 Article Title :: My Journey

I believe it's important for you to develop a mission statement for your life; one that is unique and articulates your values, goals, dreams; how you want to live.Your mission statement is a living, breathing testimony of the life you are committed to living. It is also a way to pull yourself back from the darkness when you are feeling lost in the minutiae of misery.I read my mission statement every morning and it grounds me and reminds me what is important and how I want to be that day. I have not shared this with others before now, because it is intensely personal, but I thought I would share it in this article, in hopes that you will write your own mission statement as on  (read full article)

 Article Title :: The Art of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a critical element in becoming self actualized and fully loving. Forgiving is the process by which you let go of feeling victimized or having wronged others. It allows you to climb out of the dark well of anger, bitterness, or guilt into which you can easily fall.In a busy life, you are frequently confronted with opportunities to forgive others as well as yourself. With others, you cope with mild frustrations like the delivery person who shows up late, or with more severe transgressions like the friend who tells your secrets. With these events, forgiving is hindered if the behavior violates your basic sense of what is "right" or fair, or how you think people "should"  (read full article)

 Article Title :: The Art of Selfishness

Mature selfishness is the cornerstone of effectively living with passion and purpose. A commitment to self- interest is practical and efficient since you are better able to meet your needs than hope that someone else does. It is the basis for the laws of natural selection and "survival of the fittest." Unfortunately, society has given mature selfishness a bad name.Parents are well intended when they teach their children that selfishness is bad. Infants are primitively selfish and need to learn compromise, delay of gratification, and social interest to deal effectively with others. Yet, there is a continuum from constant, immediate selfishness on one end to always putting other peop  (read full article)

 Article Title :: A Life of Purpose's Extraction

Purpose. What is purpose? Drinking coffee when you wake up and making a habit of drinking coffee only when you wake up? No. Trying to drink coffee when it’s hot and trying conscientiously to make it a habit to swallow it hot? No. Blowing white, shivering steam off the surface and then, guttering it down immediately so that it’d fall lightly against the cylindrical walls of your gorge? No.Purpose is about drinking tea.It is not ambition. It is not about making money. It is not even about fame. In any of them, almost every human being will be privileged without any effort at all in some portent or another. Purpose is not borrowed or decided or concluded or made, for heaven  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Make Mistakes! It's Okay - Really!

When you fall, do you get right back up? Do you learn from your mistake and move on? Or do you kick yourself so hard in the butt that you just mope around for days in your PJs and wonder why you're so miserable? Come on! Get a grip!Okay, okay, that was uncalled for, but seriously, the more mistakes you make, the more you learn. The more you learn the more you grow and the more likely you'll be a future bright star in the sky.When you were a young growing child, how were you supposed to know the oven was hot? Or that you can’t put metal in the microwave? Or that when you say something impolite you'll hurt someone's feelings? You would have either experienced these things fi  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Nuthin' but Blue Skies

"Welcome to Canada," Ken shouted to me over the roar of the rain and thunder. A constant downpour kept the photography workshop indoors. We slipped out during a break in the clouds, but as soon as we set up our tripods, a thunderstorm swept in out of nowhere and sent us scurrying back down the mountain trail to our cars. Since I signed on for this tour of the Canadian Rockies, everything had gone right.It rained sporadically for the first two days of the workshop and we were all a little down. So, Ken Pugh, our photography instructor and guide, used the down time to teach us some nature photography techniques and camouflage tactics. Those sessions helped me a lot since I was a novi  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Heart

Direct Answers - Column for the week of May 24, 2004I am the mother of a 6-year-old child. My husband is an alcoholic and refuses to realize it because he can skip a few days, once in awhile, before drinking again. A few years ago he went to a counselor with me and was told those few days in between are considered a "dry drunk." I totally agree as his verbal abuse is worst when he's dry occasionally.I have a little bit of college, but no vehicle or means of getting out on my own. Everyone refuses to help. They tell me to stay with him and raise my son. I feel I am the only parent as my husband spends most of the time drinking, cursing, or sleeping. Why am I the only person w  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Switch to a Better Channel!

Peril, catastrophe and disaster.These are our friends, allies and mentors.Appearing as enemies on the surface, these seeming threats are our most helpful teachers on our Earth adventure. These apparent foes repeatedly demonstrate how we humans have awesome power over our fate and circumstances in life.When faced with an expected outcome we don't like, we have an option. We can open to an alternative scenario, another framework, a different set of rules. I jokingly call this handy ploy "switching channels."I discovered that we all have the ability to change the channel or perspective from which we are viewing-and creating!-our Earthvision series. When the plot l  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Don’t Let the Boogeyman Steal Your Dreams

The boogeyman lurking in the closet scares the bejesus out of little kids. “Big people” know the imaginary monster from their childhood isn’t real. Yet, adults freeze in their tracks when the same monster pops up on their path in life.The closer we come to reaching our dreams, the more our monstrous emotions and mind-talk flash their urgent warnings, “Stop! Don’t go any further. You can’t pull it off. You’re not good enough. You’re gonna screw up. Or get hurt. Or die!” When you buy into these threats, you can feel confused. Numb. Scattered. Unfocused. So, ask yourself, “Is what the ego telling me true?” If you don’t challenge the propaganda of the boogeyman,  (read full article)

 Article Title :: I Am Unique

We have given a lot of thought, paid an indecent amount of money and taken much action over the years to change the way we are. To become ‘better’ human beings. To make the most of this life we have. To get rid of the behaviours that are counterproductive. The behaviours that cause harm to us and others.We have attended numerous courses, workshops and seminars around the world. Only to find that the bottom line is that no one can do it except us. No one can change the way you are except you.Adding a technique or two, or focussing on a behaviour that causes upset does not work. In order to ensure you are constantly happy, healthy and more at peace with the world you need   (read full article)
