Oregon Dank Stars...Clothing Against Corporations
by: Michael Cook
The Oregon Dank Stars are Oregon grown skate and snowboard company which produce videos, accessories, and unique and attractive clothing for today’s misguided individuals. The Oregon Dank Stars have expressed their philosophy of supporting local business, wherever you may live. Can anyone, excluding shareholders and moneygrubbers, say anything good about Big Business and Corporate America’s influence on what we wear and what we buy? Who wants to admit that someone’s grandfather designed their wardrobe? Who wants to admit their paycheck goes to some tycoon in L.A who spends their money supporting some other corpora (read full article) |

The Mayfly Adult
by: Cameron Larsen
In our last article titled Mayfly Nymph. We covered the basics of the nymph stage of this crucial insect in the world of the freshwater game fish and fly fisherman. We now will cover the adult phases of the mayfly. Although most of its life is indeed spent as a nymph dwelling at the river or lake bottom. It is the adult insect that has truly captured the fancy of fly fisherman. It’s the adults that were given the colorful names that we listed in the Mayfly Nymph article. And it is the adult that fly fishing elitists consider the only form worthy of imitation.
After spending a year or so as a nymph, the mayfly emerges to the surface. On the (read full article) |

The Mayfly Nypmh

Their names roll off the fly fisherman’s tongue like the names of lost loves. Making the angler drool almost as much as the fish (if fish could drool). Hendricksons, Green Drakes, Pale Morning Dun. Just saying these names can do more to lower a fly fisherman’s blood pressure than a month of yoga. Callibeatis, Blue Wing Olive, Tri-Co. If you are not in a state of Zen yet, remembering past fly fishing experiences, then you probably are not yet an avid trout fly fisherman.
For the novice, these names are the common names given to various species of the hallowed mayfly. The mayfly is to trout fly fishing, what the microchip is to the personal c (read full article) |

Confidence in Fly Fishing
by: Cameron Larsen
For those of you who, like me, have memories of fishing that pre-date memories of school, think back to as many fishing partners and trips as you can. Even those people you only went fishing with once. Then try to recall times where the success or failure of a fly fisherman seemed to lie strictly on the fly fisherman’s confidence. If you think about it in these terms, I bet you can remember numerous times, when an angler’s, confidence or lack thereof, either doomed them or buoyed then until they started catching fish.
At times the success of a confident fly fishing angler can be attributed to persistence. An angler, confident in the (read full article) |

Simple Things for the “Sailing Life”
by: Kerry S. Mason
Owning a boat has an oxymoronic quality to it. “The simple life” can be pretty complex--I think of it as having a plane, a car, and a house compressed into a very small space. This specialized environment calls for specialized equipment and tactics...sometimes. In spite of what marine retailers would like us to think, there are a number of 'normal' (and inexpensive) items that we can put to very efficient use aboard our boats. For example:
For easy lighting that won't impair your night vision, stock red cellophane (the kind you get in rolls in a gift wrap store) and rubber bands. Cut squares to fit over flashlights an (read full article) |

Making Music As A Lefty
by: Ryan Thomson
Author Interview with Ryan Thomson, seacoast New Hampshire resident, and author of a new book advocating left handed violin playing by lefties. - Playing Violin and Fiddle Left Handed.
This piece started out as an actual interview for an internet website article, but the author has expanded it into its present form, while maintaining the “interview” format.
What an interesting book! What prompted you to put this book together?
Almost every single time I’ve played in public for the last 10 years a listener has asked me why I hold my violin differently from other players, or has commented on the fact that they’ve never before seen some (read full article) |

Choosing A Fly Reel
by: Cameron Larsen
Selecting a fly reel for trout fishing has become, like many things in fly fishing, a somewhat unnecessarily complicated adventure. The problem is, reels have gotten so well-made, so functional, that you almost have to know what you are looking for. In the old days, reels held the line, your spare hand was the drag, and that was it. Tippets almost always broke when fighting an unusually large trout, and the rare one you did haul in was a great cause for celebration.
Well things are different today. Drag systems have changed, there are retrieve ratios (always buy 1:1 for trout), and everyone carries around an extra spool or two to change lines wh (read full article) |

Selecting Flies for Pacific Steelhead
by: Cameron Larsen
Popular flies for Steelhead vary greatly whether you are fishing in the Pacific region or in the Great Lakes. The fisheries have developed separately and so have the preferences anglers have for flies cast to their intended prey. We will primarily concentrate on Steelhead flies on the West Coast in this article and concentrate on flies of the Great Lakes region in a future article. There are some common patterns used in both regions as well, and we will point those out as we go along.
Fly fishing for Steelhead can be traced back to the Eel River, in Northern California, during the late 1800’s.. And many of the first Steelh (read full article) |

1st Point: The ABC's of Sex and Football
The No Fun League is back in the news again, and earning their nickname. In a cross promotional effort between Monday Night Football and Desperate Housewives, ABC has gotten major flack after airing a "steamy" intro before Monday Night's game between Terrell Owens and actress Nicollette Sheridan. ABC already has a 5 second delay in place after the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" involving Janet Jackson during the Super Bowl halftime show. This, however, was a pre-taped, approved video segment. Officials at the NFL have said that the segment was inappropriate and unsuitable for their Monday Night Au (read full article) |
