Article Title :: At Last! Cat Litter Boxes Don't Have To Be Evil

There is nothing worse for cat or cat owner than a smelly litter box. For many people, the litter box is the worst of part of owning a cat. Not only is it something people dread to clean but it is also dusty and dirty. And, those who have to clean it can find themselves more susceptible to cat diseases that are present there. Sure, itÂ’s a bad job but it doesnÂ’t have to be too hard either. There are many new litter boxes being designed to make the job, well, easier. One of them is the hooded litter box. These give the privacy to cats who are more sensitive and they also keep dust down considerably. They are idea of a single cat owner as long as they are clean  (read full article)

Article Title :: Dog Training Tips: Things I've Learned About Agility Dog Training

I've owned many dogs, throughout my life, but have never known exactly how to train them properly. I based my training on punishment and just couldn't figure out why that didn't work that well. But, almost two years ago, I started training my Papillon for agility competition. She was extremely high-drive and I knew she'd really love it. So, I found a good agility training school and off we went. We've been competing, very successfully, for almost a year now and, looking back, I learned so many important things about dog training! First of all, most trainers require that dogs have completed at least a basic obedience class before proceeding to agility training. This is critical t  (read full article)

Article Title :: Introducing a New Kitten to Your Older Cat...

So, you read somewhere that introducing a new kitten into your home could be great for your existing cat, for companionship. And you remember how much fun your cat was when she was a new kitten, and you would love to re-live those days. It is generally thought that cats thrive better with the company of another feline, especially cats confined indoors. But before you rush off to your local cat shelter or breeder, here are a few tips to make bringing home a new kitten as stress free as possible. Choose a time when your home is not too busy and you will have time to devote to your new kitty and your existing cat, avoid holidays, for example, or other times when   (read full article)

Article Title :: How To Train Your Dog Not To Chew

Chewing is something that comes naturally to every dog. Every dog feels the instinctual need to sharpen its teeth and hone his biting skills. Chewing on the right things, like specially designed chew toys for instance, can even help the dog clean his teeth and remove plaque. Even though chewing is natural and healthy, that does not mean that the dog should be given carte blanche and allowed to chew everything in sight. It is vital for every dog to learn the difference between the things it is OK to chew on, like toys and ropes, and the things that are off limits, such as carpets, shoes and other items. When working with a new puppy, it is advisable to   (read full article)

Article Title :: It Is Possible To Give Your Cat A Bath, And Come Away Scratch Free

Although your cat doesn't realise it right now, after some tender loving care and a little shampoo, he will appreciate it. Cats hate water, that much is easy to see as he lashes out at you with his claws when he gets anywhere near it. Why would someone want to bathe their cat, then? Well, they are dirty and can become flea infested just like a dog, so they do need them. Sometimes, youÂ’ll just have to do it. The key is to not bathe your cat more than once a month as you will damage his skin and his hair if you do so more than that. And, you can do it. The Supplies To do the task, youÂ’ll need some supplies. The very least you will ne  (read full article)

Article Title :: Jake The Border Collie Tells His Tales

Hi everyone, itÂ’s Jake here again... with a follow-up to my first dog story, that was called “JakeÂ’s Own Story” and gave a brief biographical insight into my life so far. Here is my update... The last two years have been busy for mom and dad, for one reason or another, but somehow they always had time for me! Whenever they arrived home, I was always there with a big “Hello, missed you loads and itÂ’s great to have you home”. I think this helped to relax them a bitÂ…since I always got taken for walks, no matter how tired they were. We didnÂ’t go very far sometimes but I always made the most of it and would enjoy every moment. I would  (read full article)

Article Title :: Quick Ways To Teach Your Puppy To Climb Stairs And To Accept The Collar

Bringing home a new puppy is always an exciting time for the entire family. Getting that new puppy off the right start with proper training is very important to making that puppy a valued member of his human family. There are a number of talents that every new puppy must master, including going up and down the stairs, and how to accept a new collar as if sheÂ’s worn it her entire life. It is best to introduce a new puppy to the household when everyone in the family is present, and when the household is as calm as possible. That is why animal care experts discourage parents from giving puppies and kittens as holiday presents. The holiday season is typicall  (read full article)

Article Title :: Learn The Strategies To Train Your Puppy To Accept The Collar And Lead

Walking on a collar and lead is an important skill that every dog must learn. Even the best trained dog should never be taken outside the home or yard without a sturdy collar and leash. Even if your dog is trained perfectly to go off lead, accidents and distractions do happen, and a collar, with proper identification attached, is the best way to be sure you will get your beloved companion back. Of course before you can teach your new puppy to accept a leash, he or she must first learn to accept wearing a collar. The first step is to choose a collar that fits the dog properly. It is important to measure the puppyÂ’s neck, and to choose a collar size accordingly.   (read full article)

Article Title :: Camping with Your Dogs - Ten Commandments

CAMPING WITH DOGS – THE TEN COMMANDMENTS In the U.S. alone, more than 30 million people each year take their pets with them while camping. Yet, when we first started RVing with our dogs, we were unable to find much written on the subject. Sure, there were the occasional articles in magazines that reminded us to use pet ID tags, bring plenty of water, and take their favorite toy. But in terms of providing genuine support or bottom–line information, there was nothing out there. Since it was something that we felt was badly needed, we decided to write this article. While there are numerous issues to consider while camping with dogs, these are some of the most important  (read full article)

Article Title :: Lyme Disease In Dogs Is A Serious Matter

Lyme disease is caused by an organism known as a spirochete, which is a coiled rod-shaped bacterium and named Borrelia burgdorferi. It is passed to dogs and people by deer ticks carrying the infection; the ticks get the infection from the white-footed mouse, which acts as a carrier. The only way a tick can transmit the bacteria is to remain attached to the animal's skin for one to two days. Unfortunately, these ticks are very small and easily can go unnoticed. Lyme disease in dogs has been found worldwide and in ancient Chinese medical literature they actually describe a syndrome very similar to Lyme disease, thousands of years before Lyme , Connecticut was named. In the United States , more  (read full article)
