| |
| Are we as caring parents doing more harm than good by sitting down to teach our kids what we were taught from our school days? Mum and dads want the best for their kids and encourage them by dedicating their free time to help with their sums.
In some cases it is hard for the concerned parent to find quality time that is needed for their child/children to excel, reasons maybe due to working long hours to put a crust on the table.

| Article Title :: Youth Heroes – A Double Standard |
| |
| As a boy I danced and shook to the music of Elvis Presley along with the rest of the kids in my generation. I was shocked to hear how he died from the usage of drugs but even when I heard of his death I still was unable to gather the significance of it. IÂ’ve had decades to ponder the significance of it and I am sure it doesnÂ’t fall under the heading of good experiences from my childhood. It is less confusing than it was when I first heard of it but I am far too old now to just pass it off with a one word cover all like, tragedy.
It is far worse than tragedy, it is an experience that if not carefully examined and weighed would slip by without anyone noticing that it is a (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Parenting - It can be fun |
| |
| Like so many of us, in my early stages of parenthood I took a very traditional, mainstream approach to caring for my first-born. IÂ’m thrilled to say that today IÂ’ve grown. For the betterment and health of my children, I examined new ways of doing things. By listening, not only to my heart, but to my babies, and opening my mind to those around me willing to share their wisdom and experiences, I believe IÂ’ve created a bond with my children that will last a lifetime.
Because of this, I hope to share some of my misconceptions and solutions with others, in hope of enlightening them to truly examine their parenting options and methods, and ask themselves if they believe th (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Conflict Resolution for Pre-Schoolers |
| |
| When I began teaching straight out of college, I had much experience with children, but my degree was in political science. People used to ask me how my BA was useful in teaching nursery school, to which I often replied, “I do a lot of conflict resolution.” Since then I’ve received my Masters degree in Education, and my Political Science degree has been relegated to education for education’s sake, but conflict resolution remains a huge chunk of my professional life. Children have conflicts, and one of the important tasks of childhood is learning how to manage conflict successfully. Ideally, education in conflict resolution begins at pre-school age or even earlier. With (read full article) |

| Victim of the school bully
Many parents feel the pain for their bullied baby and feel helpless to make matters better either because the child is to afraid to name the perpetrators or denies blatantly that they are are a victim of abuse regardless of the bruises torn clothing and the fresh black eye every week.
Children wrapped up in their winter woollies for school because mum is protecting them from Jack Frost.
In summer mum's protect with sun block and then protection takes place again with a healthy lunchbox full of Jamie Oliver's goodies. But are we the parents protecting them the right way.

| Article Title :: Children of the 21st century |
| |
| The good old days as I remember them were just that, the good old days.
Children of the 21st century
Playing hopscotch hide and seek even a game of rounders was all in a day's fun for a thirteen year old in the good old days. Of course all good things come to an end when called in against your will and ordered up the stairs to wash behind your ears before bed, while the children of the 21st century slap on war paint to disguise their identities for approval into many disco night clubs. .
Succeeding in their mission to gain those added years they would then dance and party till dawn, while I remember back to my navy blue knickers and white vest hanging up to d (read full article) |

| Well mums and dads it looks like the days of the abacus is now a thing of the past. | Article Title :: When, What and How Do You Begin Teaching Your Preschooler |
| |
| A while back LeeAnn from Las Vegas asked my opinion on just when is the right time to begin teaching her 2-year-old daughter. She has already begun teaching basic concepts such as alphabet, colors, and numbers, but some members of her family feel that she is pushing her little girl.
In my opinion, the easiest way for LeeAnn to test whether or not she is pushing her daughter can be found in this quote: "Is it too soon, or should I let her keep going as long as she is interested and is having fun?"
If LeeAnn's daughter is interested in the concepts that she is learning and having fun while learning then it is definitely the right time to teach her.

| Article Title :: How to raise a reader: Lessons in literacy |
| |
| You want to raise a reader. That much you know. But how? That's the $20,000 question. You could probably spend that $20,000 on how-to books for you, readers for your child, flash cards and other accessories, and specialized reading programs promoting every possible avenue to full literacy.
You could, but you don't have to do all that. The facts are simple. Between 80-85 percent of children learn to read by the middle of first grade and most of those children will learn without the benefit of fancy reading programs and books. Many of those children will learn to read as the result of simple preliteracy activities they encountered at home and/or school.
In fact, studi (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Ready, Set, Read: Specific activities to make your child a reader! |
| |
| Providing positive, enjoyable literacy experiences give young children opportunities to gain the knowledge, awareness, skills, and love of learning that they need to later learn to read independently. Here are 8 ways you can provide those experiences:
CHOOSE THE RIGHT BOOKS
Choose books that have large colorful pictures or photos; a few words on a page; rich language; and relate to concepts, people, or things in children's lives. With this exposure, young children learn that books and reading explain the world they live in and ultimately help them better understand themselves. Sound like a tall order for a toddler?
Not really when you consider perennial (read full article) |
