Trump's team drawing up list of Pentagon officers to fire: Sources

WASHINGTON — Members of President-elect Donald Trump's transition team are drawing up a list of military officers to be fired, potentially to include the Joint Chiefs of Staff, two sources said, in what would be an unprecedented shakeup at the Pentagon. The planning for the firings is at an early stage after Trump's Nov 5 election victory and could change as Trump's administration takes shape, said the sources, who are familiar with the Trump transition and requested anonymity to speak candidly about the plans. One of the sources questioned the feasibility of a mass firing at the Pentagon. It was also unclear if Trump himself would endorse the plan, although in the past he has railed extensively against defence leaders who have criticised him. Trump has also spoken during the campaign of firing "woke" generals and those responsible for the troubled 2021 pullout from Afghanistan. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Trump taps loyalists with few qualifications for top jobs

US President-elect Donald Trump chose loyalists with little experience for several key cabinet positions on Wednesday (Nov 13), stunning some allies and making clear that he is serious about reshaping — and in some cases testing — America's institutions. Trump's choice of congressman Matt Gaetz, 42, for US attorney general, America's top law enforcement officer, was a surprising pick. The former attorney has never worked in the Justice Department, or as a prosecutor, and was investigated by the Justice Department over sex trafficking allegations. His office said in 2023 that he had been told by prosecutors he would not face criminal charges. Trump tapped Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence. The former Democratic congresswoman-turned-Trump-ally has in the past spoken out against military intervention in the civil war in Syria under former President Barack Obama and implied that Russian President Vladimir Putin had valid grounds for invading Ukraine, America's ally.

Entire generation in Gaza would lose education if UNRWA collapses: UN

UNITED NATIONS — An entire generation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip would "be denied the right to education" if the United Nations Palestinian relief agency UNRWA collapses in the enclave under new Israeli legislation, the head of UNRWA warned on Wednesday (Nov 13). Israel's parliament passed a law last month that will ban UNRWA from operating in the country when it takes effect in late January. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said its implementation "will have catastrophic consequences." "In Gaza, dismantling UNRWA will collapse the United Nations humanitarian response, which relies heavily on the agency's infrastructure," he told a UN General Assembly committee. "Glaringly absent from discussions about Gaza without UNRWA, is education." "In the absence of a capable public administration or state, only UNRWA can deliver education to more than 660,000 girls and boys across Gaza. In the absence of UNRWA, an entire generation will be denied the right to education," he said, warning that this would sow "the seeds for marginalisation and extremism."

European powers pushing for resolution against Iran at IAEA, diplomats say

PARIS/VIENNA — European powers are pushing for a new resolution against Iran by the United Nations atomic watchdog's board next week to pressure Tehran over its poor co-operation, as the world awaits the return of US President-elect Donald Trump, diplomats say. Such resolutions risk further diplomatic tension with Iran. It has retaliated to previous ones and other criticism at the International Atomic Energy Agency's 35-nation Board of Governors by stepping up its nuclear activities and barring top IAEA inspectors, heightening Western concerns about its aims. The resolution would task the IAEA with issuing a so-called "comprehensive report" on Iran's nuclear activities in addition to its regular quarterly ones, which would describe in more detail and put further focus on problem areas like Iran's continued failure to explain uranium traces found at undeclared sites.

Israel wants freedom to strike Lebanon even after ceasefire, France says

PARIS — Israeli officials are insisting on maintaining a capacity to strike Lebanon at any moment as part of conditions to secure a ceasefire with Iran-backed Hezbollah, France's foreign minister said on Wednesday (Nov 13). Speaking to a parliamentary hearing after holding talks in Israel last week in Jerusalem, Jean-Noel Barrot said it was a condition increasingly voiced among Israeli officials. "Today we hear in Israel voices calling for it to keep a capacity to strike at any moment or even enter Lebanon, as is the case with its neighbour Syria," said Barrot, who held talks with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and new Defence Minister Israel Katz last week. "That is not compatible with the sovereignty of a strong country," Barrot said, referring to broader efforts to help strengthen Lebanon's governance. Several diplomats said that it would be all but impossible to get Hezbollah or Lebanon to accept any proposal that included this demand.

Parliament votes in favour of amended motion on PSP's call for hawker reforms

Parliament voted in favour of an amended version of a motion put forth by Progress Singapore Party (PSP) Non-Constituency MPs Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa on Wednesday (Nov 13) after a debate that lasted five-and-a-half hours. This motion called for the Government to "review its policies relating to hawkers and the management of hawker centres to provide better support for hawkers to sustain and grow Singapore hawker culture, so that Singaporeans can continue to enjoy good and affordable hawker food". During his speech, Leong highlighted that high operational costs, harsh working conditions, and the expectation to provide cheap food are pressing issues faced by hawkers here. The PSP secretary-general then proposed that social enterprise hawker centres be phased out as contracts expire, replacing them with centralised management under a new government agency called Hawker Singapore. This new agency would oversee the management of all hawker centres in Singapore and the promotion of hawker culture domestically and internationally, working together with other relevant agencies, he added.

'How is this a liveable condition?' Tenants leave home filled with mould and dirt, horrifying agent

A property agent was shocked to discover a leased home in a filthy condition, left behind by tenants who moved out several months earlier, according to a TikTok video uploaded by user HomesWithHaziq on Saturday (Nov 9). "For my future landlords, beware," Haziq wrote in the video description. Introducing the video, he also stated: "If you're planning to rent out your whole unit, watch this video first." According to Haziq, the home had been tenanted out for less than two years to a group of foreigners who had little interaction with one another, keeping to their own rooms. The location of the property was not disclosed, but Haziq shared with AsiaOne that it is located in the west. Starting with the living room, things appear to be clean at first glance - if a little cluttered - but Haziq soon points out in the video visible spots of black dirt hidden behind the couch. "The condition of the house will speak for itself," he added. The first toilet certainly proved his point - the toilet seat was yellowed, with the bottom of the bowl stained black.

Indonesian president says he will safeguard sovereignty in South China Sea

JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said he would "always safeguard our sovereignty" when asked about the issue of the South China Sea, adding partnerships are better than conflicts and that "we respect all powers". Prabowo's comments, made while he was in Washington on Wednesday (Nov 13), came after his foreign ministry stressed that Indonesia does not recognise China's claims over the South China Sea despite signing a maritime deal with Beijing last weekend. Beijing has long clashed with Southeast Asian nations over the South China Sea, which it claims almost in its entirety, based on a "nine-dash line" on its maps that cuts into the exclusive economic zones (EEZ) of several countries. "We respect all powers, but we will always safeguard our sovereignty. But I choose to always find possibilities of a partnership," said Prabowo, who has repeatedly said he will pursue a non-aligned foreign policy. "Partnerships are better than conflicts," he told reporters.

Jeep Forward Control

M678–679 Van/Ambulance.

Полное наименование фургона, которым пытаются упрекать УАЗ Буханку — 1964 Kaiser Jeep Forward Control M–679 FC–170. К тому времени УАЗ–450 с кузовом фургон серийно выпускался 6 лет!

1964 Kaiser Jeep Forward Control M–679 FC–170

Jeep Forward Control – 1955 год

База модели:
ГАЗ–450 – ГАЗ–69
Jeep Forward Control – Willys MB

Первый прототип:
УАЗ–450 – 1955 год
Jeep Forward Control – 1956 год

Серийное производство:
Jeep Forward Control – 1956 год
УАЗ–450 – 1958 год
Jeep Forward Control crew–cab / van – 1964

'Does anyone else have an overly clingy orange?': Proud Owners Of Adorable Orange Brain Cells Show Off Their Velcro Cats

What is personal space anyway? Personally, as the proud mother to a beautiful tuxedo boy and calico girl, I'm not too familiar with this concept, and I am totally okay with that. Cats are like humans in that they are each their own fully developed characters with unique personality traits and tendencies. However, there are some traits that tend to present themselves in many cats, maybe even most!

One such trait is being a velcro cat, ie an extremely clingy feline who adores their human caretakers and needs to be physically close to them at all times. Today we are featuring an adorable series of orange cats who are so clingy and close to their humans, that some humans might even suspect them of trying to steal brain cells to accommodate for a lack of their own. Go ahead and enjoy all of this wholesome, velcro goodness. Cheers!

'He came through my window and claimed the bed': Random Cat Shows up at Person’s House, Falls Asleep in His Bed, and Instantly Becomes a Purrmanent House Guest

We think that everyone knows at this point that it's the cats who choose the humans and not the other way around. It has been proven time and time again, story after story, that is has now become a simple fact. There's a whole genre of content based on this phenomenon, a type of story that people title "not my cat" to capture those moments when cats simply walk into our lives and choose to stay.

These cats may decide that you are now their adopted pawrents, or they may be a simple visitor in your home. Regardless, you have been chosen by them, and that means that you are now theirs. Which is exactly what happened in today's story. You, as the person here, will not know where the cat came from or what its purpose is until it decides to let you know about it. For the time being, you simply have a cat, and that's that.

'You didn't sign up to be a hotel': Free-spirit couple with 5 and 7-year-old kids sells their home to take "extended vacation," begs brother for help

If you suddenly showed up at your sibling's home and asked to live with them for 10 months, it would make things awkward, that's for certain. You can't just ask someone to live with them for that long without having a big discussion about what it would mean for you both. And this woman isn't just asking her brother to stay there alone… she wants to bring her entire family, including her two young children.

While we always want to be there for the family members we adore, living with someone is a whole other ball game. This guy has his own home that he's spent a decade paying off. Now suddenly, his younger sister is begging to move in with him because of her own ill-fated adventures. She was living the dream: she sold her family's home in order to travel full-time. While many of us dream of doing things like that, there's a reason most people can't. It's just too expensive to maintain. The sister found this out within just two months of her perma-vacation… but should her brother really be expected to house his sister just because she intentionally chose to give up her house? Check out the full story below and see if you agree with commenters telling this guy to avoid housing her and possibly even cut her off.

'Don't be THAT person!': 15+ public library stories where entitled Karens, parents, and kids ruined everyone else's experience

Going to one's local public library should be a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, as is the case with any public setting, one's experience can be profoundly affected by the actions and behavior of random strangers. You could be in a movie theater, a coffee shop, or the post office and find similar entitled behavior from Karens, parents, and kids that has the potential to ruin your day. Let's take a moment to assess the myriad of ways in which the same phenomenon can occur in public libraries.

First, there's the strange people who sit next to you despite there being plenty of space for them to sit elsewhere. Then, there's the mess a group of kids may leave at a communal table. And, of course, there is the junk food that fully grown adults refuse to clean up after they are finished. This is the kind of entitlement that makes picking up a book feel like a Sisyphean endeavor.

Keep scrolling below for this collection of mildly infuriating library moments. For more content like this, check out these frustrating movie theater fails.

'I'm not allowed to talk about turtles anymore': 20+ Employees who had HR step in for the silliest reasons

Doing human resources work isn't always serious. Sometimes, it can be very funny, as the people of the internet will tell you!

Though they're sometimes known as the company boogeyman, the human resources department is sometimes needed to step in and sort out employee relations. They have a broad range of job duties, from managing an office to hiring and firing to mediating employee disputes. This can result in some awkwardness at times. As these HR professionals can tell you, it can be very awkward to try and figure out which employee is the one stinking up the office with their BO or talking to an employee about wearing appropriate office attire.

Still, these HR professionals managed to make the best out of their situations. U/sgy0003 asked people to share the "most ridiculous/hilarious complaints you ever received," and more than 2,700 people replied with their funniest tales. One person had to deal with an executive assistant who claimed her high heels prevented her from walking to the copier. Another got in trouble for their drawing of a stingray! 16-year-old abandoned on birthday weekend to study for school while parents take 13-year-old brother on vacation: 'It wasn't right of her parents to exclude her'

Focusing on your kids' schooling and future is important, but it's easy to lose sight of the little things and moments along the way that are also important. Failing to nurture their unique skills and interests may cost them the chance to do something that they feel is fulfilling and rewarding and what they deem to be the success of their own lives. Also, pushing them too hard to be successful may be counterproductive and drive them into burnout, which takes years to recover from. Plus, we've spent the last 20 years pushing our kids into STEM degrees with a singular focus on success, and now some fields are so oversaturated it's impossible for new graduates to get jobs in the fields they have studied anyway without the proper networking and connections.

Besides, there's nothing like accidentally giving your kid a traumatic memory on their birthday that they're going to remember for the rest of their life. And this uncle drew the ire of his sister and brother-in-law when he pointed out to his 16-year-old niece that he didn't agree at all with her parent's decision to abandon her on her birthday.
