em Ransomware Ecosystem By www.tenable.com Published On :: Wed, 22 Jun 2022 09:00:00 -0400 Ransomware has evolved into an ecosystem with multiple players and an expanded threat model. Ransomware groups now deploy a double extortion technique, where they both encrypt and exfiltrate their victims’ data. The Tenable Security Research Team has released a report that enumerates common vulnerabilities exploited by ransomware affiliates and groups. The Ransomware Ecosystem report enables organizations to quickly scan for the vulnerabilities commonly exploited by ransomware groups. Organizations with effective Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans are protected against threats to availability of data, which can come in many forms, such as natural disasters, hardware failures, or malicious attacks. These organizations could recover operations from a traditional ransomware attack without paying the ransom. However, the vulnerabilities that gave ransomware groups the opportunity to successfully penetrate the infrastructure may still leave organizations open to significant risk. Like any good business, ransomware players discovered the advantage of threatening data confidentiality by publishing samples of their targets’ sensitive data and threatening to expose all the data unless they are paid. Threat actors understand the economic advantage of investing in the ransomware ecosystem, becoming more sophisticated and efficient over time. Organizations often struggle to secure a budget for resources needed to protect their infrastructure and prevent attacks from succeeding. The Ransomware Ecosystem report displays assets by plugin family along with associated vulnerabilities. Operations teams use this information to evaluate risk based on the organization’s business priorities. The ability to rapidly mitigate vulnerabilities requires data to be presented in a concise manner focused on findings that pose the greatest risk to the organization. Risk managers leverage risk-based vulnerability management platforms to prioritize mitigation efforts. This report is available in the Tenable.sc Feed, a comprehensive collection of dashboards, reports, Assurance Report Cards, and assets. The report can be easily located in the Tenable.sc Feed under the category Compliance & Configuration Assessments. The report requirements are: Tenable.sc 5.18.0 Nessus 8.14.0 Tenable.sc enables organizations to quickly identify and locate vulnerabilities in their infrastructure. This report displays the most common vulnerabilities sorted by platform type that are commonly exploited by ransomware groups. Security leaders need to SEE everything, PREDICT what matters most and ACT to address cyber risk and effectively align cybersecurity initiatives with business objectives. Chapters Executive Summary Chapter – Contains information from the Ransomware Ecosystem Dashboard that uses the CVE and Plugin Family filters to display counts of the vulnerabilities and assets that have been affected by ransomware. em Outstanding Remediations Tracking By www.tenable.com Published On :: Thu, 19 Sep 2024 08:00:00 -0400 One of the common questions often asked of the IT team is “how many systems are missing patches and how many patches are missing on each system?” This dashboard uses the “Patch Report” plugin and organizes the current patch status for systems scanned with credentials. The IT team can now easily communicate the specific systems with missing patches to executives. The Nessus "Patch Report" plugin (66334) elegantly summarizes all of the missing patches and general remediation actions required to remediate the discovered vulnerabilities on a given host. Instead of counting the number of vulnerabilities, the plugin lists applications that need to be upgraded. The approach is not only much easier for IT administrators to consume, but the count of applications provides a measure of how much "work" is required to secure a system. The dashboard provides risk guidance using the “Remediation Summary” tool. This tool works by employing a concept called “top patch”. Tenable Security Center uses proprietary technology to identify a chain of patches. The first patch in the chain is called the “top patch”. If the “top patch” is applied, all subsequent vulnerabilities will also be remediated at the same time. Using both the Remediation Summary tool and “Patch Report” plugin, the organization can better plan remediation efforts. The dashboard and its components are available in the Tenable Security Center Feed, a comprehensive collection of dashboards, reports, assurance report cards and assets. The dashboard can be easily located in the Tenable Security Center Feed under the category Executive. The dashboard requirements are:Tenable Security CenterNessusThis dashboard requires “Full Text Search” to be enabled for each analyzed repository. Please note the "Full Text Search" option must be enabled for the repository to support the trending component.Tenable Security Center has the ability to identify all discoverable vulnerabilities, eliminating blind spots. Tenable detects missing patches, incorrect configurations, lapsed defenses, incomplete monitoring and network intruders—so you can mitigate them. Tenable Security Center can show risk across all systems, enabling informed decisions. Tenable’s approach to continuous monitoring reaches across cloud, virtual, mobile and traditional systems and measures attack vectors in each of these domains. Tenable Security Center provides a unique combination of detection, reporting, and pattern recognition utilizing industry recognized algorithms and models. By providing that single point of data collection, Tenable.sc enables sharing of vulnerability scanning results across the technical groups and business owners. Tenable.sc is continuously updated with information about advanced threats and zero-day vulnerabilities, and new types of regulatory compliance configuration audits. ComponentsRemediations Tracking - Top 25 Remediations: This component provides the top 25 remediation actions that can be taken to reduce overall risk. The table is sorted using vulnerability weight scores, which are calculated differently for each organization. To determine score weights, login with the admin account, edit your organization and then select “Analysis”. In the upper right hand corner, there are four scores, one for each severity level. The default scores are: critical = 40, high = 10, medium = 3 and low = 1. The vulnerability weight helps to determine a fully calculated score used in risk analysis. The Outstanding Remediations - Time Since Patch Publication (Assets) matrix displays the total count of missing patches across the environment. The matrix is comprised of five columns. The first column provides a count of the vulnerabilities that are exploitable, and the last four columns provide counts of vulnerabilities based on Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR) levels. VPR scores are displayed as column headers in traditional severity text. Critical represents VPR 9-10, High represents VPR 7-8.9, Medium represents VPR 4-6.9, and Low represents VPR 0.1-3.9. Each row filters the vulnerabilities based on the patch publication date of less than 30 days ago, Current Quarter, Last Quarter, Current Year, Last Year, and greater than 365 Days. The End of Life Software Detection table displays a list of software that is no longer supported by the vendor. The table is sorted by the count column, which lists a count of the total number of assets affected by the unsupported software package. The filter used is for Plugin Name equals Unsupported. Tenable recommends that assets found here be upgraded to a higher supported version as soon as possible, since vendors no longer list active vulnerabilities for end-of-life software. The Outstanding Remediations by Device Type (Vulnerabilities) matrix displays the total count of missing patches by device type. There is a row present which groups devices by type, such as Linux, Windows, or macOS devices. Counts present in each cell represents the number of vulnerabilities present for the device group and VPR score. Full Article

em Poems : new and selected / Ron Rash. By library.gcpl.lib.oh.us Published On :: "A collection of haunting lyricism that evokes the beauty and hardship of the rural South, by a revered American master of letters— the award-winning, bestselling author of the novels Serena, Something Rich and Strange, and Above the Waterfall. In this incandescent, profound, and accessible collection, beloved and award-winning poet, novelist, and short-story writer Ron Rash vividly channels the rhythms of life in Appalachia, deftly capturing the panoply of individuals who are its heart and soul— men and women inured to misfortune and hard times yet defined by tremendous fortitude, resilience, and a fierce sense of community. In precise, supple language that swerves from the stark to the luminous, Rash richly describes the splendor of the natural landscape and poignantly renders the lives of those dependent on its bounty— in cotton mills and tobacco fields, farmlands and forests. The haunting memories and shared histories of these people— their rituals and traditions— animate this land, and are celebrated in Rash’s crystalline, intensely imagined verse. With an eye for the surprising and vivid detail, Ron Rash powerfully captures the sorrows and exaltations of this wondrous world he knows intimately. Illuminating and indelible, Poems demonstrates his rich talents and confirms his legacy as a standard-bearer for the literature of the American South." -- Description provided by publisher. em Yarn (November 13, 2024 8:00pm) By events.umich.edu Published On :: Mon, 05 Aug 2024 11:05:41 -0400 Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 8:00pm Location: ARK Reserved Organized By: Michigan Union Ticket Office (MUTO) “These artists know when to add country fuel & when to keep the rock n’ roll octane soaking slowly.” –Americana Highways You might expect a band that calls itself Yarn to, naturally, tend to spin a yarn or two. “That’s what we do, we tell stories, live and in the studio, truth and fiction”, singer/songwriter Blake Christiana insists. “We don’t always opt for consistency. There’s a different vibe onstage from what comes through in our recordings. There’s a difference in every show as well, you never know what you’re going to get.” Yarn’s ability to persevere ought to come as no great surprise, especially for a band that spent two years honing their chops during a Monday night residency at the famed Kenny’s Castaway in New York’s Greenwich Village. In effect, it allowed them to rehearse onstage, mostly in front of audiences that often ranged in size from five to a hundred people on any given night. 10 studio albums followed. The band then took to the road, playing upwards of 170 shows a year at any number of prestigious venues. They have landed on the Grammy ballot 4 times, garnered nods from the Americana Music Association, placed top five on both Radio and Records and the AMA album charts, been streamed millions of times on Spotify, and accorded the “Download of the Day” from Rolling Stone. Shine the Light On found shared songwriting credits with John Oates (the Oates of Hall & Oates fame), and when audiences expressed their admiration, it brought the band a populist cult following of diehard devotees, popularly known as “the Yarmy.” It’s proof positive that the Brooklyn and Raleigh based band have made their mark, and in dealing with their emotions, scars and circumstances, they find themselves in a position to share those experiences with others who have juggled similar sentiments. em For Us, By Us: Envisioning a Kiki Methodology in Black Queer Storytelling (November 13, 2024 6:30pm) By events.umich.edu Published On :: Fri, 01 Nov 2024 17:15:24 -0400 Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 6:30pm Location: Museum of Art Organized By: Spectrum Center Who are you? What is your story? How do you express yourself? The experiences of Black queer life are reflected in the ways we tell our stories. We will explore a kiki methodology grounded in ballroom culture and Black queer storytelling. Drawing from queer of color critique and narrative construction, kiki methodology engages in three components: Black queer meaning-making, Black queer storytelling, and Black queer artistic expression. Kiki methodology connects envisioning and centering words, feelings, and voices of the Black queer community in the form of storytelling in higher education. We will engage about what is needed to be in queer community and kinship through storytelling. ABOUT DR. HUTCHINGS Dr. Quortne R. em Engendering Respectful Communities - AY24 - 25 Workshops (November 13, 2024 6:00pm) By events.umich.edu Published On :: Wed, 13 Nov 2024 06:20:38 -0500 Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 6:00pm Location: 2001 Literature Science and the Arts Building; 500 S State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109 Organized By: Sessions @ Michigan Engendering Respectful Communities (ERC) is a one session workshop that engages graduate students in meaningful dialogue about various forms of sexual misconduct they may encounter in both professional and social spaces, and provides resources for intervention or support in such circumstances. The primary goal of the workshop is to address complexities experienced by graduate students as they engage in bystander intervention, so that participants gain an increase in awareness of barriers to action and familiarity with strategic planning to overcome them. The workshop also introduces participants to on-campus resources and provides knowledge on how sexual misconduct can unfold in graduate-specific settings. The ERC workshop uses small-group circles intended to promote active reflection and space to build community. The procedure of circles is introduced at the beginning of the workshop in order to help participants get used to the process, which they do through a circle for introductions and value-sharing for the workshop space. These circles depict various, realistic scenarios related to sexual misconduct within the graduate community. The circle process allows circle members to process the monologues, reflect on complexities with identity and power dynamics within them, name potential barriers to intervention, and think of various ways in which they might respond if faced with similar situations. The circles provide a way to foster collective building of ideas, where participants learn from one another and all input is equally valued. Participants are encouraged to share but can always pass if desired, creating an environment where participation is open but not forced. Due to the participatory nature of the workshop, if you are to arrive more than 20 minutes late, we will ask you to re-register for another workshop session. If you have any questions about or concerns with taking this workshop, or are in need of an exemption, please contact jhippe@umich.edu or fill out this form. We know some students come to campus having already experienced harm. If you have circumstances that make completing this course challenging, please reach out to the GROPWE team. SAPAC GROWE provides exemptions to the ERC workshop (where requirements are set in place) on a case by case basis. The Program Manager will communicate with students requesting exemptions via email and/or meet with students via zoom meetings to discuss their need for exemptions and provide any relevant and necessary resources.
