Article Title :: Safeguard Those Images

You really need to organise yourself if you are going to keep abreast of your photographic activities. If, like me, you tend to take between 200 and 300 images in a session, you must have a system for storage and retrieval and to prevent accidental losses. Nothing is more valuable than the last images you took.Make sure, first of all, that you have sufficient memory card space before you start your shoot. Delete or transfer old images. Take care what you delete – it is so easy to trash ones that are important. Some people would keep everything – you never know when they could come in handy. Some photographers will take several smaller cards rather than one big one so that if on (read full article)

Article Title :: Amateur Photojournalism and Moral Dilemma

Many of us have visions of producing that “once in a lifetime” image. This may be one that you have struggled to perfect – a landscape or a certain portrait perhaps. Alternatively, it might be one that you have captured in a fit of “photojournalism”.The latter is something we often wish to aspire to. Capturing an image at the moment of breaking news and then wiring it to some picture agency or even a local newspaper has the feel of professionalism and excitement about it. Seeing your image in print can work wonders for the psyche as well as accumulating that little bit extra in your bank balance. But consider your actions. What pictures are you going to take, for wh (read full article)

Article Title :: Would You Picture an Intimate Moment?

There are times that taking a photo might be seen as just too intrusive. In particular, intimate and personal moments. The dilemma then is whether to do so and capture a memory forever, or avoid using the camera and lose an unrepeatable and special moment.A relative of mine was distraught when her husband died. He had been ill for some time and it was clear that his days were short. They were very close and their final moments were loving and personal. She was with him when he died and their last words will stay with her forever. But his image won’t. Now she has to try and remember him the best she can. She remembers their time together but would dearly love to have a lasti (read full article)

Article Title :: The Great Photographer Makes the Ordinary Extraordinary

For a great many people, photography is about amassing technical skills and parading the best equipment. Granted, there are many great images taken by these sorts of people. But there are many bad ones too.Having the best equipment or the best knowledge doesn’t make you naturally good at photography. Furthermore, what others see in your work is not necessarily what you see when you look at the same image. The differences between us are what makes us special as humans but they also mark our potential skills in photography. The skill of the photographer lies, in part, in taking an image of something ordinary and making it extraordinary. The type of image that gives the viewer (read full article)

Article Title :: Our Moral Obligation to Newcomers to Photography

It is easy for the newcomer to photography to feel a little intimidated when thinking about getting a camera. There is such an array of models to choose from and such a lot of information available about each camera. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of techno-babble talk which can scare the living daylights out of even a hardened enthusiast.Unfortunately, photographers themselves do not help the cause sometimes. Scaring off novices with complex jargon and undecipherable chatter can only make it more difficult to attract newcomers and these latter people are the ones that can make the hobby even more interesting and widely available.Luckily, digital cameras are simple to us (read full article)

Article Title :: Seven Ways to Increase Portrait Sales

| A good portrait photographer can do his or her best but still be plagued with no shows, minimum orders, and low profits. | Article Title :: Landscape Photography |

It is possible for nineteen dollars and ninety five cents plus the cost of the paper and framing to create a work of art worthy of hanging on your wall. All it takes is a little planning, a five to eight megapixel camera and a good printer . Today there are digital cameras that will equal the quality of film cameras, but they are quite expensive. I know you advanced photographers who swear by large format will be the first to state that large format contains more detail and less grain that 35mm and you are right. But we SLR photographers have to go with the camera that we have and work within that format. Professional photog (read full article)

Article Title :: Digital Photography: The Top Five Reasons Why

One thing I discovered during my experience with digital photography after 20 years of shooting film, and I teach this point in all the many seminars that I've put on to hundreds of other full-time pros, is that digital photography is very well suited for the portrait photographer. So why are we the last to jump on the band wagon? Many commercial shooters have known about and mastered the use of digital in their business's for far longer than the portrait photographer. My guess is that we're afraid. Afraid of the learning curve and afraid that the quality just isn't there unless we spend an ungodly amount of our hard earned cash on some scary looking gigantic array of confusing and (read full article)
