Article Title :: Movie Industry Asks Grandpa for $600,000 for Four Movies

A 67-year-old man was sued by the movie industry for his 12 year old grandson's movie downloads. Apparently, the kid downloaded four movies - three of which they already owned. For this, the movie industry asked for a settlement of four thousand dollars. When the man refused, mainly because he didn't have four grand, they then sued for $600,000 to make an example of the poor old guy. Personally, I think it is an outrage that legal technicalities would be placed above human beings. Hollywood is always big on raising taxes to support the poor, but download their movies and they'll take grandpa and grandson out. I know they don't want people watching their movies for free, I get that, but ho  (read full article)

Article Title :: What Viewers Really Think about TV Antique Shows: An Intelligent Perspective

So there we have it. The previous articles provided a brief snapshot of The Antiques Roadshow, US style, through the lens of the viewing public. One may not consider them the most discerning bunch but they speak from the heart and they represent a reasonable cross section of this audience. Nevertheless, there are a few sharp and pithy observations camouflaged within this site that deserve more than just an acknowledgement in passing.“I have not watched a moment of this show since that woman came on with her hideous folk art jug that she got at a garage sale for $25 and it was worth over $50,000! The only bigger idiot than someone who would pay $25 for that ugly piece of yuck   (read full article)

Article Title :: What Viewers Really Think About TV Antique Shows: An American Perspective

If you want to get a real insight into the watchability – or otherwise – of the TV antique show genre, look no further than www.jumptheshark.com. This site dissects in often gruesome detail the reasons viewers switch off various television programmes and, as a platform for savage wit and character assassination, it’s hard to beat. BBCA may, indeed, offer entertainment value on its boards but it pales into insignificance opposite the shark. Our American friends are renowned for their ability to tell it like it is, or isn’t, and this vox pop represents a fascinating demographic into the nature of collecting today. Some comments are very flattering and an ample body of viewers   (read full article)

Article Title :: What Viewers Really Think About TV Antique Shows: A Female Perspective

If you really want to get a feel for opinion on the street, there can be few better pit stops than the message boards from BBC America where the entertainment value is a good deal higher than the shows themselves. The comments are not confined to The Antiques Roadshow alone as there is a burgeoning interest in Flog It, Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic too. The most revealing aspect, in more ways than one, is the unerring focus on the personal attributes of the presenters by female viewers. There really is no end of drooling and these ladies let it all hang out, so to speak. There are no less than thirty five postings on the accent of Bargain Hunt presenter, Paul Hayes, one of which rela  (read full article)

Article Title :: Top Ten Reasons David Letterman Always Wears White Sox

There are three talk shows that I watch on television, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. (I now also watch The Colbert Report. with Stephen Colbert.)Stewart comes on too late for me, but I can catch it several times the next day along with Colbert. In our area, Leno starts at 10:35 p.m. and Letterman comes on at 11:05 p.m. Why they come on at these times instead of 10:00 and 11:00 is a mystery to me. I would just like to say that it really tees me off. I guess I'm picky, picky!Jay LenoI watch Leno the first half hour of his show and then Letterman the firs  (read full article)

Article Title :: Is the Traditional TV Antique Show Format Losing its Value in an eBay World?

It is puzzling that there is such a dearth of home grown talent in the US to capitalise on the level of interest in this genre. Virtually every programme is imported or adapted from the UK so there are variants, as I intimated earlier, of Bargain Hunt, Flog It, Cash in the Attic and, of course, The Antiques Roadshow. There are many others from the same stable, some of which may yet sink mid Atlantic, so don’t be surprised to see offerings such as Car Boot Challenge, Car Booty, Sun, Sea and Bargain Spotting and, in what must be a classic case of product placement, The 20th Century Antiques Roadshow. Given that Americans have so little history in the traditional sense, the latter seems ta  (read full article)

Article Title :: Great Expectations - An Extraordinary Movie

This Tuesday I was fortunate enough to see the movie “Great Expectations”. This is the one of best Hollywood movies which I have ever seen. This movie shows the great art of work. Every character in it has worked to its peak. Every actor has absorbed himself so beautifully with the characters of movie. Everything looks so real that it is happening to them. Every thing is wonderful its acting, direction, screen play and story. Emotions are displayed with great skills. These all features make the movie a great work. Very few movies are able to do this. This is not the work of a single person, but the well done work of many. Every person associated with the movie has done justice t  (read full article)
