Labourers’ plight contrasts with affluent Indians flown home from abroad in coronavirus crisis

Migrant labourers in Indian cities whose incomes have plummeted as a result of anti-coronavirus lockdown measures have been told that they will have to pay to board special trains taking them back to their homes in the countryside.

The decision has prompted derision in India, where most labourers live off what they earn in a day and have been surviving on state handouts.

With no trains or buses to take them home, India’s rural-to-urban migrant population, estimated at a staggering 120 million, took to the roads. On 5 April a statement from the home ministry said 1.25 million people moving between states had been put up in camps and shelters.

(LAWRENCE) The Haskell Football season will come to a close tomorrow, Saturday November 10^th 2012, as the Indians take on Trinity Bible College. Kick-off will be at 1:00pm at Haskell Memorial Field.

New Athletic Director Todd Davis met with 25 players from last year's team on Thursday to discuss the institution's recent decision on football.  Haskell Indian Nations University suspended the program on June 12 and some questions still lingered about the future of football at the institution.  "I just felt like the players needed to hear from the Athletic Department," said Davis.  "Anybody that represents Haskell in intercollegiate athletics has my attention and respect."

Lawrence, Kansas – The Haskell men's cross country team finished in 8th place with 228 points at the Haskell Invitational at Billy Mills Trail Course on Saturday.

Winfield, Kansas – The Haskell men's cross country team finished in 17th place with 463 points at the NAIA Mid-States Classic on Saturday, October 21st.

Bettendorf, Iowa – The Haskell men's cross country team finished in 4th place with 102 points at the Association of Independent Institutions Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
