Who Needs Heroes?
by: Graham and Julie
When we were talking the other day we started to think about our heroes when we were young. After we had discussed the usual film star and sports stars that we idolised I remembered Derek. Derek was a couple of years ahead of me in school and he had everything; he always got straight ‘A’s’ and was formidable on the football field as well as one of the fastest over 100 metres. What’s more he didn’t appear to work at it. When the rest of us were ‘slaving’ away at our homework or sweating buckets trying to impress on the football field or athletics track he just turned up and got on with it. A natural, was how one of our teachers desc (read full article) |

Love vs. Fear - Volume 18
by: John Ford
Breaking with tradition, today's article comes from the 9-23-04 edition of Sojomail. Sojomail is produced by Sojourners; an evangelical journal, and calls itself a 'weekly email-zine of spirituality, politics and culture.' I personally object to their use of the term spirituality, because they are decidedly Christian oriented. For them to replace the word 'spirituality' with the word 'Christianity' would be a lot more accurate. I do feel that the good people at Sojourners do have very wonderful intentions. I just wish they didn't feel the need to route all their efforts through Christianity, to the exclusion of billions of the earth's inhabitants (read full article) |

Why Don’t You Just Stuff It ALL?
by: Neil Millar
You got busy at work, got busy in your marriage, got busy with your home and maybe your kids and before you knew it... a chunk of your life had slipped away.
And it hasn*t been an easy chunk of life either, has it? Things going wrong: the car, the dishwasher and the kids, and you feel depressed at home and stressed at work.
And I*m sure the question, now you think about it is this, *Surely there must be more to life than this?*
And the second you read that question you immediately knew there was more to life, but then you immediately thought, *Yeah, but what is it?*
Well, what is it?
Have you been putting off for a while, som (read full article) |

Freedom- or Burden of Choice?
by: Patsi Krakoff
Everyday decisions have become increasingly complex due to the overwhelming abundance of choice with which we are presented. A trip to a typical supermarket reveals enormous choices such as 85 different crackers, 285 types of cookies, 230 varieties of canned soup, 80 different pain relievers, and 360 kinds of shampoo. Does this improve the quality of our lives?
American culture was founded on freedom of choice. A free market economy means that more options should result in better satisfaction for customers and improved products and services. But if the number and variety of choices means more time and effort involved in making even the (read full article) |

How a Blind Date Can Increase Your Psychic Abilities
by: Stephanie Yeh
So how can a blind date increase your psychic abilities? It's probably not what you're thinking. We're not talking about having a few drinks with someone you've never met before. We're talking about developing your psychic abilities by deliberating shutting down one or more of your five senses.
Because we are such physical creatures, we have a tendency to use our five senses in everything we do. That's not a bad idea for driving, walking, or working on the computer, but if you want to increase your psychic or spirit abilities, using your five senses less will help.
That's where the blind date comes in. A blind d (read full article) |

Training Your Mind to Help You
by: Stephanie Yeh
Our friend, singer and songwriter Chuck Pyle, likes to say, "The mind is like a bad neighborhood-you should never go there by yourself." If you're mind hasn't been trained to help you, via methods like meditation, shamanism or NLP, it might really be a bad neighborhood. Our minds constantly absorb thoughts, behaviors, and responses from our environment. These various thought patterns and responses may or may not be in alignment with our goals. So, unless we actively train our minds to be responsive to our needs, we may be in for a wild chariot ride (and 6 out of control horses)!
>From a shamanic point of view, we say that each person i (read full article) |

A Preexisting Condition

Direct Answers - Column for the week of December 2, 2002
I am 25 and have been married for two years. This past August I began an affair with my husband's younger brother. I feel just terrible and want to end the relationship, but I feel I am in a hopeless situation.
The guilt is overwhelming, and I feel I need to come clean with my husband before I can get past what I've done and move on. However, I'm sure you can see the conflict. Since the affair involves someone so close to my husband, I don't know that we could ever get through this.
I don't want to destroy the relationship between my husband and his brother, not to mention that (read full article) |

Goal Setting: Pops Proves Its Never Too Late
by: Vic Johnson
Pops first set the goal in high school, but when he graduated he thought he wasn*t mature enough to pursue it so he enlisted in the U.S. Army.
He dreamed about it as a member of the 82nd Airborne as he became an Army Ranger. Later, in the first Gulf War, he thought about his goal again, as he also did during his service in the Kosovo conflict. For 20 years, through his Army career, a war, marriage and six children, Pops kept the dream and the goal alive.
Never mind that he was considered far too old to pursue his dream, Pops just couldn*t let go.
When he retired from the Army at 39, he decided it was finally time to do (read full article) |

How Are You Feeling? It's More Of A Brain Question Than You Think.
by: Andrew Abernathy
How you respond to How are You reveals a great deal about you.
"Hi! How are you?"
"Not bad, you?"
How many times have you started a conversation this way? I'll bet you do it nearly every time you say hello. We have been trained to the cultural activity of inquiring of our friends and acquaintances well being, even if we don't really care. It's the civil thing to do. But I'm going to focus on your response to this ubiquitous question.
Last month I introduced the PINT concept (Put It iN Thought), now I'm going to expand this concept to how it can begin to really make a change in your daily life. (read full article) |
