Article Title :: We Are the Architects, Ladies!

Several friends of ours have gotten divorces through the years. It surprised and dismayed us, for these seemed stable marriages built on the Rock. Instead, they crashed on the sharp rocks of contention and discontent that tore them and their children apart. When I read Proverbs, the book in the Bible which I feel helps us to guide our lives with practical wisdom, I think about these couples, especially the ladies, and what verses might apply to their situations. Two in particular stand out: "The wise woman builds her house..." (Proverbs 14:1); "Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars" (Proverbs 9:1).We women are social architects who build for the futur (read full article)

Article Title :: Strike or Stroke

"Our lips are our own: who calls us to account?" (Psalm 12:4 Moffatt); "Therefore I will not keep silent; I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul" (Job 7:11).We can stroke or strike people with words. Job and his three friends are a striking example of not being stroked when Job so needed it. Job's friends meant well; they met and went to him and even sat speechless for seven days (Job 2:1113). Later Job was to say to them in his desperation, "If only you would altogether be silent! For you, that would be wisdom" (Job 13:5.)Our lips are not our own. We are arrogant to even think that God has nothing to do with what we say. A (read full article)

Article Title :: Orchids to You

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8); "Love covers all wrongs" (Proverbs 10:12b); "He who covers over an offense promotes love..." (Proverbs 17:9)Oh, let us engrave these verses on our hurting hearts! These are the verses that, with God's help, can renew our commitment to God Himself, as well as to those who need and deserve our cherishment. Love, in spite of how we feel about the who or the what or the why...! What a monumental invitation into the very chambers and the character of the Father. It also takes monumental courage, with emphasis on the mental, for it is taking hold of the will to love, even as God loves, in spi (read full article)

Article Title :: The Noble Man and Woman

"But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands"(Isaiah 32:8); "If a man cleanses himself...he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work" (2 Timothy 2:21)."Every noble life leaves its fiber interwoven forever in the work of the world" (Ruskin). We all know that certain person who has enriched our lives beyond any human measurement; that extraordinary person who has elevated our existence into his or her serene sphere and inspired us to be and to do our best. Years later, when confronted with a crisis, we think of the person and the trustworthy advice given in love, and it enables us to go on. If we (read full article)

Article Title :: Great Quotes: "Sometimes, You Have To Go A Long Distance Out Of Your Way"

“How did you see your path in life so early?” I’ve been asked, a number of times. If I have, or if it seems I have, it’s probably because I read widely, and various insights and quotations stick with me, and I’ve used them for guidance. One of them comes from the Edward Albee play: “The Zoo Story.”Jerry, a key character, is lecturing someone who is sitting on a bench in New York’s Central Park.Suddenly, he blurts out, “Sometimes you have to go a long distance out of your way to come back a short distance, correctly.”While this notion may not seem earthshaking on the surface, I promise you, if you review your own life, you’ll appreciat (read full article)

Article Title :: Godly Mothers - A Precious and Rare Gift

| I have had the great privilege of having a mother for 51 years
and being one for 28 years. The older I get, the more I
appreciate the most wonderful gift that God could have ever
given me, my own mom. I see myself in her in many ways
and in other ways, I'm nothing like her. I have made many
mistakes in my life, ones that my mother would never have
made, but she respected me as an individual and never
tried to interfere. She knew she gave me a firm foundation
on which to come back into. I can't say she wasn't heart
broken at times for some of my decisions. But, she had faith
in God and His promises. And this is what makes a godly
mother. She took me to church o (read full article) |

Article Title :: Inspirational Thought For The Day

| Are you ready for your inspirational thought for the day? When you first read it, it may seem too simple. However, if you think about it for even a moment, you'll see that the implications are profound - and inspiring. This is t:
"Whatever goals you have in your life, and no matter where you are start, someone has succeeded at something similar or even more difficult, starting with less than you have."
There may be some of you out of the six billion on the planet for whom this doesn't apply. Perhaps some really want to do things that are far beyond anything a man or woman has ever done, so I apologize to the fifty of you. As for the rest of you, what do you want? (read full article) |

Article Title :: From Contentious To Content

"[Love] keeps no records of wrongs" (1 Corinthians 13:5b NIV).When we love we feel wonderful. Remember when you were "in love?" I do. It was such a creative and growing time. Then I got married and started keeping records. Bad!In a booklet I wrote, Why Stay Married, I suggested ten commandments for keeping one's union intact:1. List your spouse's good points only.2. List your own negative contributions to the marriage.3. Read God's word together, if at all possible. If your spouse will not join you in daily devotionals, then read and pray privately. Daily reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.4. Use your creative imagination to see yourself as loving your (read full article)

Article Title :: Decisiveness, Positiveness and Stubborness

"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!" (Joel 3:14 NKJV).Many relationships falter on stubbornness. Graves have been dug with the words, "I'm right." I had a relative who was always right – absolutely, retroactively right, even when she wasn't there and you were! She also died at a young age, poor soul. Bless her, she spent her short, insecure life proving every nit-picking point. It would have been the end of her warped world to have been proven wrong. Perhaps definitions are in order here:1. decisiveness;2. positiveness; and3. stubbornness.Decisiveness is the ability to come to a decision, make an effective choice and mentally resolve a c (read full article)

Article Title :: Getting a Grip on Our Gripes

"Do everything without complaining or arguing" (Philippians 2:14).“The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on" (Arabic Proverb). "Things cannot always go your way. Learn to accept in silence the minor aggravations, cultivate the gift of taciturnity and consume your own smoke with an extra draught of hard work, so that those about you may not be annoyed with the dust and soot of your complaints" (William Osler). It's a long step from complainant to complaisance. The physician Dr. Edward Trudeau had tuberculosis and his approach was, "I have found that the great word is Acquiescence." Sophisticated folks have a hard time acquiescing to anything, much less everything.Disra (read full article)
