All Things Startup

Skype wasn’t kind to us this week so sincere apologies for the sound quality. We are instigating new audio fiedlity procedure moving forward! This week we discuss Teux Deux moving to a payment model, the demise of Google Reader, startup media icons and Kieran manages to top all previous “and finally” items.

ar

Celebrities on KickStarter

This weeks show is kindly supported by Insites: ConfShop — A unique one day event for web workers focused on openness, sharing and learning taking place in London on Friday July 5th. Tickets are limited to 100 and are available for £125.

In this episode we tell you about our new “studio”, discuss the route to inner nirvana (no really), the “problem” of celebrities on KickStarter and ask whether Ghost is the future of blogging as we know it.

Thanks again to Insites: ConfShop for supporting this weeks episode.

The Problem of Overfunding on KickStarter

As the web appears to have gone on holiday we present a mixed bag of goodness on Episode 010. We lament the loss of one of our zero’s, Kieran brings forth the news and the funny and we engage in a almost academic level of discourse on the issues associated with overfunding on crowdfunding platforms. Also included – a bit of Startup talk, a new Mac code editor, the new Royal baby and our first ever competition.

Lunchbox Competition

To enter the Back to Front Show lunchbox giveaway simply tweet the answer to the following question before Friday 2nd August 2013. All correct answers will be entered into the draw. If nobody guesses correctly the closest response will win.

Question: What is the height difference in inches between Kieran and Keir?

The One with Marc

In our first episode of 2014 I am joined by new guest co-host Marc Roberts of Neutron Creations. After a lengthy chat about his rather special coat we moved onto more web related links and finished up with a discussion on node.js. Big thanks for Marc for taking the time to come on the show.

ar

Happy New Year

Like the proverbial phoenix, we have risen! Kieran is back and we finally wish each other a happy new year. This episode we try and get to the bottom of why we weren’t nominated for a Net Award, this as you might imagine takes a while.

We ask the other burning question of the week, that being is Harry Roberts (the one and only CSS Wizard) really under 25. We also manage to chat about some of the recent happenings in the web industry – no really we do. It’s good to be back.

ar

Around The Web

In the first of our bi-weekly links shows we chat about the latest news on the Editorially team, have some friendly banter about startup culture and Kieran delves into the world of devices.

If you have a link for us feel free to get in touch on Twitter and Facebook.

ar

Around The Web

After discussing Kieran’s classic 90’s Peugeot 306 Turbo Diesel we turn our focus back to six cuts from our web travels. This week featuring the finest in USB protection and 15 of the best productivity hacks money can’t buy.

If you like our show please feel free to leave us a review on iTunes.

ar

Around The Web

This week it’s our links show in which we ask the question “does having a beard make you a better dev” as well as discuss a very meta podcast and a new team collaboration tool. You may notice a slight audio disparity towards the end. Unfortunately, Kieran’s Yeti cable fell out (professional to the end) a new mic is on order!

If you like our show please feel free to leave us a review on iTunes.

ar

Around the Web

Happy 2015! We are back for the new year with a look at four links that caught our attention over the holiday season. We also spill the beans on some of the topics we’ll be covering this year.

Featured in this weeks episode:

If you like our little show we’d very much appreciate a review on iTunes if you have time. Thanks!

The Gavin Ballard Special

This episode is dedicated to our favourite Australian Gavin Ballard — all round good guy, world traveller, bon viveur and last but by no means least Shopify Expert. Gavin is a long time listener (we still aren’t sure why) and friend of the show. If we had a pin badge and sticker “care package” he’d be the first recipient!

Topics covered in this mega-length show include the weather in the South West, Skype video, our favourite NYC diners, the use of technology in the bathroom, career paths for developers, and more.

If you would like a show dedicated to you please let us know via the comment link below and we’ll undoubtedly make it happen.

Back Stories with Marc Thiele

Welcome to Back Stories — a new series of one on one interviews hosted by Keir Whitaker (one-half of the team behind The Back to Front Show).

Each episode, unlike the usual show, will come in at 30 minutes and will attempt to delve into the interesting lives of people working in the web, design, tech, publishing, and creative industries.

In this first episode, Keir chats with Marc Thiele — long-time friend and the man behind the Beyond Tellerrand series of web conferences. There’s plenty of ground covered including the early 8 bit days, Flash, events, and more.
