And you know, as well as I, that exposure is the name of the game these days. Even though the world-wide web has opened up many new possibilites for the independent artist, the competition can be fearsome. It will provide the publicity necessary for people to know who you are, so that your music will get heard. In order to make the best first impression on your readers, your press release sho  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Increase your ideas, increase your traffic, and boost profits...all for free!

Listen. This is vitally important. If you do not listen then your track will be very poor indeed. Listening is what most musicians have forgot to do and that is why we do not hear from them again. They have lost their roots, what ultimately made them famous. Trying to move away from your group roots is very risky. The Prodigy made fantastic rave and deep techno, then starting to go into a rock phase. It didn't work out too well, now they are trying to get back into their old territory but its hard. Their fan-base has shrunk as new groups have come up. The Prodigy are now releasing their classic hits to try and re-energise themselves to grab back their old fans, telling   (read full article)

 Article Title :: Adding Chords to a Melody

You've written a great melody, but you don't know what chords to use to accompany yourself when you play it. What do you do? Adding chords to melodies can be fun, if you know a bit about how chords work. Try the following steps: a. It's important to think about strong beats and weak beats with regard to your new melody. Sing your melody and try to get a sense of where the pulses happen. As you sing, you'll notice your toe automatically tapping... that's a good sign! For many melodies, you'll find that the first beat will feel like a strong pulse and the next one will be a bit weaker. It's on the strong beat that the chords will change. Let's take the melody, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Pope Bush and The Dixie Chick Prophets

Natalie Maines is a singer with the popular country group The Dixie Chicks. Natalie was born in Lubbock Texas. Shortly before the Iraq War began Natalie said in London that she was ashamed that President Bush was from Texas, because she opposed the idea of the United States invading Iraq. As a result of this comment, Natalie faced scorching criticism and even death threats from the American media and public. American country music stations vilified her and refused to play the Dixie Chicks music. Americans boycotted their albums. The Salem witch hunt forced her to apologize to the President. More interestingly, on Nov. 21, 2003, two years ago, Natalie said on NBC's Today show, "I think peopl  (read full article)

 Article Title :: How to Select Quality Royalty Free Music

Purchasing music for use as production music for film, television and video projects, or as background music for different projects and companies as well as music on-hold for personal and professional telephone systems can be a time-consuming and very expensive endeavor. Because many businesses do not have the money to spend on on-going music royalties, many are turning to libraries of royalty free music to fulfill their many musical needs. While royalty free music is certainly a convenient and inexpensive option for those in search of bulk music for their restaurants, not all royalty free music is created equal. Music from major providers such as Award Winning Music is an affordable and p  (read full article)

 Article Title :: The Secret History Of Drums: The Role Of The Military Drummer

The role of the military drummer is a fascinating chapter from the hidden history of drums. Hidden, because most people are unaware of the vital role played by the military drummer in communicating strategy and keeping the machinery of battle oiled. Battle Stations In the 17th century, in preparation for battle, before the head on clash between rival armies, considerable time was spent manoeuvering men into position. The drums were used to convey orders - each 'beat' having a specific meaning instantly recognisable to the soldiers. When the drummer's 'Call' was heard, the men dropped what they were doing and immediately regrouped by their lieutenant or platoon commande  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Propel Interview

Propel is a band out of San Francisco, California, fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Peter Kasen. Propel will be playing here in San Antonio New Year's Eve on the Riverwalk (Peter hasn't gotten all the details yet, but I'm guessing it's part of "Celebrate San Antonio"). Peter was kind enough to agree to do an e-mail interview with me so that SA could learn a little about Propel. Do you remember the moment when you first decided that writing and playing music was what you wanted to do with your life? The first moments I realized that songwriting and music were what I wanted for my life and for a career were early in High School, with my first band BluRr. We sold 100   (read full article)
