Article Title :: How To Read Your Spark Plug in a Two Stroke Engine

For a two-stroke engine, having a fresh spark plug is incredibly important. So you should check your plug often.By "reading" the color of the plug you can tell a lot of things about how the engine is running. The top of a new spark plug is covered in white ceramic insulation. If your engine is running perfectly, then this part of the plug would soon become a tan color. If your plug is grey or white, than you know that your engine is running too lean and you need to take steps to prevent engine damage. First, clean your fuel system, looking for any blockage. Dirt in your carb can cause the bike to run lean. Check your fuel mixture to see if you are mixing the oil and fuel in the cor  (read full article)

Article Title :: Overdrive Sprocket Pulley Installation on a Victory Kingpin

I own a Victory Kingpin motorcycle. My Kingpin is a 2004 model with 5 speeds. With this bike being labeled a cruiser I found that at highway speeds, I needed to shift a lot when the engine speed dropped below a certain rpms. This was annoying because I just wanted to stay at 70 mph in fifth gear and cruise. The OD pulley is actually IMHO an overdrive gear. It is the front "pulley" or final drive gear on the transmission out put / drive shaft. It is not a rear pulley and therefore does not impact the belt guard or any other external part.I decided to purchase one of these aftermarket overdrive pulleys. Labor at a dealer would be between 1.5 and 2.0 hours at their labor rate. I dec  (read full article)

Article Title :: What Automobile Drivers Should Know about Motorcycles

This article will discuss the characteristics of motorcycles in everyday traffic situations. Automobile drivers, also known as Cagers, need to be aware that a motorcyclist will often slow down their motorcycle by downshifting or by simply rolling off the throttle. What this means is that the brake light is not activated. Given this knowledge, we advise that motorists allow more following distance to give motorcyclists and yourself more room to maneuver. Common sense also dictates that you predict a motorcyclist may slow down at intersections without visual warning.Motorcyclists use both their turn signals and hand motions to announce a lane change or turn. Some motorcyclist forgets  (read full article)

Article Title :: Burt Munro: The Indian Speed Legend Of New Zealand

There are probably thousands of self-taught backyard mechanics just like the late Burt Munro, who maybe work for years on inventions and projects that end up being unsuccessful and yield little in the way of financial reward, but does that really matter, some may argue that without financial reward you cannot move forward.Sometimes the personal reward & self-satisfaction gained through painstaking project success is a far greater reward than any financial gain. Financial reward is often not the panacea of success that so many people are conditioned to accept today.Think about the weeks, perhaps months of work that Burt Munro would have spent making his own engine barrels,  (read full article)

Don't let the excitement of your new purchase overwhelm your good sense. A new pocket bike must be broken in correctly if you want the bike to function correctly. If you do not take the proper steps, you will dramatically decrease your engine's life. Opinions vary significantly on the correct way to break in a bike. We will discuss two widespread methods to break a pocket bike in. The most common method is often called "heat cycling." Heat cycling means you run the engine at idle or barely above idle for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. After this time the engine will be right below the normal operating temperature. Then you turn the engine off and let the bike cool down. Once the engine is  (read full article)
