Article Title :: Getting Over the Guilt of Putting Children in After Care

Today I had the most amazing revelation. I was having a conversation with my sister and she relieved my mind of something that has been plaguing me all year. Up until now, I’ve put my son in after care for a few days a week. When I’m out of town he goes to aftercare every single day that I’m out of town.Often times my mom would pick him up early. She believes that a 5 year old being in aftercare creates a very long day for a little kid. She firmly believes that having a mom at home with her kids is the absolute best alternative if at all possible. She was home with us the whole time growing up and she and my dad sacrificed a lot so she could stay home with us kids.I r (read full article)

Article Title :: How Internet Predators Select Their Victims

The average pedophile will victimize between 50-150 children before he comes to the attention of law enforcement. A large and growing number of predators have gravitated towards the internet, reasoning that browsing the personal profiles children themselves post on instant message services and anonymously lurking in chat rooms is less risky and more effective than hanging around playgrounds and schoolyards. The number of predators using the internet to groom children for future exploitation rises every month. How do internet predators select their victims? Here are some important factors:* Almost by definition, internet predators favor children who have regular (and privat (read full article)

Article Title :: Your Greatest Investment is Your Children

Is your child not enjoying school, or merely getting by at the elementary level? It is critical you connect in what is going on with them. If investment by parents is not happening, expect the phone calls from the teachers who spend several hours a day around your child. The investment of time can be only a few minutes of interacting with your child in areas of what their lives are about. Not your life and how they are a part of it. It’s their life and how you are a part, a huge part of theirs. Get interested. Empower, encourage and most of all use empathetic support. Be ready to catch them as they stumble and fall physically and emotionally. Have fun with them. Laugh together often. (read full article)

Article Title :: Foster Father Image, In memory of Cliff , 1952-2004

| What is a foster father? The dictionary says that 'foster' means
'to help to develop,' 'to cherish,' 'to bring up with care.' Cliff was a counselor at St. Anthony's Boys Home when he met a troubled young man named Mike. It wasn't long before Cliff took Mike into his own home, while continuing to mentor on his job as well. Cliff was an exemplary foster father. He helped teen kids develop good, healthy attitudes and to become young men who can make a difference in their community. He was a great encourager when things didn't go right.Cliff cherished his only son, the way most fathers cherish a son, always wanting what was best for him. Cliff knew the importance of education and was (read full article) |

Article Title :: Social Conditioning and Television Affecting the Minds of the Next Generation

Many are concerned with what’s on TV these days and if you are a parent you are indeed one of them. We do not want our kids watching junk on the television and we especially would prefer them not to watch extreme violence or a lot of sexual episodes at young ages. Now others argue that if we take out all the sex and violence on TV for the kids then we will be brainwashing these kids with wonderful, peaceful and loving TV shows, which teach them of a different reality, one which does not exist. If we do this we are not properly preparing them for real life when they grow up. After all the world is not fair and we know that. If we lie to our kids with wonderful programming, some say (read full article)

Article Title :: Children to Parents

I’m not sure how to explain this, and it is my feelings on the matter, so take or what it is worth, and file #13, it if you don’t’ like it. Children in both South and North America’s I’ve noticed lately, show very little respect for their parents, and explain it away as a generation gap. It has nothing to do with a gap; it has something to do with you—period. Children or kids can show respect to dogs, fish, girlfriends, the boyfriends down the block, but when they come home and the parents are there, the lack the ability of show regard is gone, respect is regard for the other person: you may be sing “I know that,” well maybe you do, but a lot of you don’t. Later on the (read full article)

Article Title :: Is Your Allergic Child Safe in School?

A severe allergic reaction to milk, peanuts, wheat, shellfish, latex and other types of triggers can keep a youngster from fully enjoying childhood. And that’s not right. We know how challenging and frightening it is to send a child with a severe allergy out into the world. A simple birthday party becomes a potentially deadly obstacle course for a child with a severe food allergy or latex allergy. You can’t stop your mind from questioning everything; did the hostess remember to make sure no peanut oil (or wheat, or milk) was used in the cake? Will the festive balloons trigger your precious one’s latex allergy? Whatever the cause of your child’s severe allergic reaction (read full article)

Article Title :: Children Are Facing Atherosclerosis Early in Life

| "Autopsy studies have revealed that many signs of atherosclerosis including scarring are now found in the arterial walls of the babies in this country; that by the age of ten, half children have coronary arterial lesions; and that 100 percent of them have mild atherosclerosis by the age 15."How this can be?Your Diet during your pregnancy is very important for your unborn child… And if you are breastfeeding; – your breast milk can have high fat/hormone content partially reflecting your diet. The truth is brutal I must to admit, which is even more compelling to face this problem today, before it is too late. But still…Are children neglected or not? Oh no.

Article Title :: Daughters, Dads And Listening

| "Thanks, dad. Thanks for listening. I always knew I could
come to you."
Last month a strange and not entirely unexpected guest made
his way into my life.
"Sixty" sauntered in, quite confident of his admittance I
might add, caring little how I felt.
Being sixty can mean...
Briskly heading toward the men's room quicker than I might
choose,
Staring in disbelief at the "fright night like" creature
squinting back at me from the torture chamber (my mirror)
while remembering the kid wearing a swimsuit who stopped
the clock soon enough to place second in state,
Wondering if the time ever exis (read full article) |

Article Title :: Releasing

The New Year always starts off with its own set of issues. To-do lists left over from last year stare us in the face, and we resolve to check items off with rapidity just as soon as we find homes for new gifts, pack up Holiday decorations, and settle the kids back into school. Left with the blank canvas of a whole year at our artful mercies, we resolve to tackle things that had been put off in the frenzied moments of December. And so new diets get started, new exercise regimens take hold, and new promises get made for all of those things that we’ve been meaning to do.As I sit in my hotel room typing this Newsletter, I reflect on the events of the past three days as we’ve been s (read full article)
