Article Title :: Juices Are Not Health Foods

Contrary to the ads that you may see on television, juices are not more healthful than whole fruits or vegetables. How can an extract from food be more healthful than that food? For some people, they are much less healthful. For example, a glass of orange juice contains about one tenth as much fiber as an orange and twice the calories. Diabetics shouldn't drink fruit juices because they drive blood sugar levels too high, nor should people who are trying to lose weight drink fruit juices because a rise in sugar calls out extra insulin that makes you hungry.Don't be fooled by juices that claim that they supply 100 percent of your daily needs for vitamin C and A. Most drinks that can   (read full article)

Article Title :: 10 Top (plus 2!) EnergyRich Foods for 2006

While there are seemingly endless ways to increase your energy and stay on track with your weight new, here's a list of my favorite 10 (plus 2 bonus) foods that will help you with both. Which ones are YOU using?Print this out and check those you already do, and note those you should "give some attention to." ___ 1. Water – sipped throughout the day. Consistent sipping over random gulping keeps your kidneys thoroughly hydrated. If your kidneys are not hydrated your liver has to step in and take over “de-toxing” and isn’t fully available to perform it’s main duty: metabolizing fat into energy. Less energy, more fat for you. ___ 2. Green T  (read full article)

Article Title :: Green Tea vs Black Tea - Which Is Better?

Which tea is better - green tea or black tea? As we all know, green tea is a very powerful weapon against several illnesses. But how about black tea? Do we also get health benefits from it?Black tea does have several health benefits but they are not nearly as wide-ranging and powerful as those of green tea.But what makes green tea more beneficial than black tea?The answer is "catechins"! Catechins are green tea's main ingredient containing eight times more than black tea. Catechins are, by the way, the one responsible for green tea's amazing health benefits.Bottom line is that the more catechins a tea has, the better it is for your general health.Unfortu  (read full article)

Article Title :: Green Tea Has Just The Right Amount Of Caffeine With No Side Effects

Green tea caffeine does not make you jittery or nervous. If you're looking for a coffee or soda substitute with just the right amount of caffeine enough to keep you awake and energized without the nervousness, chronic muscle tension, irritability, headaches, depression, and insomnia, Japanese Green Tea is exactly what you've been looking for.Japanese Green Tea offers the best of both worlds when it comes to caffeine -- just enough to provide a stimulating pick-me-up that banishes unwanted drowsiness, but not enough to trigger nervousness or sleepless nights.Ever since eight-century Buddhist monks discovered that tea helped them remain awake during long meditation sessions, t  (read full article)

Article Title :: How Refined Carbohydrates Can Harm You

I advise my diabetic patients and people who are trying to lose weight to avoid all foods made with refined carbohydrates because they cause a high rise in blood sugar. Even if you are not diabetic (yet) and are not concerned about your weight (yet), you should understand why the large amounts of refined carbohydrates in the typical Western diet can harm you.Refined sugars and refined grain products (anything made from flour, milled corn or white rice) have had vitamins, minerals and other nutrients removed in processing. Some but not all of these nutrients may be added back in enriched flours or fortified foods. From 1600 to 1930, more North Americans died from the vitamin   (read full article)

Article Title :: Soybeans: Too Much of a Good Thing?

The soybean industry has generated so much publicity on the health benefits of soybeans that some people eat soy products at every meal. That's a mistake, because too much of anything can be harmful.Virtually all plants contain some chemicals that make us healthy and some chemicals that can harm us. Fortunately for us, our ancestors picked out plants that contain more good chemicals and therefore are healthful, and taught us to avoid those that are poisonous. However, if you eat large amounts of one food, you can poison yourself, even though reasonable amounts are harmless or beneficial.Soybeans are a good example. Soybeans contain genistein, a weak estrogen that may help to  (read full article)

Article Title :: Sugar is Sugar; Honey is Not More Healthful

Many health writers make the topic of sugar so complicated that nobody can understand it. It's very simple. Sugar is sugar is sugar. Your body treats the sugar in an apple the same way that it treats all other sources of sugar. The difference is that an apple also contains fiber that slows the rise of blood sugar after you eat it.Some people believe that honey is more healthful than sugar. They tell us that honey is a quicker source of energy and a richer source of minerals, and is less fattening. All of these clams are nonsensical. As far as your body is concerned, there is no difference between honey and table sugar. Honey contains two simple sugars called glucose and fructose. T  (read full article)

Article Title :: Why You Need More Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Fat is classified into saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, and monounsaturated fats. Saturated fats are believed to increase your risk for heart attacks when you take in more calories than you burn. We used to think that all polyunsaturated fats help to prevent heart attacks when they replace saturated fats, but now we have different information. Polyunsaturated fats are classified by their structures into omega-3s and omega-6s, and you need both types; these are called the essential fatty acids because you cannot make them in your body and must get them from your food. For most of the time humans have been on earth we have eaten foods containing omega-6's and omega-3's in a ratio  (read full article)

Article Title :: Brighten up your Morning with Carnation Instant Breakfast!

Starting your day with a Carnation Instant Breakfast drink is a great way to stay healthy and energized for the morning. Carnation Instant Breakfast is an easy-to-make, quick, and nutritious drink that pumps your body with protein, carbohyrates, and essential vitamins and minerals. I began drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast two weeks ago. Immediatley, I fell in love with the product for its quick nature and ease of use. In fact, I made sure that I drank at least three glasses of this drink a day. The nutrition drink did not fill my stomach up completely, so I casually drink it while having a bowl of raisin bran or something else for breakfast. Carnation Instant Breakfast comes in three   (read full article)
