keep it. You can use that as stuffing for your body pillow. Before you start, have both bed sheets bleached, washed and dry to ensure you have totally clean materials to start with. Then take the best looking old bed sheet and fold it in half lengthwise, and half across the width, so you have a rectangle a quarter of the size of the original bedsheet. When you fold the bed s  (read full article)

Article Title :: Top six reasons to buy a digital piano instead of an acoustic.
There are several reasons why piano and keyboard players choose digital pianos over their acoustic counterparts. Let's talk about some of the main reasons. 1. There is no need for tuning. Acoustic pianos have to be tuned once or twice a year. However, since the sounds of digital pianos are in digital format, they never go out of tune. Forget about paying a tuner all the time and save. 2. They are portable. A regular upright piano could weigh over 500 lbs. A grand piano weighs a lot more. Compare this to digital pianos that weigh less than 100 lbs. You could easily carry one under your arm from gig to gig. Transportation is easy. The fact that many of them could be disassembled is al  (read full article)

Article Title :: Turn To Weather When You're Bored
What do you do when you are bored witless and want to grow some more brain cells? Just when you think there is nothing left to do on summer vacation, here are a few weather related crafts and experiments. On the top of my list is time-lapse photography. Set up a camcorder on a tripod, point it at a hill or butte, and flip the time-lapse switch. Time-lapse cloud photography is fun to watch. You will see clouds try to develop and dissipate, some seemingly standing still while others whip on past. High clouds and low clouds may move in different directions, too. While the camcorder is running - preferably for several hours - you can study wildflowers, birds, assorted varmints, or just relax  (read full article)

Article Title :: The History of Clay Poker Chips
For the last 75 years, clay chips have not actually been constructed out of pure clay. Actual clay chips were used in the United States during the late 1800's; however, these easily broken chips were quickly replaced by clay filled composites that provided much greater durability and security. In the early part of the 1900’s chips were commonly molded from Plaskon, an ureaformaldehyde molding compound. In the 1930’s die cut metal foil was applied to the chips to give unique identity and added security. Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo Casino with these chips. E-PokerChips.com tells us that the 1950’s saw most casinos using the newest chips with house designs, logos or both molded i  (read full article)

Article Title :: Remote Control Car Motors
All types of racing cars have different types of motors. Some have single or some have double. It is really confusing to try to sort out the difference between a single our double motor car. Plus a newbie into the world of remote control cars gets easily disoriented with what is a 13 turn double or a 13 turn single…? Well, in plain speaking language it refers to number of times the wires are wrapped around the armature. A 13 turn double would be 2 strands wrapped 13 times. A 13 turn single would be 1 wire wrapped 13 times. The double wires have more torque where as single wires have more speed. In general, it means that more turns means more torque but less speed and vice versa. That’s  (read full article)

Article Title :: Those Mountains in the Back - Identifying Your Old Family Photos
I read an article recently about the quantity of family photos we accumulate in our lifetime. I think it said somewhere around 1,200 in any given household, the majority of which are unmarked. I can believe that—the unmarked part especially. I'm horrible when it comes to jotting a note on the back of my photos. "My photos" refer to the ones that were taken by me or a living member of my family. I even have photos undeveloped from the 1980s, but I intend to get them developed "sometime real soon—as soon I get a chance." It's the same story with my hobby photo collection, which contains tens of thousands of photos. Most of the photos are of note-less, name-less faces. If it weren't for  (read full article)

Article Title :: Candles- It is easy to make your Own
Most people, especially women have a special affinity for candles. The candle-lit dinner, the relaxing bath by candlelight, even the candles on the kid’s birthday cake are but a few of the ways we enjoy candles. Candles can set the mood for almost any occasion, even if the occasion is simply to forget the day and relax. If you’ve purchased very many candles, you’ve learned the cheapest candles are not necessarily the best, nor are the most expensive candles the best. The problem often comes between the candle color and fragrance. You may love the color, and hate the fragrance, or you may hate the color and love the fragrance of the candles. The best solution for these problems with c  (read full article)
