| Article Title :: Risk Assessment in The Workplace. Part 1. |
| |
|
What is risk assessment?
A risk assessment is simply a careful examination of your
workplace, to identify what could cause harm to people, so that
you can decide as to whether you have taken enough precautions
or should do more to prevent harm from being caused.
Work accidents and work related ill health, can ruin lives, and
seriously affect your business also, if output is lost,
machinery is damaged, insurance costs increase, or you have to
go to court.
You are legally required to assess the risks in your workplace.
The important thing you need to decide is whether a hazard is
significant, and whether you have taken satisfactory precautions
to minimize the risk.

| Article Title :: CAN FIVE S HELP ME? (A common sense approach to improving
quality, productivity, safety and profits. |
| |
|
What is Five S?
Five S is a component of lean manufacturing that involves
organization and cleanliness, and then using standards to
maintain what has been accomplished. The term "Five S"
represents the five stages of a Five S program:
Sorting (Eliminate broken or unused equipment, tools and
supplies.)
Systematic Organization (Put everything in its proper place.)
Shine (Clean up on a regular schedule.)
Standardize (Make the above three steps easy to accomplish.)
Sustain (Take steps to maintain what has been accomplished.)
Five S involves common sense practices and is not very
complicated. But until the 5S System was created, many
businesses ignored these basic principles.

| Article Title :: What To Do When Your IT Project Is Late, Over Budget, and Looks Like It's Never Going To Work |
| |
| Here’s a scary statistic. According to four prominent research firms, only around 20% of all IT projects are finished in a timely manner. By “timely” the researchers mean without loss of quality or being over budget. They go on to say the average project runs approximately 200 percent late, roughly 200 percent over budget, and contains only 2/3 of the original functionality.Failure is the norm in the IT industry. But why? And more importantly, how do we fix it?There must be a way to dissect the problem, and create a solution to the diagnosis of “doomed failure.” Trust me, there is!Top 7 Problems and Their SolutionsLet’s take a look at the top (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Give Yourself a Boss' Day Gift |
| |
| Become a better boss and reap the benefitsAnother interesting study was done. One that should really catch our attention. It reveals that employees who are happier and treated well, produce better results than those who are unhappy. And most frontline workers are unhappy and are looking elsewhere for work. No, it shouldn’t surprise us. But somehow it does. It surprises us first, because we are stunned that a study had to be done to prove something that is so obvious. The outcome of the study should not be as surprising as the fact that it was done at all! When we recover from that, then it may surprise us because we aren’t aware that most frontline staffers aren’t hap (read full article) |

| |
| Recently, I felt appalled to see a political candidate running on the motto of “Demand More!” That motto oozes extreme nerve, and implies some people think it is o.k., as the saying goes, to “rob Peter to pay Paul.”Well, this “Demand More!” philosophy led me to thinking about “leeches.” I define “leeches” as people who devote their time and energy trying to get something for nothing – including you and your company.YOU LET “LEECHES” INTO YOUR COMPANYMost companies have hired “leeches.” These are employees who look forward to using every vacation day more than they look forward to putting in a day’s work for a day’s pay.“Le (read full article) |

| |
| Surveys of executives reveal that many companies fall short of their profit objectives due to “people problems.” Research for my Absolutely Fabulous Organizational Change book found these “people problems” fall into two “r” categories: rebellion and resistance.Rebellion is akin to teenagers defying authority figures, fir instance, rebelling against leaders who institute change. Resistance includes employees flinging roadblocks in the way of the organizational change. Examples include employees slowing down their work pace, badmouthing the change behind leaders’ backs, making spiteful comments about the leaders, and slashing productivity.Feels Like a Lover or (read full article) |

| |
| 160 years ago, the newly invented electric telegraph carried
the first news message. The message zipped 40 miles in a flash over wires from Baltimore to Washington, D.C.The public was dazzled -- except Henry David Thoreau. He wrote: "We are in great haste to construct a magnetic telegraph from Maine to Texas; but Maine and Texas, it may be, have nothing important to communicate."Today, we live in a Golden Age of communication. We have the Internet. We have faxes. We have e-mails. We have streaming video. We have on-line audio. We have RSS feeds. We have logs and blogs.Yet today Thoreau is as right as rain. When it comes to really getting our messages across, (read full article) |
