2024年10月31日、電子コミックのプラットフォームWEBTOONを提供するWEBTOON Entertainment社が、触って楽しむことのできる電子コミック（tactile digital comics）を韓国のベンチャー企業Dot Inc.と共同で作成したと発表しました。

発表によると、これは視覚障害者向けに画像を点字に変換して表現するDot Inc.の技術を活用した取組です。今回作成されたのは電子コミックシリーズ“Yumi’s Cells”と“Hooky”の2タイトルで、Dot Inc.の点字ディスプレイDot Padで利用可能となる予定とあります。

2024年10月24日、英国においてリテラシーの改善運動を実施している団体National Literacy Trust（NLT）が、2024年の英国の子ども及び若者の読書に関する報告書“Children and young people’s reading in 2024”を公開しました。

報告書は、NLTの2024年の年次識字調査（Annual Literacy Survey）に対する5歳から18歳までの子どもと若者からの7万6,131件の回答に基づき作成されました。

主な調査結果として、以下のようなものが挙げられています。

・ 余暇に読書を楽しんでいると答えたのは、8～18歳では3人に1人（34.6％）であった。2023年から8.8ポイント減少しており、2005年の調査開始以来の最低水準であった。
・ 毎日余暇に何かしらの読書をしていると答えたのは、8～18歳では5人に1人（20.5％）であった。2023年から7.5ポイント減少しており、2005年の調査開始以来の最低水準であった。
・ 8～14歳では、読書を楽しんでいる子どもや若者は、読書を楽しんでいない子どもや若者よりも、読解力が高かった。

同会議には、2024年4月に出された研究情報のオープン化に関するバルセロナ宣言（“Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information”）の署名者や支援団体らが参加しました。オープンな研究情報の作成や管理、利活用に関する経験やベストプラクティスが共有されるとともに、宣言の内容を実現するためのロードマップ策定に向けた議論が行われたとあります。
