Man arrested, charged in connection with pair of break-ins at Thunder Bay health unit

A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with two break-ins at the Thunder Bay District Health unit offices, the Thunder Bay Police Service announced in a written release Friday.

Computer Security Day 2014

Computer Security Day is an annual event that is observed worldwide on the 30th November. It is designed to raise awareness and to promote best practices in Information Security. The event provides insight into the privacy and security issues surrounding electronically stored sensitive information and offers ways to keep your computer and data safe. To observe this day, CERT-MU, a division of the National Computer Board organised the following events:
 
  • A full day Cyber Security Conference on the 28th November 2014 targeting Business Executive, Senior Management and Information Security Professionals at the Kestrel Hall, Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, Pailles.

  • An exhibition to showcase the latest products on Information Security on the 28th November 2014 at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre.

  • A professional training programme on Digital Forensics Investigation Professional in the first week of December 2014.
     

The cyber security conference, exhibition and professional training are being organised in collaboration with Symantec, Secure Services (Mauritius) Limited, Harel Mallac Technologies, Orange, Oracle, Check Point, McAfee, SafeNet and CyberArk.

 
During the full day Cyber Security Conference, distinguished speakers from Mauritius and abroad have been invited to discuss the current challenges and future opportunities in cyber-security. The range of topics that will be covered will allow the participants to:
 
  • Acquire knowledge and to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies on the field of Information Security.
  • Gain an understanding to better safeguard their most valuable information asset.
  • Opportunities to engage with speakers and other attendees during the event.

Workshop on Access Control & Identity Management

The National Computer Board conducted a workshop on Access Control & Identity Management on the 30th June 2015 at the Conference Hall, Cyber Tower 1, Ebène. The workshop was targeted towards IT Professionals, System Administrators, Network & Database Administrators and IT Security Professionals. The aim of the workshop was to bring together international and local IT Security Professionals to share their knowledge and experiences around the recent developments in the area of Access Control and Identity Management. On this occasion, an exposition was also organised to showcase the latest security products available in the market.

Computer Security Day 2015

The Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) a division of the National Computer Board operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation organised a cybersecurity conference and an exhibition on the occasion of the Computer Security Day on 30th November 2015 at the Conference Hall, Cyber Tower 1, Ebene. The objective of the event was to raise awareness and promote best practices in Information Security and it was targeted towards IT Professionals, System Administrators, Network & Database Administrators and IT Security Professionals. The cyber security conference was officially opened by Dr. M. Soobron, Ag. Chief Technology Officer of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation and was attended by some 140 participants.

Technical Colloquium 2016

The Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius, a division of the National Computer Board operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication & Innovation hosted the Forum of Incident Response & Security Teams (FIRST) Technical Colloquium, a three-day event on cybersecurity for the 1st time in Mauritius from 22 – 24th November 2016 at Le Meridien Hotel, Point aux Piments. This event was organised in collaboration with the Forum of Incident Response & Security Teams (FIRST), USA and supported by our stakeholders namely Symantec, Secure Services (Mauritius) Ltd, ORACLE & USERTECH Solutions. The event was conducted over three days which comprised of a Cybersecurity conference on the 1st day and two training programmes on the other 2 days. The 2 training programmes that were conducted were Practical Dynamic Analysis of Modern Malware with Free Tools and Introduction & Set-up of CSIRT. The event was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Technology, Communication & Innovation, Mrs. Rooba Yanembal Moorghen. Some 90 participants were present during the Cybersecurity conference and 60 IT Professionals have attended both training programmes.

Launching of the Mauritian Cybercrime Online Reporting System (MAUCORS) and Cyber Drill for Top Management

The Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) organised the launching ceremony for the Mauritian Cybercrime Online Reporting System (MAUCORS) and a Cyber Drill for Top Management in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at Le Meridien Hotel on Thursday 15th March 2018. The Mauritian Cybercrime Online Reporting System (MAUCORS) was officially launched by Honourable Yogida Sawmynaden, Minister of Technology, Communication & Innovation. This system will help to coordinate and resolve social media incidents efficiently. This system has been developed by the CERT-MU and is one of the key initiative under the newly drafted Cybercrime Strategy that sets out the Government’s approach to combat cybercrime in Mauritius. The cyber drill for top management was also officially opened by Honourable Yogida Sawmynaden, Minister of Technology, Communication & Innovation on the same day. Professor Dr. Marco Gercke conducted the cyber drill for top management of organisations. The objective of this drill was to demonstrate the top executives to assess organizations’ preparedness to resist cyber threats and enable timely detection, response, and mitigation and recovery actions in the event of cyber-attacks. The launching ceremony was attended by around 70 participants and the cyber drill was attended by 55 participants.
