Apple makes room for new Macs by rethinking retail Vision Pro demo stations

Apple is set to streamline its retail displays, making way for new Mac models by downgrading the Apple Vision Pro demo experience.

Apple Vision Pro

Starting November 8, Apple will pilot a revised store layout in select retail locations, merging the Vision Pro demo and display tables. The shift will make space for the latest Mac products, including the M4 models.

The new format will reduce the two separate Vision Pro tables — a layout for demo and display units — into a single, multifunctional table. Along with accommodating new Mac displays, Apple's move will address low Vision Pro sales.

Two senior presidential campaign officials' iPhones maybe hacked by Chinese group

Evidence suggests that the earlier Chinese Salt Typhoon breach of American telecoms may have led to the potential hacking of two presidential campaign officials' iPhones.

iPhones potentially breached

Whether the hack actually happened, what data might have been obtained, or which officials were breached have not been revealed. The FBI is investigating claims by a security startup called iVerify that tie the events together.

According to a report from Forbes, iVerify flagged anomalous behavior on two iPhones belonging to senior officials for one of the presidential candidates. Settings had been changed on the iPhones in "patterns that are not observed on healthy devices."

iPhones stored for forensic analysis unexpectedly reboot, causing problems for police

Multiple iPhone units stored for forensic analysis have rebooted themselves, causing concern among law enforcement officials that Apple has a new security feature.

iPhones stored for forensic analysis have reportedly begun rebooting themselves.

The phones in question had a few things in common, they were all running iOS 18.0, and they had been disconnected from cellular networks for some time. They were sent into a forensics lab on October 3, 2024.

The affected devices even included one that was in Airplane Mode and another that was kept in a Faraday cage, which prevents electrical signals from accessing the device. While it's most likely that the devices began boot-looping or that they ran low on battery, officials believe the restarts were caused by something else entirely.

A Mac mini seen on an iMac screen

Typical. You wait ages for a new Mac and three of them turn up — to mixed reviews. That's not mixed as in some reviews are critical while others are not, it's that some are fulsome while others are begrudging.

Apple Vision Pro 2 with M5 chip likely to arrive before budget models

Apple is likely to launch a refreshed Apple Vision Pro headset before a cheaper version of the product arrives, according to a new report.

An updated Apple Vision Pro could sport an M5 chip and other improvements.

Apple is believed to be working on "several ideas" for its overall Apple Vision product line and its future intentions. Currently, it is expected that an updated Apple Vision Pro will be the first, ahead of a rumored cheaper "Apple Vision" headset.

The next Apple Vision Pro would likely sport an M5 processor and other internal changes, but would otherwise be very similar to the existing model. It's expected to arrive in late 2025, reports Bloomberg, or the spring of 2026.

Battery problems threaten the iPhone Slim and iPhone Fold

A new rumor claims that both Apple and Samsung are having difficulty making thinner batteries, thereby limiting just how thin phones like the expected iPhone 17 Slim can be.

Renders of what the iPhone 17 Slim could look like

What's currently rumored to be called the iPhone 17 Slim is believed to be an iPhone with a 6.6-inch screen, and to be significantly thinner than regular iPhones. Just how thin has not been known, but a new rumor says battery problems may mean it can be no less than 6mm.

The rumor comes from yeux1122, who has a mixed track record — most recently claiming the Apple Ring project is still on, and regularly if erroneously claiming that there will be a 2TB version of the Pro iPhone models.

Trump tariffs will raise prices, but Apple has set the table to avoid the worst of it

Proposed tariffs under the Trump administration could trigger considerable price increases for consumer electronics in the United States, though Apple may be able to weather the storm.

Apple CEO Tim Cook [left] with Donald Trump [right]

During his first time in office, President Donald Trump's trade war with China resulted in price increases. While there were threats that Apple's products would be dinged by tariffs, Tim Cook's regular Trump talks helped Apple avoid being hurt by the import charges.

For Trump's second term in office, it seems that a similar situation could happen again, with Chinese imports being hit with high tariffs. However, this time Apple is in a much better position.
