Avec Austerlitz, la victoire en marchant, tout est montré et expliqué avec minutie à l'aide d'impressionnantes reconstitutions, de commentaires d'historiens, de cartes, de maquettes et d'archives (dont des extraits de films d'Abel Gance, de King Vidor ou de Bondartchuk). Un docu-fiction qui séduit par l'humanité donnée aux principaux protagonistes, (Napoléon en tête, interprété avec talent par Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu) et par le rythme imprégné de l’une de plus impressionnantes épopées militaires de tous les temps.

Synopsis

En 1805, Napoléon n’est empereur que depuis un an. L’Angleterre le défie. Napoléon veut l’envahir. Mais il n’arrive pas à franchir la Manche. Alors il retourne soudain l’immense armée qu’il avait massé dans le camp de Boulogne pour la diriger vers les empires que Londres a coalisé contre lui par l’argent : l’Autriche et la Russie. Comment, après trois mois d’une marche à grandes enjambées de 1 500 kilomètres et un chapelet de batailles (toutes victorieuses) Napoléon et sa Grande Armée arrivent-ils à écraser, chez elle, une coalition de troupes plus fraîches et supérieures en nombre ?

Docu-fiction à grand spectacle, le film de Jean-François Delassus alterne reconstitutions dans les décors naturels, interventions d’historiens et images d’archives, issues de vieux films russes ou de gravures et caricatures anglaises. Le point de vue pédagogique est parfaitement amené, avec un recours judicieux aux cartes, associées aux commentaires des historiens.

Entre épopée et légende, Austerlitz, la victoire en marchant raconte la marche la plus longue et la plus rapide de l’histoire de la guerre. Un « Blitzkrieg » qui mena à une victoire éblouissante : celle que Napoléon et sa Grande Armée remportent sur les armées russes et autrichiennes le 2 décembre 1805, à Austerlitz, au fin fond de l’Europe et de l’hiver.
