North Portugal's golf is a hit with Brits:
"Links that make you think, spectacular mountain courses and
hospitality fit for a gentleman´s Club" - Ian Pemble finds value
for money in Oporto, North Portugal".
Although I went to North Portugal to play some golf, two of the
best things about the trip had nothing to do with the Royal and
Ancient game.
The first is that Ryanair fly there from Stansted. Not the most
convenient airport for the West Country admittedly, but cheap as
chips. At Porto the airline has made part of the terminal its
very own, complete with cafe/bar, Duty free shop and so on.
The other reason is that my trip was arranged by an English
businessman based in Porto called (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Reuse those Old 5 Gallon Buckets |
| |
|
Think about those old Buckets...... Save Your Joint- -Compound
buckets, that is. Seriously, those extremely common, ubiquitous,
you could say, 5-gallon polyethylene buckets are IDEAL for
landscape and gardening work. Thick-walled, heavy duty buckets
are worth at least 6 dollars apiece. Save your lid. Another pun,
but seriously, don't only save the pail, save the container's
lid too. At least, try to save some lids. You'll be glad you did
too when toting water and when you want to seal a container on
occasion. Watch for what gets left as residue. We're being too
"punny" yet again, right? But this is important when you
consider the cleanup. Find any five gallon bucket when you can
and consid (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Water Gardens - Plan Before You Dig |
| |
|
Across North America there are more and more homeowners desiring
to add a water garden or backyard pond to their landscape. While
this may seem like a great idea, it takes time and planning to
get it right. Depending on the area, the size, and the budget of
the homeowner, exceptional quality back yard ponds can be
created. Be careful, though. Poor planning and poor installation
of any pond may end up costing a lot more than original
expectations and can also have a long term negative effect on
your landscape.
The process to design a garden pond or water garden can be
tricky. You can not just go out there and dig it out. No,
instead, you need to properly prepare the dimensions and plan

| Article Title :: Big Northerns Through The Ice |
| |
|
There is nothing quite like the thrill of pulling a trophy
northern pike through the ice. Big northerns are not only an
open water phenomena. They are one of my favorite ice fishing
targets. As an ice fisherman I love the thrill of seeing that
huge 'gator' head fill the hole. I've learned a few lessons over
the years. However the tough part is, we typically learn the
most from our failures, not our successes, and that also holds
true for ice fishing for big northern pike. With a proper game
plan and the right equipment you can set yourself up to put some
beautiful fish up on the ice. There is not a lot to it, but you
do need to create a game plan that will give you the highest
opportunity p (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Exploring the Wilds of Trinidad |
| |
| While most visitors to this large Caribbean island associate Port of Spain as the “tourist attraction” with all it’s revelry surrounding Carnival – truly the islands largest party (called limin’ in trini-speak). But stray off the beaten path and you will find a wealth of natural attractions. We found one such place at the Point-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust – a wetland habitat and peaceful haven where visitors may relax and enjoy bird watching. This unique situation of industry and conservation working side by side can also be utilized as an educational resource for clubs, schools and nature groups. It encompasses over 60 acres and two lakes within a large petrochemical complex – (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Ultralight Sleeping Bags - How Light Are They? |
| |
| Why ultralight sleeping bags? Because ultralight backpacking is only made possible by cutting the weight of the "big three;" the backpack, shelter and sleeping bag. The days of five-pound summer bags are gone - at least for those of us who prefer to go light. One Pound Ultralight Sleeping BagsThere are several one-pound ultralight sleeping bags on the market now. My own is 17 ounces. It actually weighs 19 ounces with the stuff sack, but stuff sacks aren't always necessary. It can be stuffed directly into my pack or put in a half-ounce bread bag. It's a down sleeping bag, and has kept me warm down to below freezing - warmer, in fact, than my four-pound bag used to keep (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Silent Night, Noisy Night |
| |
| Our new life as fulltimers brought me an unexpected challenge—getting a good night's sleep. Being a very light sleeper, RV life has cost me many restless nights and prompted me to seek out a solution. In our previous fixed foundation home, disturbances had been fewer and my sleep more restful. On the other hand, recreational vehicle living exposes the occupants to more disturbances due to the lighter construction and the surroundings. Having lived in our fifth wheel for over a year, I have found solutions for reducing some of the disturbances which have kept me up at night.NOISEBy far, the most disruptive are the various noises surrounding the RV lifestyle. | Article Title :: Tarp Shelters For Ultralight Backpackers |
| |
| Why use tarp shelters? The biggest reason ultralight backpackers use them is to reduce pack weight. The lightest tent you can find will be close to three pounds. Some of the newest ultralight tarps weigh just seven ounces.Weight isn't the only advantage of tarp shelters, though. They also give you room to move, and you can easily look around. You can quickly take them down when you're ready to go. If it's wet, just shake it off and it will fit in an outside pocket of your backpack. Even if they were the same weight, I'd still prefer a tarp over a tent for most trips. The lightest of my own tarp shelters weighs 16 ounces with all the strings. That seems heavy now, when I look (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Marina Coatings to Protect from Environmental Spills of Fuel and Oil |
| |
| Boats in Marinas often leak a little and whatever leaks ends up in the water. When walking on the docks at the Marina you will notice the shiny stuff on the water; this is pollution and should obviously not be there. We must be careful not to hurt the local surrounding sea life, birds and fish, because they are all part of the eco-system and food chain. If we eat fish, which feed on polluted waters and other creatures, which have taken in this pollution, we too are affected in a negative way.The environment is proving to be quite resilient indeed. Yet, we want to enjoy our Lakes, rivers and oceans since it is a place for boaters, fishing and fun. It is a shame to see our water so o (read full article) |
