Article Title :: Anglican Arrogance: Small-Minded Choirmembers

What is "Episcopal" music? We often hear people express concern about losing ties to our Anglican heritage, which dates back about 500 years. One area that draws attention is music. To approach the question of what is official Episcopal music, we might look to our own denominational hymnbook, The Episcopal Hymnal (1982). Compiled by the Standing Commission on Church Music, this edition surely reflects what is both traditional and sanctioned. A brief sampling of selections from TEH ‘82 should shed some light on what is authorized and what is not.First, a survey of origins will be useful. Of the 726 hymns in this book, several are Gregorian chan  (read full article)

Article Title :: Busking at Clapham Common Station

My mother told me "Buy yourself a lot of beautiful dresses in London!". So I decided to patrol the Covent Garden area this time. I wanted to see a pair of shops of which I had visited the websites. My inspiration for shopping was not at its top walking down Long Acre... I tried something but the size or the price did not fit me. I finally reached "Arrogant Cat" on Monmouth Street and I found it quite "could be my style", but not enough to buy something this season. In the meanwhile big drops of water started falling on my little streetmap, which soon became spotted and my stomach stroke noon, so I decided to stop at a Pret a Manger on the way and think about my "what to do's" in front of a   (read full article)

Article Title :: Another Bullet in the Cake?

Another bullet in the cake? No, this time I eat the cake. I finally saw "Hate Rock" the long awaited - actually 23 hours download - documentary about us. The presentation of the documentary seems much harder than what the video says in reality. Before watching this video I asked for impressions to people who saw it on the cable in the US and all their comments have been very negative. I was caught days ago while answering to some questions on the phone. I classified this documentary as antifascist propaganda, because this is what it seems reading the introduction on the websites (SMG productions and Discovery Times) and this is how people described the show to me. I have to say instead, aft  (read full article)

Article Title :: Fascist rocker loses her job!

January 2006 - Italy is living the bitter climate of political campaign. Left and right don't waste blows and all the occasions are good to weaken the enemy. An Italian (maybe) left-wing activist writes an article about a British documentary on TV about right-wing hate rock and one of its protagonists, Viking, loses her job. He's called Lycantrop. His article arrived directly to Viking's boss, before being published somewhere. Nobody knows how he got the address and the real name! This is how a few hours later Francesca Ortolani aka Viking, 23 year old video editor working for an American film maker and productions company, was dismissed. We don't know much about Francesca's boss. She gr  (read full article)

Article Title :: Piano Lesson: Why Do You Want To Grow As A Pianist?

1. Why do you want to grow as a pianist? My youngest daughter don't like when I say that she is five years old. She replies that she is five years and a half. Children want to grow up even if we sometimes like them to remain the little cute beings that we are used to lift up and kiss and mess around with. I guess this also is true with pianists like you and me. The act of learning new things on the piano, new chords, new melodies, new scales and other things is similar to the feeling of being alive. 2. How can you grow as a pianist? It is important to have something to improve upon in your piano playing. An old person to me is someone who doesn't want to learn things anymore. To have th  (read full article)

Article Title :: Change Your Life With This Song!

Remember that song ìDust in the Wind?î You may think it funny but some of the biggest mysteries of life are written into the lyrics of that song. Yes, it may be awkward to name a pop song as a tome for the wise, but to come to think of it, the song does make sense ñ enough sense that if you really look deep into the lyrics you could learn a thing or two that would change your life. And from these lessons you could synthesize a few more rules that will change your outlook towards life and could make your life a whole lot better. 1. We are Dust in the Wind - Here Today, Gone Tomorrow ñ Youth can make us feel invincible. However, we are not. No matter how you look at it, there will always  (read full article)

Article Title :: Song Writing: Why Is Completing Your Songs Important?

Do you find it easy to write songs? Too easy? Well, I at least have had a problem with this. If you would visit our home and my garage you would find a lot of unfinished songs and a lot of manuscript paper with some notes on them showing that I wanted to say something with music but never finished it. Maybe you always finish your songs, record them or have well documented lists with your songs for easy access. That's the way I work now but obviously didn't work before. Nowadays I have started to realize the importance of finishing songs that I have found enough important to start writing in the first place.
