Article Title :: Understand American Money

Dear ESL Student, The American money system is logical and very easy to use. It is based on the dollar ($1.00), on which all cash and coins are dependent. There are 100 cents in a dollar. Coins are parts of one dollar, for example: a quarter ($0.25) is 1/4 of a dollar, a dime ($0.10) is 1/10th of a dollar, and so forth. Paper bills are multiples of a dollar: for example, a $5 bill. US Paper Currency The twenty, ten, five, and one are the most frequently used bills. When speaking about money, $1 is referred to as "a one", "a dollar", "a dollarbill", or "a buck"; $5 is "a five", "five dollars", "a five dollar bill", or "five bucks"; etc. Another way to refer to money   (read full article)

Dear ESL Student, Native English speakers make mistakes too! These sentences were modified from national magazines and advertisements in the USA.  Article Title :: Mastering a Foreign Language: How To Become A Brilliant Speaker, Part 7 of 7

‘You Are What You Believe’You’re probably familiar with some of these clichés: You are what you eat. You are what you read. You are who you spend time with. There are a lot of ideas and sayings out there about who you are, and although some of them hold a great deal of wisdom, the one that rings true for me is, you are what you believe yourself to be.Your beliefs about yourself and your abilities are either the dealmakers or the deal breakers. No matter how great a language program you are in, no matter how hard you try, no matter how many things you do great to master a foreign language, if you don’t truly believe you have the ability and the tenacit  (read full article)

Article Title :: Don't Forget A Spanish Dictionary!

On a recent tour through Mexico and Central America, I realized that I had forgotten many things for my journey. For some reason I made it out of my house without my toothbrush and toothpaste, but fortunately I was able to replace them as soon as I realized my mistake. I also forgot film for my camera but was able to purchase some once I got to Mexico as well. Far worse than forgetting those things, however, was the realization that I had forgotten my Spanish dictionary that I had received and practiced with just for this trip. My best friend gave me the Spanish dictionary a few months before I headed out on my trip because she remembered what a difficult time I had in high scho  (read full article)

Article Title :: The New Dark Ages

When I was growing up in a slum in Israel, I devoutly believed that knowledge and education will set me free and catapult me from my miserable circumstances into a glamorous world of happy learning. But now, as an adult, I find myself in an alien universe where functional literacy is non-existent even in developed countries, where "culture" means merely sports and music, where science is decried as evil and feared by increasingly hostile and aggressive masses, and where irrationality in all its forms (religiosity, the occult, conspiracy theories) flourishes. The few real scholars and intellectuals left are on the retreat, back into the ivory towers of a century ago. Increasingly  (read full article)

Article Title :: Translation Services - The Essential Element of Global Business

As globalisation alters the way business is conducted, the accurate communication of information across languages takes on an increasing importance. When a foreign client or customer’s impression of you is solely dependent upon your company’s literature, it is critical that this literature is as well written in their native language as it is in yours. You want the message to read the same way in both languages so that there is no room for misunderstanding, but you also want to feel confident that your message is delivered as accurately and professionally in their language as it is in yours. Naturally, since you are unlikely to know the language you are wanting your literature to be tr  (read full article)

Article Title :: Why Learn Spanish?

Why learn Spanish of all languages? Why not Italian, French, or even Russian, because it seems to be the most practical language to have these days living in the US. With an ever-expanding Latin American population, being able to speak a language that is becoming so widely used would be an invaluable asset. Schools are even becoming bi-lingual and Spanish is stressed. There are even parts of the country; Miami springs to mind, where there are most likely more people for whom Spanish is their first language than there are people who are native English speakers. Even outside of the states, Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world; the ranking is apparently   (read full article)

The invention of the internet has made everything easier right?
