| Article Title :: Why Creativity and Self-Expression are Important to Little Kids |
| |
| Can you draw a straight line? Most adults don’t consider themselves artistic. Parents do, however, worry about their toddler’s art abilities. As a child care provider for the past 10 years, I’ve had many discussions with parents about ‘how their toddler is doing’ as far as getting ready for preschool or kindergarten. They worry a lot about the final product of their toddler’s art projects. I try to explain to them that art is not just knowing how to draw a flower or a puppy, or whether or not little Jason colors in the lines. Little kids need to experience self-expression and the ‘doing of art’ more than having a page from a coloring book to hang on the refrig (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Kids' Toys. Think Before You Buy. |
| |
| There is a chore in my home that brings out the procrastinator in me. This particular chore is so big and so difficult, that I create new tasks just to avoid starting the dreaded job. What could be so bad: My toddler’s bedroom – a.k.a. fighting the battle of ‘too many toys!’
The problem doesn’t arrive from a lack of organization or space to put things, but from just too many toys in the first place. His room, when tidy, looks like a little toy store gone mad. My husband built custom shelving just for the toys and books, with varying shelf sizes to accommodate different types of toys and sizes of books. However, when I take a close look at the contents, it (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Sharing Books with Children |
| |
| One of my first memories of childhood is that of my mother reading Dr. Seuss books to me in a big brown recliner in our living room. That memory brings with it sounds and smells and a general feeling of safety and comfort that never fades, even after all these years. Naturally, one of the first memories I have of my own first born child is sitting in a big chair and reading Little Golden Books to him.
Sharing books and reading with my children is as natural as giving them baths and making their breakfast. ItÂ’s just something I do everyday, and itÂ’s one of the most pleasurable moments of my day. I love to hold my two year old in my lap while we snuggle up and look throug (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Baby Names - Book Review Roundup |
| |
| Best Baby Name Book In The Whole World
This book lists over 13,00 names and offers up meanings and lists. However, these are some basic baby name book requirements and certainly aren't enough to earn a "Best" title. Unfortunately, this is where the book falls. Not quite great, but not necessarily bad. It doesn't have a huge number of names, it doesn't offer oodles of extras, and some of its meanings are even a bit questionable. There are better books out there.
The Baby Name Wizard
This unusual baby name book really stands out from the crowd. Not simply a huge list of names, The Baby Name Wizard gives detailed information about each baby name in its dat (read full article) |

| |
| Developing tracking skills is key to your child's literacy development. Tracking in reading is the ability to follow a line of type across a page from left to right and from the top of the page to the bottom.
Most educators agree that effective tracking skills are essential for understanding literacy and aiding learning as a whole, but some children have difficulty mastering tracking.
While a crucial step in learning to read, you can easily help your child develop these skills with many fun activities.
~ When you read to your child let them see you tracking by using your finger to underline the words as you read ~ Allow your child to explore books (read full article) |

| Article Title :: Mommy & Baby: Questioning Your Milk Supply |
| |
| Regardless of which feeding philosophy you follow, you cannot add to what nature has left out. The anxiety created by the fear of failure (and in some cases, the fear of judgment from others) is a contributor in its own right to milk deficiency.
In most cultures, up to 5% of women during peacetime and 10% during wartime are not able to produce adequate milk for their infants. Some mothers experience sufficiency that wanes to insufficiency by the third month. This can take place in spite of having all the “correct” pieces of the puzzle in place: appropriate rest and nutrition, good latch, nursing frequently enough, and sufficient support from family.
