Article Title :: My Best Buddy

| My son, Dakota is now 7 yrs old. He is so smart for his age.
I recently had a conference with his 1st grade teacher and was surprised to find out that he was having a hard time in school.
I guess I was surprised because at home he was perfectly fine. She seems to believe that his problem lies with his inability to pay attention in school. She says it isn’t that he is disruptive but that he can’t seem to keep his attention on one thing for long at a time. She also warned me that at some point in time someone may suggest he has ADD, and of course with that diagnosis comes medication.
I am absolutely against the medicating of kids. I think it is a moral issue as well as a health ri (read full article) |

Article Title :: They Call it Puppy Love

| My son is 6 yrs old.
He came home the other day from school and stated that he had two girlfriends.
I asked him who they were.
And he said one was in his class and the other was in the other Kindergarten class.
He said one of them asked him to be her boyfriend, and the other he just liked, so she was his girlfriend too.
He liked her so he assumed she was his girlfriend too. That is pretty cute now that he is young, but I am not looking forward to him dating when he gets older, at all.
I had the boyfriends in grade school too.
Boyfriends meaning, we would just look at each other and smile at each other in class. As I got older we would hold hands and write love letters to each (read full article) |

Article Title :: Income that PAYS Your Child Support WITHOUT Increasing Your Child Support

Child support is defined as that part of your income you would spend on your children if they lived with you. Custodial parents do not pay child support, because it is assumed that they are spending money on the children, either directly (clothes, entertainment, etc.) and indirectly (rent, food, etc.). Non-custodial parents are ordered to pay child support -usually a fixed amount for a certain period of time, like per week or per month – to the custodial parent, who is required to spend it for the benefit of the child. This article is written to define a method by which a non-custodial parent can create income that should pay his or her child support obligation, yet not increase the (read full article)

Article Title :: Child ADHD - Deciding Where to Draw the Line

The wonderful adaptability of children in dealing with the challenges of this ever-changing and unpredictable world is really amazing. Their growth from a state of familial security and dependence through progressive stages of self-direction and personal autonomy requires enormous and almost anti-gravitational efforts on their part. Children must integrate a continuous changing picture of themselves with a world characterized more and more by conflict, competition and change. Most children cross their milestones successfully amidst all the challenges by adapting, learning and changing, while a small percentage but a large number of children demand more time and efforts on the caregi (read full article)

Article Title :: Go Ahead - Make Dad's Day

| Throughout the year, many days of celebration are tucked capriciously into the calendar. So much so, it is hard to find any day of the year where something or someone is not being observed, which has benefited the greeting card company, you can be sure. I'm not positive, but I think they've had a great deal to do with designating these days. Some days are celebrated a little more enthusiastically than others. The Fourth of July has firecrackers; Halloween has funny and scary costumes, not to mention bags of candy; and Christmas boasts the Christmas tree and jolly old St. Nick with all his presents, and it is hard to compete with Christmas parties when it comes to celebrations. | Article Title :: Children - Blessing or Curse |

You’re trying to catch up on some sleep on a quiet Saturday morning when you hear the shrill scream of a child, who seems upset with the fact that another child is pointing at him or her, and has done so for the past three minutes. You turn over and hope that they will resolve it without your intervention…but that’s unlikely, given their past. The screams get louder, and now it’s two children instead of one. A few seconds later, one stops screaming and the other starts crying. You hear the pattern of foot steps running across the hall, and climbing the steps. Finally, the child bursts in your room. Your ‘rest time’ is over. It’s the beginning of another long day (read full article)

Article Title :: Public Schools Can Waste 12 Years of Your Child’s Life

For over fifty years, public-school officials and politicians have tried one education fad after another. They have all failed. Children should not be turned into victims and educational guinea pigs by public-school authorities. Here's why public schools can waste 12 years of your children’s lives and destroy their love of learning:1. These schools teach children to read with the whole-language method, which cripples children’s ability to read. That is why after 12 years, millions of graduating high-school students have poor reading skills, and some students can barely read their own diplomas.2. Public schools teach the “new” or fuzzy math which can cripple a child (read full article)

Article Title :: Public Schools Can Cripple Your Children's Ability To Read

For many adults, reading a book or newspaper seems effortless. Yet reading effortlessly comes from constant use of basic skills learned at an early age. Once children learn these basic skills, they can eventually read complex books like War and Peace. What are these skills? To read, one must recognize thousands of words. Since all English words are built from only twenty-six letters, the huge task of recognizing letters and their sounds and putting them together to form words becomes greatly simplified. An English-speaking child only has to sound out the letters and then put the sounds together to read the word.I do not wish to over-simplify the complexity of our rich English (read full article)
