Article Title :: Autograph Collecting: Questions and Answers

Obtaining autographs from celebrities requires patience and a little luck. As well, purchasing autographs online requires knowledge of the hobby. Question: I want to start sending requests to celebrities for autographs, what should I include in the letter? Answer: When writing a letter to a celebrity, it is advisable to write no more than one page. Although celebrities may be thrilled that you appreciate their work, or liked their acting in a certain TV show or movie, they simply do not have enough time to read multi-page letters from fans. Also, when writing to a celebrity, try to include some specific references to their work that you particularly enjoy. Be very specific in your descrip  (read full article)

Article Title :: Slow Shutter Speeds and Long Exposure Photography

Many new cameras will come with built-in shutter speeds of up to 30 seconds or longer, which is enough for most long-exposure photography. Other cameras will have a B (bulb) setting that will keep the shutter open as long as you keep your finger on the shutter release button or a T (time) exposure setting that will keep the shutter open until you press the shutter release button a second time. Cameras with bulb settings can also be fitted with a locking cable release so that it isn't necessary to keep your finger on the shutter for long exposures. If your camera doesn't have a cable release, you can use the self-timer option found on most cameras. This will eliminate camera vibration from   (read full article)

Article Title :: Civil War Uniform Shirts - Should You Use a One or Two-Piece Body?

Civil War Uniform Shirts: When to Use a One and Two Piece Body! By Paula and Coach McCoach http://www.civilwaruniforms.net Is Coach's patriotic shirt pictured on http://www.civilwaruniforms.net/shirts.htm a one or two-piece body? The patriotic shirt is a 2-piece body but it does not have to be because it has shoulder straps on it. This is a Charlie Childs pattern with some of my own variations. A common pattern is a one-piece body with gussets under the sleeves with or without a collar using the same pattern. You can vary the widths of the cuffs to copy original photographs. There is no standard pattern - even issued shirts were made off civilian patterns of the day. The variation  (read full article)

Article Title :: Infrared Photography with Sony's Night-shot mode

This is really cool. Today I learned I could use my Sony f717 camera to take those neat Infrared photos with a floppy disk as an IR filter. I knew the camera could take such photos, as I've seen plenty of examples on the Sony forums over at DPReview. What I didn't know is that I could experiment with this mode without having to shell out for an R72 filter first. All you need is one of those old five and a quarter inch floppy disks from that box of diskettes you've been clinging to in your closet. Rip one apart today. One that's labelled DOS 4.01 would be a really good choice. Get the round disk out of it. Then put your camera into nightshot mode (not night-framing). Go outside and hold t  (read full article)
