Article Title :: The Brain Drain

Am I the only one, or does it seem harder and harder to remember things? I remember long ago, somehow I made a barely-conscious decision to purge useless information from my brain. This was probably to make room for newer, more exciting information, such as the name of that cute girl over there or the latest interpretation of the Special Theory of Relativity. It was a double edged strategy. I was able to process loads of new data, but the mundane, such as remembering to wear matching shoes, suffered. I moved through life controlled by a CPU which more resembled RAM (random access, or temporary, memory) as opposed to archival hard-drive storage. But oddly, I was able to conjure up weird p  (read full article)

Article Title :: The Wisdom of the River : Lessons Learned

Over the past few years I have watched the popularity of whitewater rafting grip the vacation market. "Strange", I thought. "Why would floating down a river become such a hotly contested vacation destination?" Today, I understand this phenomena completely. There is a wisdom and lesson that only the river can teach. It is a lesson that I intend to learn as often as possible. Whitewater rafting has become one of America's favorite recreational activities for many reasons. There are several theories on this but I think the majority of them miss the mark. The fans argue that what makes the whitewater experience so compelling, so satisfying, and so incredibly exhilarating is that it is REAL! Th  (read full article)

Article Title :: A Sure Way To Get Lower Worker Productivity

There is a lot of talk these days about the "shoot the moon" costs associated with college and university expenses. Average annual raises of 7 to 10 percent are common. In four years the fees will be 1/3 more than they are right now. Big deal! What does that have to do with the workers, employees or associates of any company or corporation? Four years at a state institution will run from fifty to sixty thousand. Private schools are in the hundred to hundred and fifty thousand bracket and more. Most parents, those paying the bills, will deplete their 401k's, sell real property, cash in life insurance policies, empty savings accounts, borrow, borrow, borrow, and what may be worse than any of  (read full article)

Article Title :: Only Good Guys Look For Jobs?

- Résumé Lies and Half Truths - According to the résumés that are distributed to large corporations and small businesses, only good guys look for jobs. This seems to be especially true in the Information Technology field. You will never see a résumé that shows that a project was cancelled, or that the programmer was removed from a project due to his inability to meet the needs of the company or a client. Instead, the résumé's all show that only the best of the best are looking for work. If they are the best of the best - then why are they seeking work? Why have they had so many different jobs? Why aren't these companies treating these IT professionals better? Well, the fact is tha  (read full article)

Article Title :: Find More Hours In The Day, By Taking Control Of The Ones You Already Have

I wish I had more time. How often have you said that to someone? Some say that time is much more important than wealth. Most effective people think so and top business leaders mention this in interviews and biographies.  Article Title :: WARNING. Easy Journey Ahead

I am on my way to the quarterly status update with my Sales Manager. The last quarter has been terribly bad. We reached nowhere near the Sales target. Naturally, I am moving ahead with a great resistance and a palpitation rate of the highest order. I have no idea of what will turn out for me in the meeting. Fifteen minutes later, I come out of the room. There is a sigh of relief on my face; a similar _expression can be seen on my Sales Manager's face. As soon as I come to my cubicle - out of my Sales Manager's sight, this "sigh of relief" explodes into an _expression of joy - I DID IT, AND I DID IT AGAIN !!! I could convince him easily about why the sales couldn't happen this time, why  (read full article)

Article Title :: What is the best Incentive ?

Incentive schemes have been much criticised in recent years, and it is quite true that some schemes have been singularly unsuccessful. Their failure, however, has often been the result of inadequate planning, rushed introduction, or not thinking through such a scheme properly. These points should not be used to generally condemn other more successful applications. Whether any particular incentive scheme achieves long term success depends initially on the thoroughness with which the current working situation is reviewed, hence the need to re-look at some key Action Points, and question why you need an incentive scheme. 1. Increase in earnings for employees? 2. Increase in output? 3. Improv  (read full article)
