 Article Title :: Stéphane Pompougnac Delivers Sexy Beatz With Hotel Costes Volume 6

Hotel Costes, Vol. 6 kick starts things right off with In The Black Of The Night by Slow Train. It's a beautiful, soulful, jazzy track with excellent female vocals. We then head off to Reality Check by Stigmato Inc. Not one of my favorite tracks on here but still OK. It gets thing ready for the next track called Metropolitan by Emmanuel Santarromana. An amazing track with the beautiful sounds of the accordion. I'm not sure what language it is but I think it could be Italian. Right after that track things really start moving with Surround Me With Your Love (Mental Overdrive Mix) by 311 Porter. This track is a Spanish/Latin flavored piece with enough energy to set the dance floor on fire yet   (read full article)

 Article Title :: Newstalgia Music

Some of you have undoubtedly heard the term, (as applied to music) some haven't. I don't know if it's a regional term, I hear it mostly from entertainers, club patrons, etc. The first time I heard the term, I assumed the word was made up by the user (a guitar player from Orlando.) I later heard it used in casual conversation from some club patrons in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. >From what I gather, newstalgia music is a genre consisting of two types of music; 'updated covers' of fifties and sixties hits (versions that are not complete note-for-note recreations,) or new songs that capture the feel of the fifties and sixties. Many national artists have recorded newstalgia songs, often th  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Recording; the Price of Memories

If you make a habit of salivating over vintage recording gear, wince at the price, and secretly wish you lived in the the 'good old days' when every recording studio was full of these fat sounding cool pieces of equipment, remember to include being born rich as part of your dream. Before the advent of the digital age and cheap consumer electronics, the phrase "I'm going into the studio' had a reverence in the music business. The recording studio was a remote unobtainable dream for most musicians, and for a very good reason. It was expensive. Really expensive. Studio gear was expensive, therefore, studio time was very high. In the early 70's, from 40-75 dollars an hour for a good local 16 t  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Interview with Eric McConnell

Ran into Eric McConnell over there on MySpace and he was kind enough to agree to do an interview with me, so here it is! OK, let's start with the basics. Tell me about your music. Haha...you say "the basics" and hit me with the hardest question first....I'm a Blues, Funk and old R&B guy with a guilty pleasure for Rock..haha. During a live show we play a mix of everything. From Stevie Wonder and Al Green to modern rock and my original stuff. When I write, it's a bit different. I'm very aware of song structures and the importance of getting your point across quickly. My first solo album that's in the works now is actually more Rock based with some Blues highlights. I'm actually plann  (read full article)

 Article Title :: iPod Nano vs iPod Shuffle

The iPod Nano is the newest digital audio player from Apple. It received an overwhelming welcome when it was released on September 7, 2005 and quickly sold out completely in many Apple Stores. The iPod Nano combines features from both iPod shuffle and the standard iPod, and replaces the iPod mini. (The iPod mini was discontinued as soon as iPod Nano had been released.) Compared to the iPod shuffle, the iPod Nano is equipped with a considerably larger flash memory despite being much smaller physically. The first launch included two types of iPod Nano - the 2GB and the 4GB. The 4GB iPod Nano is capable of storing up to 1000 songs. Since the iPod Nano is smaller than the full sized iPods, s  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Songwriter Confessions #5

The ghost of Bob Dylan breezed into the studio this week and touched me on the shoulder. Lyrically, Bobby Zim has always been right up there, although melodically he's down here with the rest of us. I played in a folk group in the 60s around Britain and in France and my mental repertoire of folk music often helped me in spotting melodies that ole Bob had borrowed from the folkies. For instance: the melody of Bob Dylan's 115th Dream is a direct lift of a 19th century whaling song called Brave Franklin (and His Gallant Crew). But music is full of coincidences: ever notice that the verse chords and melody of the Bellamy Bros' If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body and the Eagles' Lying Eyes are ex  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Jam Band Writing Journals - Track Your Shows

Following jam bands is a blast because of the music, places you see and cool people you meet. Jam band journals are great ways to keep track of your shows. Jam Band Journals Undoubtedly, the Grateful Dead was the greatest jam band in history, but others such as String Cheese Incident have carried on the tradition. Whatever your favorite band is, think back to the last show you saw. What sticks out in your mind? Now think about the first time you ever saw the band. Do you remember the set, people you met and so on? Probably not. The experiences you've forgotten are lost to time. If you had kept a jam band journal, this wouldn't be the case. There are famous instances of people keeping jou  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Indie Artists Meet Clear Channel Execs

"What does it cost to get a record on the charts?" The question was directed to Mike McVay, programming consultant to about 400 radio stations owned by media giant Clear Channel. A hush fell over the audience, as this was a piece of information that could determine the fate of independent artists everywhere. McVay pulled no punches. Depending on your genre, the amount is "a hundred thousand dollars up to a quarter of a million." And suddenly, the economic reality of the airplay portion of the record business was in full view. In a different part of the day's event, someone asked another of those all-important, career-shaping questions: "How many slots are typically available to independ  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Randall Flagg: Unique Jersey Metal

The members of RANDALL FLAGG may look like your typical New Jersey guys, but once the band's vehement sound-a seamless blend of hardcore and death metal-begins blasting from the stage, it's apparent they're an extraordinary crew. Unabashedly in-your-face, and yet melodic, the band's heavy, carefully structured, technical songs deliver the emotional wallop and carnal assault that has been garnering raves from New York and New Jersey venues and a hearty, devoted fan base. The multi-talented crew has continued to evolve since forming in 1999-not in only in its sound, but in its line-up. Consisting of high school pals Adam Browning (vocals), Ryan Fleming (guitar) and Babak "Bob" Davodian (bass  (read full article)
