Article Title :: Bullies -Just Another Challenge?

If your child is being bullied, you must step in, and step in now. If you don't complain to the school, for example, they will ignore the problem, even when a teacher or other staff member is the bully. And too often they are. I had an experienced high school teacher we were all terrified of, especially a classmate who had problems with his kidneys and urinary tract. The day finally came when the teacher refused to allow the boy to leave one more time to go to the restroom during class, and the urine went all over the floor. Do you think that child wasn't scarred for life? Do you think we didn't all hate that teacher's guts? It could have been any of us who were embarrassed like that, but  (read full article)

Article Title :: Lunch Box On A Shoe String

While your kids are small, it is a novelty to take a packed lunch from home to school. But this does not last forever. Making a nutritious and low cost packed lunch for one or more kids on a regular basis requires organization. Keep in mind that it is possible to make a kids lunch box for roughly half the cost of a school meal. And if your kid gets a home cooked hot meal after school, or in the evening, plus a wholesome breakfast, there is no reason that you need compromise on nutritional values. If you don’t want to spend money on a new lunch box then check out your local thrift shops. Jumble/yard sales and church bazaars also routinely have these for sale at give away prices  (read full article)

Article Title :: Self Esteem for Children

Johnny comes home late from school with a scratch on his face and you yell at him for being late and then tell him that he’s grounded for being late and he’s not to have a snack as punishment as well. Johnny runs up the stairs to his room, huffing and puffing as he pulls off his uniform. The tears slowly rolling down his cherubic cheek, burning the scratch he got today in school from kids that were teasing him about being overweight.Changing into his “after school” clothes he pulls out a hidden chocolate bar from the drawer and tears the wrapper off and eats it without hardly even realizing what he’s doing….sadness, a sense of not belonging and anger fills his little   (read full article)

Article Title :: What's For Sale on MySpace? Find Out Before Your Child Does

Selling sex online is nothing new. What is new, however, is where these companies have set up shop. It is the same place that your child spends hours visiting every day. MySpace. On the surface, advertisements on MySpace are tame and within acceptable limits. The ads sell MP3 players, cell phones, phone service and promote movies and music download sites. These advertisers aren’t the ones to worry about; it is the “free”, “under the radar” advertisers that should worry you.MySpace “users” have discovered a highly profitable way to sell their products. Sex traffickers have infiltrated MySpace by setting up profiles, adding themselves to your friend’s  (read full article)

Article Title :: Young Parents Magazine - A Review

As happens so often when one is surfing the web, I came across Young Parents Magazine whilst the subject was about as far from my mind as it could be. On another day I might simply have hit the back button but something about the clean-cut and pleasant home page drew me in and I could see no harm in taking a little look.Subtitled 'Your Parenting and Family Resource on the net!', the home page offers an opportunity to sign up for a weekly newsletter, with tips; articles, fun stuff and money saving coupons, right at the start - a very good idea, given that anyone actually looking for the site may well be interrupted by the needs of the youngest member of the family at any moment and   (read full article)

Parents and Teachers, are your kids afraid of taking risks? Are you afraid your kids won’t develop their talents? Do they hide inside the Invisible Box?Let’s learn a fun way to help your kids risk wisely, develop their talents, and stay out of the Invisible Box. In the last newsletter I described the Invisible Box. Let me refresh your memory. My toastmaster friend, Mike, presented a contest talk entitled “The Invisible Box.” With his arms extended, he drew an imaginary box about 7’ high and 3’ wide. Next he stepped inside and shut its invisible door. Mike said that too many people live inside their invisible boxes. How does this apply to your kids?.The invi  (read full article)

Article Title :: Teaching Sign Language To Your Children Can Be Done

Even if you don't know any sign language at this time, it's easy to learn then teach your child a few key words to help the two of you communicate easier. I was a skeptic with my first child. I didn't know any sign language myself, and I thought I wouldn't be able to teach my daughter any either. I'm happy to say I was wrong, and now my daughter is even helping me teach my son a few words as well.Let me begin by telling you why I decided to give sign language a try in the first place. When my daughter was around seven months old I noticed she would grunt and wave her hands during meals, signaling to me she wanted more. At first I thought this behavior was cute and funny.  Article Title :: Preventative Action

Today, Cody, my seven year old son came bursting into the house crying hysterically. I was watching TV after having cleaned up the house a bit while my son and my daughter were out playing with their friends. I didn't realize my son was playing with a boy I'd forbade him in the past to play with. I asked him what was wrong and he said twice that "someone" was outside and wanted to speak to me. Instinct told me it was the police. Sure enough, it was, along with the other boy. They both reeked of smoke. This other boy is sweet, but he has behavioral problems and has been caught before starting fires, lighting fireworks and a plethora of other offenses. Since he was a juvenile, though,  (read full article)

Article Title :: Adoption: Friendships Forged through a Common Dream

I’ve had an incredible realization the last several months. I have realized the power of sharing, authenticity, and unity through a common bond – a shared experience. As a result of a “virtual” community of women from across the globe, I am blessed beyond belief. This community is made up of women who are at one stage or another of the unique, life-changing experience of becoming mothers through God’s miracle of adoption.Who would have imagined years ago when email and the internet were just fledgling forms of communication, that real, fulfilling, heart-warming friendships could develop between people who have never met face to face.It happens because   (read full article)
