 Article Title :: Cheap Backpacks
Cheap backpacks can be made, but I don't recommend it. Unless you are extremely skilled at sewing, it isn't likely to come out like you want. Also, even if you are an expert, it will probably take less of your time to pick up an extra day at work and buy a pack with the earnings.On the other hand, if you have an old backpack frame, you can make a cheap backpack with it. Remove the old pack, and tie a plain nylon duffel bag to it firmly, with the zipper facing out. Small bungee cords will work for attaching it too. I did this using an old aluminum frame that still had straps and a waist belt, and for the cost of a $15 duffel bag, I had an external-frame backpack that not only held a  (read full article)

 Article Title :: An African Adventure on Horseback
It was to be my first excursion on horseback for, well more years than I care to remember and I certainly didnt want to remember my last experience at the tender age of 17, on a bolting horse down a muddy track with overhanging trees and a fence at the end of the track leading directly onto a main road.Anyway, enough of the ancient past this was a holiday that was going to be a relaxing time as my partner was the one who wanted the riding. I was going to sunbathe, swim do a little fishing maybe.The arrival into Johannesburg was uneventful although the security in the airport was a shock and one that I did not expect. During the transfer to the riding centre in the Waterburg   (read full article)

 Article Title :: Touch and be Touched by Mother Earth at Hierve el Agua near Oaxaca, Mexico
When you go to Oaxaca, immerse yourself in Hierve el Agua.Arriving at the Hierve el Agua park, it isn’t obvious what a special treat you are in for, though the environment is pleasant enough. There is a semi-shaded parking area, bathrooms, bath houses for changing into swim suits, stands to purchase foods, and even cabins to stay the night. Behind the stands are a pleasant swimming pool and a map of the trails through the park.Hierve el Agua means “where the water boils,” and refers less to the temperature of the water there and more to the action of the water. When I first began walking down the well-trodden path on the loop trail, I knew we were in for a special t  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Richard Branson Blown Away by Squamish BC
Richard Branson , world renowned adventurer, extreme sports enthusiast and entrepreneur, was incredibly impressed with his first visit to Squamish BC, The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada. “This place is amazing! I’m definitely coming back some time to do more kite surfing!” exclaimed Branson after a 40 minute kite surfing ride in strong winds off the Squamish Spit against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and the monolithic rock climbing playground of the Stawamus Chief.Of course, this was not only a chance for Richard Branson to get out and have some fun.  Article Title :: The Hunting Safari: A Means of Conservation in the Selous Game
The Selous Game reserve is internationally recognized as one of best managed areas in Africa. Poaching in this reserve is minimal and animal populations including Elephants are thriving. What is the storey behind this success? This was not always the storey for this area – once the Selous Game Reserve was under threat from the blight of the poachers.The Selous Game Reserve is huge with only a small section of the park used for photography safaris and another section used for hunting safaris. Many people, including myself, have a hard time understanding that the hunting safari is a good thing for conservation. However, if it were not for the hunting safari the Selous would be a  (read full article)

 Article Title :: Total Eclipse of the Sun Expected in March
A total solar eclipse, one of the earth's most unique phenomena is when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, its shadow hitting the Earth and blocking out the Sun. If you're lucky enough to be in the path taken by the centre of that shadow, the Moon will align itself exactly with the sun, blocking it entirely and you'll see a total eclipse. Outside of the path of totality, although a staggering 95% of the Sun is still obscured, the effect of the eclipse is not nearly so vivid - just a quiet, still, evening dusk-like effect. These were the conditions most of us experienced during our 'once in a lifetime' eclipse over the UK mainland on 11 August 1999, with the next   (read full article)

 Article Title :: In the Woods
I went for a glorious walk in the woods near my house today. Interestingly, I have lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years, but it was just a few months ago that I discovered this fabulous treasure right outside my door.I’ve always enjoyed the paved walking trails that crisscross through my neighborhood’s greenbelt. Often I saw mountain bikers emerging from the woods, and I wondered about the trails back there. But since I didn’t know where the trails led, I never went into those woods. After all, I might get lost. A mountain biker might run me over. It might not be safe. So I stuck to the paved trails and thoroughly enjoyed myself.But a few months ago my friend D  (read full article)
