| Article Title :: Paediatric Osteopathy |
| |
| All babies cry, but if yours cries a lot, isn't sleeping or is just plain irritable, many parents have found that a paediatric osteopath can help, particularly if the birth was difficult.By gently touching a baby, an osteopath can use manipulation to ease the tension and help improve the way baby's body functions. During birth and pregnancy your baby's body is subject to considerable pressure and can suffer physical strain.Andy Naddick, from the Osteopathic Centre for Children says: 'All your baby's systems are interconnected - the skeleton, the muscles, the internal organs and so on. If pressure or tension occurs in one area, the effect can continue throughout the body. For (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Registering a Birth in Scotland |
| |
| Who Can Register A Birth?
The child's mother or father should register the birth within 21 days. However, a father who is not married to the child's
mother can only register a birth and be named on the birth certificate as the father if:
he jointly signs the register with the mother, or
a court has declared that he is the father, or
the mother and he jointly sign a declaration available from
the Registrar.
If the child's mother and father are unable to register the
birth for reasons of incapacity, the following can register the
baby's birth:
any person present at the birth, or
anybody living in the premi (read full article) |

| Article Title :: How Well Do You Know Your Child? |
| |
| Do you think you really know your child? I don't mean know what he/she likes and doesn't like, but to know him/her well enough to understand his/her challenges, to appreciate his/her strengths and weaknesses and to help him/her develop his talents. Knowing your children can help increase their chance for success in the future and improve your relationship. As parents, we are constantly looking for ways to improve out relationship with our children, discipline our children and provide proper guidance. How many of us take the time to get to really know our child? Some of us believe that our children are extensions of us and don't have their own thoughts, dreams and goals. When was the (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Baptisms And Alternative Ways To Hold A Naming Ceremony |
| |
| Traditionally, babies have been named at a christening/baptism. Most still are, but increasingly parents are choosing an alternative, non-religious ceremony. There are three types of service available at a Church.
The traditional Infant Baptism (which most people call a 'christening'), here the parents declare the child to be a follower of Jesus Christ;
A service of Dedication, when the parents make promises about the upbringing of their child - these services are common in Baptist churches; andA Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child, a service of Blessing which is based on what Jesus did when children were brought to Him. This service is increasingly (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Crazy Colors Fun Kid Experiment as a Party Activity |
| |
| Here is an easy, inexpensive and fun kid experiment for your next kid birthday party. This activity, which is strictly speaking a kid science experiment, can be used in any party as entertainment. Even better: have a "Mad Chemist" theme and use this idea as one of the kid experiments.Fill a plate or saucer with milk and put in a few drops of food coloring on top of the milk in different spots. The smaller the drops the better.Use a spoon to pour a small amount of dishwashing liquid into the milk. Pouring it into the center works best. Now watch the colors dance and explode. This might sound very simple to you, but I've done this a few times with kids age (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Kids and Sports: Fundamentals First |
| |
| Would you hand a child calculus problems once she was able to count to ten? A geometry text when he began to recognize shapes? War and Peace as soon as she could recite her ABCs? Of course not! Not only is it preposterous to have such expectations of a child, but also it sets up the child for failure — and, most likely, a dread of and distaste for calculus, geometry, and reading.Yet all too many children are enrolled in gymnastics, karate, dance classes, and organized sports before they’ve mastered such basic movements as bending and stretching, walking with correct posture, and bouncing and catching a ball. How is that significantly different from expecting a child who’ (read full article) |

| Article Title :: The Muffed Dance |
| |
| Teri was 5. As younger siblings do, she looked up to her older
sister, the dancer, in a big way. Sara was 4 years older and was
excelling in ballet, tap and jazz.So we enrolled Teri in the same dance school and she really
seemed to enjoy the lessons and her new friends. She was now, of
course, a dancer, like her sister. And Teri very much looked forward
to the climax of her first dance season, the year-end dance recital
this school put on.If you’ve ever been a dance parent, you of course realize that the
obligation is quite large. Aside from the weekly lessons, scheduled
on different days in our case, there is the extra investment of time
and money preparing for the ‘big (read full article) |

| |
| I remember watching my 18-month-old son eat a big frosted cookie while I was carrying him out of the bakery. I asked him, “Can you give mommy a bite?” He leaned over and gently bit me on the cheek.Kids take things so literally. What misconceptions and concerns might your child have about their working parent? An in-depth study was done through the Families and Work Institute, to find out what children want from their working parents. Wouldn’t you think the study would show that kids want more time with working parents above all else? Surprise. They want their working parents to be less stressed. That’s right. Less stressed. It makes sense. Doesn’t it? Think of how y (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Using Pocket-money To Promote Independence In Kids |
| |
| In seminars I am often asked about pocket-money and whether it should be earned or only given when children behave well.My belief is that children should receive pocket-money as their small share of the family-wealth just as they should share the workload at home. This is not to say that the family income is divided equally between all members. Rather, children are given a realistic sum of money, given their age, needs and ability to deal with money. It makes sense to provide guidelines about spending including letting them know just what they are expected to buy. A child in lower primary school may get enough to purchase some sweets and one or two other items, whereas a chil (read full article) |
