Terry Allison dedicated 50 years of his mathematics career to teaching at Penn State York. The campus community was saddened to learn of his passing on May 22, shortly after he retired from the University.

Conducting research as an undergraduate can be daunting, but Sierra Wright and a group of Penn State students from across the state jumped in feet first this summer through the Multi-Campus Research Experience for Undergraduates.

Charlie Keller-Golden became an orphan in his senior year of high school and was taken in by a family who lives near Penn State’s York campus. Keller-Golden enrolled at that campus, where he was immediately connected with the University’s Fostering Lions Program. The program expands access to education and provides proactive and comprehensive support for foster youth at Penn State. 

Liam Geyer, a fifth-year Integrated Undergraduate/Graduate student majoring in cybersecurity analytics and operations, leveraged his involvement in the Competitive Cybersecurity Organization at Penn State to land internships and full-time employment. 

A team of Penn State researchers has been selected to lead a three-year, $8,552,388 multi-institution project funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to identify cognitive threats in mixed-reality systems as part of the Intrinsic Cognitive Security program.

Romit Maulik, an assistant professor in the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology, was granted a three-year, $360,000 Early Career Program Award from the Army Research Office.

Penn State’s Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CSRAI) will host “Diagnose-a-thon,” a competition that aims to uncover the power and potential dangers of using generative AI for medical inquiries. The virtual event will take place Nov. 11-17 with top prizes of $1,000.  

The Penn State Behrend women’s soccer team is 4-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Play. The Lions have shut out their opponents in the last three matches, including a 10-0 win over Pitt-Bradford.

A $5 million endowment and estate gift has created Penn State Behrend's first named school directorship: The James R. Meehl Director of the School of Engineering. The fund also will support Behrend's School of Science.

The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 4-0 defeat of Pitt-Greensburg on Oct. 20. The win earned the Lions their first conference title since 2000.

The Penn State Behrend women’s bowling team won two matches against D’Youville on Oct. 26. The Lions lost the Baker-format match, 1-4.

Penn State Behrend’s cross-country teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds on Nov. 2. The men’s team claimed a fifth-consecutive title. The women’s team won a sixth-straight title.

As president of Penn State Behrend’s Student Government Association, Zane Lewis is a conduit between students and the college’s administration. “My role is to act as a voice and to advocate for their issues,” he says.

Penn State Behrend’s soccer teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships on Nov. 9 and will advance to the NCAA Division III tournament. The men’s team defeated Alfred State, winning 5-4 in a penalty-kick shootout. The women’s team defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 4-0.

National Cyber Director Harry Coker, Jr. met with representatives from Penn State and local technology companies to discuss the importance of tech and cyber education in the commonwealth. 

Sixteen recent graduates were selected by the Penn State Alumni Association as Young Alumni Ambassadors for the 2024-25 academic year. August 2024, December 2024 and May 2025 graduates are encouraged to apply for the 2025-26 class of ambassadors when applications become available.

Dr. Elizabeth Zona will present “Beyond the Buzz: Understanding Alcohol’s Impact on Students” at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Penn State Beaver Auditorium. Zona, a 2002 Penn State graduate, is a double board-certified physician, specializing in both anesthesiologist and addiction medicine. Her appearance is part of an ongoing program funded through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s Reducing Underage Drinking and Dangerous Drinking Grant.
