Crystal Reports – Heterogeneous databases: SQL Server, Oracle, Unidata, Btrieve, Ctree – tips for developer
by: Andrew Karasev
There are different categories of reporting tools. If you look at the financial reporting – you see such nice instruments as FRx or internal report writer of the financial application (ReportWriter in the case of Microsoft Great Plains). FRx has a link to Microsoft Great Plains or Solomon General Ledger (GL). Crystal Reports is rather universal reporting tool, which means that it doesn’t have special setup to be used for something specific, as in the case of financial reporting tools. Crystal Reports is the most flexible tool on the market and it ha (read full article) |

Five Questions To Ask A Technical Training School -- BEFORE Signing Up
by: Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933
As with any field, there are good technical training schools, and bad ones. When you sign up with one of these schools, you’ve made a significant investment in time and money. You deserve to know everything about the school and your job prospects after leaving that school before you put down your hard-earned money. The problem is, sometimes it’s hard to know the right questions to ask.
The point of this article is not to bash technical training schools. That’s how I got my start in IT eight years ago, and today I’m a CCIE™ and own my own Cisco training company and my own (read full article) |

The True Meaning of Freeware
by: Daniel Robson
The vast majority of us will have, at some point, had freeware games or applications installed on our systems. If you’ve played an online Java or Flash based game, you’ve used freeware. In a very real way the Internet itself is freeware, a massive collections of scripts, information, tools and resources that are, for the most part, totally free. But what is it that motivates so many people to put so much work into a project, and then release it totally free of charge? There are a few misconceptions about freeware that I would like to clear up.
1.) “Freeware programs are loaded with spy ware and Trojan horses” – not true. While i (read full article) |

What Stands Behind The Software Description?
by: Daria Winkler
With thousands of web pages added to the Net every day, it's getting more and more frustrating both to submit the information to the attention of those, who are interested in it and to find the information one needs.
The problem is even aggravated with the fact that customers become more exigent to the products they are offered. When it comes to the issue of software development and B2B solutions, they can't be considered ignorant any more. Customers are backed up by the basic knowledge of programming tools and their "should-have" functionality.
The recent online surveys show that customers are not attracted by price o (read full article) |

Music in the Digital Age
by: Esperdi Bova
We are on the brink of a major change in the way the music industry operates. Digital music will not just change the way people purchase music, but it will also change the way musicians approach creating albums. Digital music gives people the opportunity to instantaneously purchase a song they like – without having to purchase the rest of the album. Artists and executives are both going to have to look at how music is released, and if it is worth producing an entire album if people aren’t going to buy it.
Piracy of course is another major issue that the music industry will have to look into and examine. Currently, it is so simple to downl (read full article) |

Dating Site Review: Udate
by: Matt Matcherson
Udatians often complain about the slowness of Udate's messenger "whispers", but it’s always been one of my favorite dating places! I've simply had the best luck connecting with this format...and the old twin site kiss.com.
Kiss.com was absorbed into match.com, touted for a while as the "New kiss.com". I mention this because for a while Kiss and Udate were identical style sites with different members. Now the match.com site has "powered by udate" tacked up here and there. I have no inside scoop, but it does make you wonder if Udate's days are limited. I would hate to lose this site because it is really a fun and simple place to connect.

22 Questions to Ask Before You Use Any Shopping Cart System
by: Tom Antion
Many seasoned professional speakers agree that you can make more money selling your knowledge in the form of products than you can speaking.
You can use traditional methods to sell products such as direct mail, catalogs and advertising. However, if you have a great online presence, the entire world is your marketplace at a fraction of the cost of most traditional methods. To easily sell to this worldwide marketplace, you need a great shopping cart system.
Choosing a shopping cart system is perhaps the most important single decision you'll make in your online marketing career.
This is because:

Internet Distribution: The Future of Entertainment
by: Daniel Punch
A friend and I were having a discussion recently. I asked him what he thought the next method of distribution for films and music would be. My thoughts were that we would have to come up with some new method that was convenient, sturdy and didn't involve compression (as CDs and DVDs do, thereby limiting the picture and sound quality, although not very much). He simply said that it wasn't going to happen; in the future it's all going to be distributed on the Internet.
I've heard this argument before. My grade ten IT teacher assured us that within five years (and this was four years ago) we would no longer be purchasing (read full article) |

Getting Good Picture Results
by: Gem Tullao
There was this guy who owns a state-of-the-art, high-end digital SLR. Since it was my first time to meet him, I initially thought that he could be a photographer, hobbyist or by profession, when he brandished the hi-tech gear. This initial impression only lasted until I saw one of his shots – man, there was no composition! What waste of money – unless of course, he manages to get acquainted with photography, even the basics at the least. Otherwise, the digicam ends up as the display instead of it churning out images for display.
Before you can even jump to tinkering with digital photography techniques, it would be good to learn basic com (read full article) |

Microsoft Great Plains 8.0 - Microsoft RMS 1,2 Multi-Store Integration – overview
by: Andrew Karasev
Microsoft Great Plains and Microsoft Retail Management System (Microsoft RMS) are originally developed by different software vendors, who had no idea that in the remote future (now) these two applications will be owned by Microsoft and will need to be tightly integrated. Current integration between the two is not an easy thing. At this time MBS has RMS integration on the General Ledger and Purchase Order level into Great Plains out of the box. This integration has some advancements in comparison to old product: QuickSell, but it is still GL and PO only. We do understand the need f (read full article) |
