ge VManager wrongly imports failed test as passed By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Fri, 18 Oct 2019 12:48:38 GMT Hello,I'm exploring VManager tool capabilities. I launched a simulation with xrun, which terminates with a fatal error (`uvm_fatal actually). Then I imported the flow session, through VManager -> Regression -> Collect Runs, linking the directory with ucm and ucd of just failed run. VManager imports the test with following attributes: Total Runs =1 #Passed =1 #Failed =0 What I'm missing here? It should be imported as failed test. If I right click on flow name and choose Analyze All Runs, VManager brings me to Analysis tab and I can see only a PASSED tag in Runs subwindow. Thank you for any help Full Article

ge Strange Dot on final Footprint ? This Shape is utilized in the PadStack Editor to create a special Pin for a custom Footprint. Picture 2 show the PadStack Editor first page with drill size and offset. File LTshape16.pad Picture 3 show the PadStack Editor page 2 with that LTshape utilized as the BEGIN LAYER for copper area. Picture 4 show the actual Package (footprint) finished with Outline, padstacks for pin 1,2,4,5 and that special Pin 3 LTshape. Its origin is also dead center, same as LTshape.ssm Notice the round dot at the bottom of Pin 3. It only appear in the Package drawing, not in the original Picture 1, the actual LTshape.ssm or LTshape.dra Picture 5 shows that same Footprint in the final board in PCB Editor. That same dot, now pink, is still there and cannot be selected separately. When using the Find Option and selecting each object separately, the only way to select Pin 3 is when Option > Pin is selected. Then I can hover on the dot near Pin 3 and the whole LTshape lights up as pin 3, but not the pink dot. There is absolutely no way I can select that dot as an object. There is no way to know the existence of that dot except by looking at it. Cannot be deleted, cannot be selected, can only be invisible if I use the Color Visibility manager and disable all 4 layers, TOP GND VCC BOTTOM. If I turn On TOP then the dot becomes pink. With GND On the dot is green, VCC On will get a Red dot, BOTTOM On will not show the dot but Pin 3 turn On since LTshape is the actual Net connected. This Net is not GND nor VCC, it is N357726. Where is this dot coming from and why is it not a selectable object ? Why can I not delete it ? Full Article

ge Why a new Package update generate DRC error after waiving ? By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Thu, 30 Apr 2020 20:36:10 GMT I've redesigned a custom TO220FLAT Package First I created a TO220shape.ssm with PCB Editor. Then I created a surface mount T220build.pad in Padstack Editor using TO220shape.ssm. Then I created a TO220FLAT.psm in PCB Editor. I placed 3 Connect pins and 9 Mechanical pins for the TO220 TAB, using standard through-hole pads for better current handling. Adding those Mechanical pins created many DRC errors caused by the proximity of those pads attached to the TO220shape. Thru Pin to SMD Pin Spacing (-200.0 0.0) 5 MIL OVERLAP DEFAULT NET SPACING CONSTRAINTS Mechanical Pin "Pad50sq30d" Pin "T220build, 2" I corrected the situation (so I though) by Waiving those DRC errors, thinking that they could not cause any problem and because that’s what I want, i.e.: 9 through-holes under the TO220 device. The idea being that when this device is mounted flat on the PCB it could carry lots of current via 9 pads that could make a good high current conductor to inner layers. I then saved the Package and updated all related footprint schematic parts in Capture. Created a new Netlist. Then I imported the new logic into PCB Editor to reflect that change. When the File > Import > Logic is finished I get no feedback error! (which, for me is a substantial achievement in itself) Now, in the Design Window I see all those DRC errors popping up again, despite the fact that I waived those DRCs back in the Padstack edition. If I run a Design Rule Check (DRC) Report I will see all those DRC listed again. Now, I understand that I can go ahead and waive all those DRCs (100 in total) but I’m thinking there is got to be a better way of doing this. Please, any advise is welcome. Thanks Full Article

ge Specman Makefile generator utility By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Tue, 02 Dec 2008 08:31:45 GMT I've heard lots of people asking for a way to generate Makefiles for Specman code, and it seems there are some who don't use "irun" which takes care of this automatically. So I wrote this little utility to build a basic Makefile based on the compiled and loaded e code. It's really easy to use: at any time load the snmakedeps.e into Specman, and use "write makefile <name> [-ignore_test]".This will dump a Makefile with a set of variables corresponding to the loaded packages, and targets to build any compiled modules.Using -ignore_test will avoid having the test file in the Makefile, in case you switch tests often (who doesn't?).It also writes a stub target so you can do "make stub_ncvlog" or "make stub vhdl" etc.The targets are pretty basic, I thought it was more useful to #include this into the main Makefile and define your own more complex targets / dependencies as required. The package uses the "reflection" facility of the e language, which is now documented since Specman 8.1, so you can extend this utility if you want (please share any enhancements you make). Enjoy! :-)Steve. Full Article
ge IntelliGen Statistics Metrics Collection Utilility By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Thu, 04 Jun 2009 16:24:28 GMT As noted in white papers, posts on the Team Specman Blog, and the Specman documentation, IntelliGen is a totally new stimulus generator than the original "Pgen" and, as a result, there is some amount of effort needed to migrate an existing verification environment to fully leverage the power of IntelliGen. One of the main steps in migrating code is running the linters on your code and adressing the issues highlighted. Included below is a simple utility you can include in your environment that allows you to collect some valuable statistics about your code base to allow you to better gauge the amount of work that might be required to migrate from Pgen to IntelliGen. The ICFS statistics reported are of particular benefit as the utility not only identifies the approximate number of ICFSs in the environment, it also breaks the total number down according to generation contexts (structs/units and gen-on-the-fly statements) allowing you to better focus your migration efforts. IMPORTANT: Sometimes a given environment can trigger a large number of IntelliGen linting messages right off the bat. Don't let this freak you out! This does not mean that migration will be a long effort as quite often some slight changes to an environment remove a large number of identified issues. I recently encountered a situation where a simple change to three locations in the environment, removed 500+ ICFSs!The methods included in the utility can be used to report information on the following:- Number of e modules - Number of lines in the environment (including blanks and comments)- Number and type of IntelliGen Guidelines linting messages- Number of Inconsistently Connected Field Sets (ICFSs)- Number of ICFS contexts and how many ICFSs per context- Number of soft..select overlays found in the envioronment- Number of Laces identified in the environmentTo use the code below, simply load it before/after loading e-code and then you can execute any of the following methods:- sys.print_file_stats() : prints # of lines and files - sys.print_constraint_stats() : prints # of constraints in the environment- sys.print_guideline_stats() : prints # of each type of linting message- sys.print_icfs_stats() : prints # of ICFSs, contexts and #ICFS/context- sys.print_soft_select_stats() : prints # of soft select overlay issues- sys.print_lace_stats() : *Only works for SPMNv6.2s4 and later* prints # of laces identified in the environmentEach of the above calls to methods produces it's own log files (stored in the current working directory) containing relevant information for more detailed analysis. - file_stats_log.elog : Output of "show modules" command- constraint_log.elog : Output of the "show constraint" command- guidelines_log.elog : Output of "gen lint -g" (with notification set to MAX_INT in order to get all warnings)- icfs_log.elog : Output of "gen lint -i" command- soft_select_log.elog: Output of the "gen lint -s" command- lace_log.elog : Output of the "show lace" commandHappy generating!Corey Goss Full Article

ge Genus Synthesis Solution – Introduction to Stylus Common UI By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Thu, 09 Apr 2020 12:41:00 GMT The Cadence® Genus Synthesis Solution, Innovus Implementation System, and Tempus Timing Signoff Solution have a lot of shared functionality, but in the past, the separate legacy user interfaces (UIs) created a lot of differences. A new common user interface that the Genus solution shares with the Innovus and Tempus solutions streamlines flow development and simplifies usability across the complete Cadence digital flow. The Stylus Common UI provides a next-generation synthesis-to-signoff flow with unified database access, MMMC timing configuration and reporting, and low-power design initialization. This webinar answers the following questions: What is the Stylus Common UI and why did Cadence develop it? How does someone invoke and use the Stylus Common UI? What are some of the important and useful features of the Stylus Common UI? What are key ways the Stylus Common UI is different from the Legacy UI? If you want to learn more about Stylus UI in the context of Genus Synthesis Solution, refer to 45-minute recorded webinar on https://support.cadence.com (Cadence login required). ge Take Advantage of Advancements in Real Number Modeling and Simulation By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Mon, 26 Feb 2018 23:00:00 GMT Verification is the top challenge in mixed-signal design. Bringing analog and digital domains together into unified verification planning, simulating, and debugging is a challenging task for rapidly increasing size and complexity of mixed-signal designs. To more completely verify functionality and performance of a mixed-signal SoC and its AMS IP blocks used to build it, verification teams use simulations at transistor, analog behavioral and real-number model (RNM) and RTL levels, and combination of these. In recent years, RNM and simulation is being adopted for functional verification by many, due to advantages it offers including simpler modeling requirements and much faster simulation speed (compared to a traditional analog behavioral models like Verilog-A or VHDL-AMS). Verilog-AMS with its wreal continue to be popular choice. Standardization of real number extensions in SystemVerilog (SV) made SV-RNM an even more attractive choice for MS SoC verification. Verilog-AMS/wreal is scalar real type. SV-RNM offers a powerful ability to define complex data types, providing a user-defined structure (record) to describe the net value. In a typical design, most analog nodes can be modeled using a single value for passing a voltage (or current) from one module to another. The ability to pass multiple values over a net can be very powerful when, for example, the impedance load impact on an analog signal needs to be modeled. Here is an example of a user-defined net (UDN) structure that holds voltage, current, and resistance values: When there are multiple drives on a single net, the simulator will need a resolution function to determine the final net value. When the net is just defined as a single real value, common resolution functions such as min, max, average, and sum are built into the simulator. But definition of more complex structures for the net also requires the user to provide appropriate resolution functions for them. Here is an example of a net with three drivers modeled using the above defined structural elements (a voltage source with series resistance, a resistive load, and a current source): To properly solve for the resulting output voltage, the resolution function for this net needs to perform Norton conversion of the elements, sum their currents and conductances, and then calculate the resolved output voltage as the sum of currents divided by sum of conductances. With some basic understanding of circuit theory, engineers can use SV-RNM UDN capability to model electrical behavior of many different circuits. While it is primarily defined to describe source/load impedance interactions, its use can be extended to include systems including capacitors, switching circuits, RC interconnect, charge pumps, power regulators, and others. Although this approach extends the scope of functional verification, it is not a replacement for transistor-level simulation when accuracy, performance verification, or silicon correlation are required: It simply provides an efficient solution for discretely modeling small analog networks (one to several nodes). Mixed-signal simulation with an analog solver is still the best solution when large nonlinear networks must be evaluated. Cadence provides a tutorial on EEnet usage as well as the package (EEnet.pkg) with UDN definitions and resolution functions and modeling examples. ge Virtuoso Meets Maxwell: Die Export Gets a Facelift By community.cadence.com Published On :: Mon, 27 Apr 2020 13:33:00 GMT Hello everyone, today I’d like to talk to you about the recent enhancements to Die export in the Virtuoso RF Solution, most of which were released in ICADVM 18.1 ISR10. What’s the background for these enhancements? Exporting an abstract of a Die, which basically represents the outer boundary of the Die with I/O locations, as an intermediate file to exchange information between various Cadence tools (i.e., the Innovus, Virtuoso, and Allegro platforms) is not a new feature. This capability existed even prior to the Virtuoso RF Solution. However, the entire functionality was rewritten from scratch when we first started developing the Virtuoso RF Solution because the previous feature was deemed archaic, its performance and capacity needed to be enhanced, and use model needed to be modernized. This effort has been made in various phases, with the last round being completed and released in ICADVM18.1 ISR10.(read more) Full Article ICADVM18.1 die export Virtuoso Meets Maxwell Advanced Node Virtuoso RF Wirebond Virtuoso System Design Environment shape-based die RF design Custom IC Design SKILL
