First ETSI C-V2X interoperability event tests ETSI ITS and 3GPP standards

ETSI, with experts from its Center for Testing and Interoperability, in partnership with the 5GAA, is organizing the first C‑V2X Plugtests^TM event.

Hosted by DEKRA in its Connected Vehicle Test Development Centre in Malaga from 2-6 December 2019, the event will enable vendors to run interoperability test sessions to assess the level of interoperability of their implementations and validate their understanding of the standards. Interoperability testing checks that devices built to the same standards can work together and provide the functionalities specified in the standards.

Today, ETSI unveils a new white paper, written by the officials of the ETSI EP eHealth group, highlighting the role of standards developing organizations (SDOs) in developing standards for ICT to mitigate the impact of a pandemic. COVID-19 is not a mild pandemic, it is a serious, often lethal, health condition, the impact of which is seriously detrimental to social and economic life across the world. ETSI releases world-leading Consumer IoT Security standard

The ETSI Technical Committee on Cybersecurity (TC CYBER) today unveils ETSI EN 303 645, a standard for cybersecurity in the Internet of Things that establishes a security baseline for internet-connected consumer products and provides a basis for future IoT certification schemes. Based on the ETSI specification TS 103 645, EN 303 645 went through National Standards Organization comments and voting, engaging even more stakeholders in its development and ultimately strengthening the resulting standard. The EN is a result of collaboration and expertise from industry, academics and government.

New ETSI white paper: Harmonizing standards for edge computing, a synergized architecture leveraging ETSI ISG MEC and 3GPP specifications

Members and officials of the ETSI Multi-access Edge Computing group and the 3GPP SA WG6 have just published a new white paper which aims to harmonize standards for edge computing. The white paper highlights the role of standards for edge when edge computing is deployed in conjunction with mobile networks. It also reviews the leading efforts in the industry and introduces a synergized architecture which leverages the ETSI ISG MEC and 3GPP specifications. ETSI Report Paves the Way for First World Standards in Securing Artificial Intelligence

The ETSI Securing Artificial Intelligence Industry Specification Group (SAI ISG) last month released its first Group Report, ETSI GR SAI 004, which gives an overview of the problem statement regarding the securing of AI. ETSI SAI is the first standardization initiative dedicated to securing AI.

The Report describes the problem of securing AI-based systems and solutions, with a focus on machine learning, and the challenges relating to confidentiality, integrity and availability at each stage of the machine learning lifecycle. It also points out some of the broader challenges of AI systems including bias, ethics and ability to be explained. A number of different attack vectors are outlined, as well as several cases of real-world use and attacks.

ETSI releases two Technical Reports to support US NIST standards for post-quantum cryptography

In 2016 the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced their intention to develop new standards for post-quantum cryptography. They subsequently initiated a competition-like standardization process with a call for proposals for quantum-safe digital signatures, public-key encryption schemes, and key encapsulation mechanisms. NIST have stated that they intend to select quantum-safe schemes for standardization at the end of the current, third round of evaluation.

ETSI releases test specification to comply with world-leading Consumer IoT Security standard

ETSI has released the test specification for the existing ETSI EN 303 645, the world leading consumer IoT security standard. This test specification, ETSI TS 103 701, describes how a conformity assessment is performed in a structured and comprehensive way. This will allow supplier organizations such as manufacturers, vendors or distributers to assess the compliance of their devices against ETSI ETSI EN 303 645 in self-assessments or via testing labs. User organizations can also apply the test specification for in-house testing.

ETSI Announces Second Release on Self-Adapting Autonomous Networks

Following on from meetings conducted in late 2021, ETSI has now completed Release 2 of its Experiential Networked Intelligence (ENI) specifications with the system architecture ETSI GS ENI 005. 

ETSI GS ENI 005 and associated documents will provide better insight into network operations - allowing more effective closed-loop decision making plus better lifecycle management. Through its use, operators will be able to leverage acquired data and apply artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to it. This will mean that they can respond much quicker to changing situations and gain far greater agility. The services being delivered across their networks may thereby be rapidly adapted and the resources they have available correctly assigned in accordance with subscribers’ requirements, or any other alterations in circumstances (either operationally or commercially driven).

ETSI Advanced Mobile Location standard now permits European smartphones to send caller location in emergency calls

Since 17 March all smartphones sold in Europe are required to comply with Advanced Mobile Location for emergency communications. AML was standardized in ETSI TS 103 625 by the ETSI technical committee on emergency communications (EMTEL) in December 2019.
