Article Title :: Travel to Croatia: Cheap Flights, Ferries, and Buses to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split, and Istria
Croatia's Dalmatian coast has become one of Europe's most exciting destinations but getting there can be tricky. If you're coming from outside Europe, be aware that there are no direct flights from North America to Croatia. You'll need to make a stop in another European city for a flight to Croatia. Fortunately there are more and more routes opening up. If you're coming from Italy however, the best bet is usually to take a ferry to Croatia. That's what most Italians do which is why there are more ferries than flights from Italy to Croatia. In travelling to Croatia, there are four main entry points: Dubrovnik, Istria, Split and Zagreb. Let's take them in order.Travel t  (read full article)

Article Title :: Olympic National Park - Green As Can Be
If you love the color green, Olympic National Park is for you. Located in the State of Washington, this park is simply beautiful. With plenty of rain throughout the year, the park is in a constant state of insanely beautiful green. Much bigger than it first appears, Olympic spreads over 900,000 acres. The geography ranges from coastline to thick forest to mountains capped with glaciers. Much of the park is classified as a rain forest, which means you’ll need a coat to handle the cool temperatures most of the time. This is made up, however, by waterfalls that pour off of cliff faces into pools of crystal clear water.Located roughly two hours outside of Seattle, Olympic Nati  (read full article)

Article Title :: Kenai Fjords National Park - Stunning Views
Every once in a while, Mother Nature produces a masterpiece that simply leaves you breathless. Kenai Fjords National Park is one such masterpiece.Kenai FjordsLocated in Alaska, Kenai Fjords National Park is simply stunning. A seemingly peaceful location, the park can be extremely active geologically. We’re talking glaciers, mountains and untamed wilds.Classified a national park in 1980, Kenai Fjords has been a geological catch for scientists and people alike. The park is situated on the edge of two tectonic plate intersections. Specifically, where the Pacific Plate is slowly being pushed under the North American Plate. There is an obscene amount of geological tensio  (read full article)

Article Title :: How I Ended the Drought
You don’t need to live in the southwestern part of the United States very long to understand the importance of water. Much of the area is desert and for the past 8 years or so, the rest has been as dry as a desert. However, a year ago that changed. Weather systems started to show up with regularity to drop massive amounts of rain, hail and snow over California, Nevada, Arizona and the rest of the southwest. But what brought about this climate change? Was the change caused by those who rain dance? Was it El Nino? La Nina? Tsunami? I don’t think so. I believe the drought of the past decade has ended because of one reason—me.Actually, the drought has ended due to my m  (read full article)

Article Title :: Stepping Outdoors is Very Exciting
What could possible happen in six simple steps? That’s how far it is from my cabin’s front door to the propane grill. Six steps that I have taken countless times without any fanfare or concern. But things were different today and I’ll never look at this short trek without recalling how stepping outdoors can be very exciting. After a relaxing day of hiking in the Prescott National Forest with a good friend and my two Labrador retrievers, it was time for a refreshing beverage and some dinner. With steaks in hand, I headed for the trusty grill to burn some red meat just as darkness began to take hold. This was the first time in two days that my dogs weren’t on my heels –  (read full article)

Article Title :: Who is the Outdoor Guy?
I am The Outdoor Guy. I didn’t win a contest to get this name or lobby for the right to own it. I assumed the title. I doubt anyone will ever be able to take it away from me. No matter what happens, I will always be The Outdoor Guy – in my own mind. However, it is possible others won’t agree with me on this topic. Let me explain why I am convinced I am The Outdoor Guy.My childhood of scouting, bike riding, hanging around the cemetery at night and playing baseball equipped me with complete comfort whenever I was outside. As a youngster, I was always outdoors, always sun-burnt and for some reason my night vision was creepy good. I was more comfortable camping, fishing a  (read full article)

Article Title :: Black Bears, Blackberries and the Time of Your Life
I am an outdoor super-enthusiast and a technophile. I once thought this was a rare combination but just recently I’ve discovered there are lots of us around. I’m a little disappointed in this new discovery because I really wanted to be different but looking at the bright side, being a tech junkie has helped me to truly appreciate everything the outdoors has to offer. Let me try to explain. While hunting elk in Arizona a few years ago, I found myself alone in a high forest nearly ten miles from the pavement and about two miles from camp. I had decided to spend late afternoon and evening sitting beneath a forty foot pine tree and wait for an elk to walk by. This plan seemed i  (read full article)

Article Title :: Looks Like Another Monsoon Today
Summertime in Arizona isn’t complete without magnificent storms. It doesn’t take new residents long to learn the word “monsoon” or to learn how to spot a monsoon forming on the horizon in mid-afternoon. We have all said “well it looks like another monsoon today, we can really use the rain” at one time or another. But what is a monsoon and do we really need the rain?I admit, I had to look it up to learn its meaning. I always thought a monsoon was a massive storm where villages in Asia were washed into the sea and rain was measured in feet. It turns out that my definition of monsoon is one of a dozen different meanings of the word around the world, most of which incl  (read full article)

Article Title :: Here's Looking at you - Valley of the Sun!
I only know of one place on Terra Firma where I can see Casa Grande, Wickenburg, Apache Junction, Camelback Mountain and all of the Phoenix area and it is one of my favorite places in all of Arizona. Any guesses? It is smack-dab in the middle of our nation’s fifth largest metropolitan area. It’s the world’s largest municipal park with 17,000 acres of outdoor space, it is called South Mountain Park. There are a number of reasons I enjoy South Mountain Park but here are my top five. Number five: I love being able to travel less than one hour from my home and hike or bike on a National Trail feeling as if I’m in a very remote location. When I do this I am obviously aware   (read full article)

Article Title :: Banff - Lake Louise: Stunning Beauty and Nature At Its Best in the Canadian Rockies
For the first time ever, my husband and I are going to go skiing in the majestic Rocky Mountains: in March of 2006 we are going to go to stay a week in Banff, Alberta and we are also going to explore Lake Louise, the turquoise jewel of the Canadian Rockies. As we have never been to this region, I have started to do some research and contacted the official visitor information website for the communities of Banff and Lake Louise in Banff National Park.I had a chance to speak with Quintin Winks, Manager of Media Relations for Banff Lake Louise Tourism, who was able to provide me with excellent background information about the Banff / Lake Louise Region.1. Please provide us wi  (read full article)
