Brands including Godrej, Panasonic, Samsung are now extending video consultations and helplines to serve a fraction of the complaints that can be solved over guided videos or calls. The brands are reaching out to customers through social media or through remote assist helplines.

The company has cut prices anywhere from Rs 2,000 on the smaller screen televisions going up to Rs two lakh on a flagship 85-inch model apart from rolling out long tenure no-cost EMI schemes and bundling offers. India, the world’s largest diamond polishing hub that employs over one million people, is likely to see a staggering 50% job loss. Diamond merchants are struggling to manage their inventories or pay salaries to their craftsmen. Knock-on effects are being felt by one million more workers employed in the gems and jewellery industry.

Once markets are reopened, the industry would also be braving a changing consumer spending behavior and capacity. There could be a major lag before sales begin to pick up. Fashion as a commodity is also perishable. It may be very difficult to sell the loaded inventories in warehouses, and heavy discounts would not be an attractive option at a time of slim profit margins.

It is a tough time for apparel retailers who are looking at zero offline revenues and a steep drop in online sales. The latest dress or the pair of khakis may not be able to save them.

"We have to accept coronavirus as part of life. If we don't open factories, there will be economic crisis," said Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association vice president Mohammad Hatem.

The death marks the fourth confirmed COVID-19-linked death of an Amazon worker, following deaths in Hawthorne, California; Tracy, California and the death of a Staten Island, New York, worker who was stationed at the JFK8 fulfillment centre.

Since hand sanitisers have been declared as essential commodity under the Essential Commodities Act, action can be taken against dealers involved in hoarding and black-marketing of the product. The retailer/ manufacturer/ trader overcharging a consumer can be prosecuted under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, and Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011, the government said in a statement.

The industry will also meet drug controllers to seek and fast-track issuance of required licences and nods. Ethyl alcohol, a key raw material used in a distillery, is also a key ingredient for hand sanitisers. This move comes as the centre has requested state governments to rope in distilleries to make hand sanitisers for the shutdown period till March 31 due to the pandemic.

Sanitisers, available in two sizes 50 ml and 500 ml, are marked at a price of Rs. 25 and Rs. 250 respectively, the company said. In addition to pharmacies, general stores, and VLCC wellness centers, customers can also buy VLCC hand sanitisers from e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Nykaa.

“About 45 distilleries and 564 other manufacturers have been granted permission to produce hand sanitisers. More than 55 distilleries are likely to be given permission in one or two days and many more are being motivated to produce sanitisers in this scenario,” consumer affairs ministry said in a release.

Kylie and Kris Jenner have teamed up with cosmetics company Coty to mass produce the hand sanitisers.

While most brick-and-mortar pharmacies continue to function amid the countrywide lockdown to contain the pandemic, many consumers have switched to buying medicines online for fear of getting infected by the novel coronavirus, industry insiders said.

The Mysuru-headquartered brand is using its fragrance stock to make ayurvedic hand sanitisers ever since its product portfolio comprising incense sticks, prayer and wellness products came under the non-essential category.

Magician and animal trainer Roy Horn, of the legendary Las Vegas duo Siegfied and Roy, died Friday from complications related to COVID-19. Horn tested positive last week. He was 75. "The world has lost one of the greats of magic, but I have lost my best friend," Siegfried Fischbacher said of his partner in a statement. President Trump wants states to begin relaxing stay-at-home orders and reopen businesses after the spread of the coronavirus pummeled the global economy and killed millions of jobs. The White House coronavirus task force released guidelines on April 16 to encourage state governors to adopt a phased approach to lifting restrictions across the country. Some states have moved ahead without meeting the criteria . The task force rejected a set of additional detailed draft recommendations for schools, restaurants, churches and mass transit systems from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that it considered " overly prescriptive ." Very briefly, at the end of 2019 and the start of 2020, there were slightly more women on American nonfarm payrolls than men. That's no longer true. The historically disastrous April jobs report shows that the brunt of job losses fell on women. Women now account for around just under half — 49% — of American workers, and they accounted for 55% of the increase in job losses last month. One way of looking at why that matters that is to look at the gap that opened up between women's and men's unemployment last month. A vehicle produced in Belvidere has topped a new list of cars with the most American content. Fiat Chrysler ’s Jeep Cherokee came in at number one on the list created by Cars.com . The website looked at which cars were manufactured in America, had the most American parts, and support the most American factory jobs. Four of the top ten cars on the list are made by foreign-based companies. But Cars.com’s executive director, Joe Wiesenfelder, said, these days, all manufacturers are global. “And even what you consider an American brand might import vehicles from across the border," he said.
