The ADVANCE Act, signed last month, is landmark bipartisan legislation directing us to become more efficient while retaining our fundamental mission of safety regulation. Mike King is the NRC’s point person for implementing the Act. Mike reports to our Executive Director for Operations and will be coordinating resources and setting the strategy, including assessing staff ideas and creative solutions, breaking down barriers and establishing working groups to implement changes. Some of those changes will come quickly, while others will take time to fully implement. Mike has been with us for nearly 20 years and previously was a Navy submarine officer.

Located in northern Saskatchewan, it is one of the world’s largest high-grade uranium mines. The uranium from this mine is processed at the Key Lake Mill – which she also visited -- with the fuel supporting Canada’s nuclear power sector, which includes the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station – another stop on the itinerary.
